Earrings made into a ring?

My project is having two .70 diamonds put into stud earrings. Down the road if I get tired of not seeing them while I'm wearing them, can they be put into a ring, like Stuller peg-heads? Are some stud settings sturdier than others? My jeweler turns a baleful eye on me when I ask this sort of thing.

A lot of earring prong settings are not made sturdy enough to be as durable as prong settings made for use in rings. Your jeweler may be right in hoping you'll give him the freedom to remount them properly.
