DSS...

@mommylawyer i have been thinking of a 3 stone ring for SO LONG. I just love my ACA’s so much and I’m not sure they would work with my triple X GIA. Not the best pic but for visual. Here’s my ER with my studs. EF03FC0B-10A6-421C-AFF6-36A353EDAC30.jpeg

Poor lighting and mani but here’s another picture so you get an idea of the GIA Triple X with my ACA’s. Maybe a 3 stone will cure my DSS for some time...751EEFBF-E0ED-40B3-B6DC-E0C0C0216F7B.jpeg

That looks beautiful to me! Really nice finger coverage. My three-stone upgrade cured my DSS for about a decade and my husband was happy that I kept my original (center) diamond. It's the ring in my avatar, BTW.

I am biased but vote for the three stone! It looks beautiful on you and it will definitely cure dss for a bit at least.

Thank you! I think it will cure DSS for a bit too. OMG there are so many settings and I don’t know how I would want it to look overall. It’s not an anniversary ring. It’s engagement ring. But I want the finger coverage. Decisions...thankfully I have time and it’s not as expensive as a new stone or is it since I have to pay someone to make it for me on top of the new setting? Any thoughts would be appreciated as I love your 3 stone ring.

Thank you @RunningwithScissors!
You have impeccable taste so that means a lot. You think it looks balanced with the side stones? Plus the center is not an ideal cut stone.

You will notice the difference but I say go for the size you ultimately want even if that means saving up a bit more for a while. Get the size you want for complete satisfaction.

I am a big size ho and finally I am completely satiated re the size of my OEC. Of course that is with the halo. Without the halo might be a different story. But we shall see. What is interesting is the halo doesn't bring out any tint in my GIA J OEC. And I am color sensitive.

Anyway I am a big believer in getting what you want and not settling as long as you can afford it. And if that means waiting for a while I think it is worth it. Only you know though if it is worth it for you. Good luck.

This is simply gorgeous. Well proportioned and very pleasing to the eye. Eye catching and elegant. And I would guess a good solution for DSS.

@missy your OEC is why I fell in love with older cuts! It’s so beautiful. I’m not a huge fan of halos, but there’s something so special and unique about yours. It just compliments your gorgeous stone to perfection.

Wow, the 3 stone looks great! Really good finger coverage, and looks lovely on you.

Another vote for a 3 stone here! I had the same dilemma a few years back, @diamondsR4eVR.

DSS set in for me after a couple of years (I think) and my partner was resolute in not wanting to change my center stone. So the solution was to change setting and make it into a proper 3 stone ring. I’m pleased to say I‘m very happy with my ring. It gives me the finger coverage I crave and got to keep a center stone that holds special meaning to both of us. So I say go for the 3 stone and who knows, maybe your husband will be open to a bigger stone (or a different ring altogether) for a milestone anniversary or birthday:D.

Good luck with your exciting new project! And please keep us posted with any update.

Thank you @RunningwithScissors!

I think the balance is lovely. I like large sides like those, it gives a "wall of bling" look. I don't like when the side stones are tiny next to the center stone. Everybody is different.

But the important question is do YOU like the look of them together?

That’s exactly what I want, “a wall of bling.” I adore solitaires, but I miss having some presence so I think this is the best case for me now. Plus I told my fiancé and showed him the pictures I posted above and he really liked the look. I know if I completely changed the stone he wouldn’t love that idea. So this way I keep him happy but also make myself happy. As I said, I love solitaires for their classic timeless look and maybe one day I’ll have one again, but with a bigger center stone.

I think it’s a big difference! I have a 1.02 ct on ring size 6.25 (top in pic) and tried on a 1.33 to see if it would be worth exchanging, as I just got the 1 ct a week ago. I tried the larger one at Costco, although I’ll be getting my diamond exchanged with James Allen.

Oh this is a great visual! Ty!
When are you upgrading?

Lol I’m not a halo person but I have thought of two options by keeping current ER:

1) a tiny delicate halo like picture below 492D4D84-BA1B-4F89-B7CC-74AA726BD894.jpeg

2) 3 stone. I have beautiful ACA’s that I wear everyday that I can turn into a 3 stone for more finger coverage.

I love those two options!! If you like 1.5 and he doesn’t maybe you could finagle a 1.45? Or 1.4?
I really wanted a 1.5 min 2 ct max and the 1.4 always felt like it could be bigger. He could have gone bigger, he just went with better color and clarity bc he didn’t think size mattered that much... to some it really doesn’t but to some - that little bit of size makes all the difference lol. I’d say compromise on 1.4 with that sweet halo or side stones and you will feel really satiated in your choice vs. feeling like you conceded to what he wanted for you/just to go against your huge last e-ring. My husband was a little salty when I upgraded but I’m the one who has to wear it! Trust your gut!

Haha a girl after my own heart. The issue is I would have to save for awhile to upgrade. I don’t want to go thru the same jeweler and will need to start from scratch. Especially since I would like ideal or as close to ideal as possible this time around. Trust me 1.30 to 1.40 sounds amazing to me.

However, if I decide to do a 3 stone ring there’s light at the end of the tunnel and can see myself taking on this fun project probably in the summer. I have the 3 stones already which is wear the bulk of the cost lies. I just need to pay for setting and find someone to do it for me. I guess that could be expensive too tho...

Thank you! I’d love to see your ring.

Sure thing, @diamondsR4eVR! Here‘s a before and after:

And here’s my former 3 stone OECs along side my EC ring.

As you can see, I’m extremely biased when it comes to 3 stone ring setting. I used to own solitaire rings and went so far as sporting a 4.2 ct antique cushion cut. Sadly, even that couldn‘t cure my DSS. So I switched gears and eventually ended up with a 3 stone ring. I found the 3 stone setting the most practical solution to cure DSS, and extremely versatile as it can be done with any shape stone, diamond or colored. I still hope to own another solitaire though. However, unless it’s 5 ct +, I’m afraid it ain’t gonna happen anytime soon, if not never ever. Edit to add: I just realized my last statement may sound a tad “whiny” or “bratty”...trying to find the right word here- “capricious” even..but what I’m trying to say is- I don’t own many pieces so I tend to go for size. I suppose like Missy, I’m a “size whore”:lol:. Sorry, now I’m just rambling...

ETA: pls forgive the pic size..can’t seem to minimize them. Ok, trying again to adjust pic size but to no avail. Sorry ladies!!

I love these proportions. I’m a huge wall of bling fan. I would do both consecutively. Go bigger in center. Then add these sides. Go for it!!

I love your 3 stone plus with an emerald cut center?!! Swoon! I like your wedding bands too.

Thank you! I will probably go bigger down the road but I would need more bling funds first. At least for now I already have the 3 stones needed to satisfy me for “some time.”

Thank you so much, @LLJsmom and @diamondsR4eVR! Your comments are much appreciated=)2

Excited for you, diamonds! Can’t wait to see your completed 3 stone!

I love how you said your 3 stone will satisfy you for “some time” bc that’s exactly how I feel. What did you do with your previous side stones? Are they traps?

I still can’t get over your 3 stone EC ring. I come in here just to look at it. Did you give the stats? I’d love to know. Sorry if you did. I hope you smile every time you look down at your hand.

Yekutiel at IDJ is AMAZING, he took the setting from my profile pic with a 1.4 stone and put a bigger basket with eagle claw prongs for a 2.7. His work is flawless, no one can tell it’s not the original stone but they all do double takes and grab my hand to look at it up close now. I’d hammer out what design I like the most and send it to a few vendors that come highly recommended here on PS to get quotes. I think IDJ should be pretty competitive and for the quality of their work, it’s my go to. I’m so excited for you!!!
