Hiya Ladies and Gents!
I came across this fabulous site purely by accident doing some research surrounding the possibility of getting my ring reset later this year. You all seem so ‘in the know’ and really helpful to each other, offering great advice! So here I am ….. Breaking my post virginity!
Sooo I’m in England, English through and through. We don’t really do ‘big rings’ here (unless you’re one of the lucky super rich)… It seems that the concept of an Engagement Ring ‘upgrade’ is rare. (Correct me if there are any Brits who think differently.) I don’t see a lot of ‘fancy’ rings in the sense of halos, ornate settings etc. I think we shy away from “flashy” even if it’s seemingly tastefully done … how very English of us! I actually know women who have been proposed too and asked their partner for a smaller stone so they didn’t appear “too showy”.
A lot of my friends would be horrified that I was considering altering my ring. “IT’S WHAT HE PICKED OUT FOR YOU … HE SPENT TIME AND EFFORT CHOSING IT WITH LOVE AND THOUTFULLNESS …. AND YOU WANT TO CHANGE IT?!!” I hear them cry. I understand I don’t have to explain myself to them, but their words do tend to work themselves in to my mind. So don’t get me wrong I LOVE MY RING… it’s a simple and elegant 1ct princess solitaire with pave on the shank and was just what I wanted at the time. It was and still is the physical symbol of the fact that he wanted to spend his life with me forever … I am HIS one. We became engaged in July 2012 and it was magical. We had a beautiful wedding in May 2014 and now here we are.
As with all things there’s always changing fashions and ideas and at times these peak our interest. In a nutshell I AM OBSESSED WITH HALOS … double OR single, I’m just smitten! I still love my princess cut but I’m now more fond of softer more ‘gown up’ edges, and I won’t lie I would like my stone to have a bit more impact, have more finger coverage; and put rather crassly LOOK BIGGER. Halos are a perfect way to achieve this! I would never ever change my stone; if I did I feel I would lose the entire essence of what my Husband had picked for me. I just simply wish to enhance what I already have!
At the end of the year hubby and I are taking a month trip to Australia, finishing off with four night stay in Dubai on the way back! Dubai is THE place to look for diamonds and everything sparkly. MEGA deals to be had. It’s possible to get a reset done overnight there (CADS etc. during the day time hours included!) Almost like a drive thru reset! Seemingly anything is possible. Money is no object in Dubai, its home to the super rich and nothing can ever have too much bling or wow factor. There are gold plated cars driving around for crying out loud! I’ve no reason to think that any jewellers in the main shopping districts (gold and Diamond Park for example) are in the ‘Botching Business’ …. Competition is fierce due to the sheer volume or diamond and jewellery stores, so only the best will cut it if the stores want to survive.
So my question is … has anyone had any experience with jewellers in Dubai, whether personally or through association? What was your experience like?
What are your thoughts on this Dubai idea?
