Hey ladies,

Ok, let me preface this post by saying that I realize I''m being a bit neurotic.

I''m shopping for a pair of diamond earrings to match the pendant I wear every day. The pendant is 1/3 ct bezel set solitaire in white gold. (photo below)

I''m looking for a pair of lever back drop earrings, also bezel set in white gold. The diamonds will be pretty small (1/3 ctw) so a larger bezel would make them look more substantial & match my pendant better.

I think I''ve narrowed it down to two options and would love your opinions. I''m not sure if I should be looking to match the pendant as closely as possible, or if this doesn''t matter. I''m considering wearing this set to my wedding (I''d like to keep the jewelry simple, especially if I wind up wearing a tiara

) so they''d be photographed together.

Here are my top choices:

#1: double bezel earring on leverback (in white gold)

Or, I could have the vendor try to match my pendant exactly.

Which do you prefer? Thanks for your help!

#2: It''d probably look something like this, but on a lever back

Hey ladies,

I could have the vendor try to match my pendant exactly.

Who was the vendor? Would it be lots of $$ and effort to have it matched exactly?
I think in the long run you might be best off having your earrings match your pendant.
The ones you''ve shown do look very similar.

Scintillating...

Hello BrightSpot,

I agree that going back to the vendor of your pendant is likely the best bet. Even if it is a bit more time consuming and expensive, I think the result will be worth it, especially since a slight difference seems to bother you. I really think it would be money and time well spent because this is a style of earring that you could definitely wear a lot (particularly because you wear the pendant everyday). BTW I love the length of the chain --- it sits just perfectly in the hollow of your neck --- classic and stunning!!!

I really like the first style Brightspot. I like the look of it. I am not took fond of thick bezel cause I think they take away from the stone. So my pick is #1.

I too prefer the first set of earrings. I think that it closely matches the look of your pendant (likely anyone who sees them will think it was all a set) but doesn''t have so much metal surrounding the stone. I know your pendant is more like the bottom picture, but on your ears it would be nice for the stone sparkle to stand out a bit more.

At first glance, I didn''t see a difference btwn the first set of earrings (on the leverback) and the pendant on your necklace. I think they''re a close enough match to wear those earrings without the trouble and expense of getting custom-made ones.

I really love that pendant and I''m considering getting it for my BMs. However, I know I cannot afford a diamond in there, so I might get saphhires. Not sure how that will look...any opinions from the more gem-savvy people??

Not to hijack but are you kidding! Sapphires will look fab in that setting. Would you want blue or another color? Visit the color gem board for more help.

About the earrings I like the first pair too. I personally like when sets go together but don''t PERFECTLY match. I am just not a matchy matchy person.

Sorry BrightSpot--temporarily hijacking...sorry!!

Tacori--whew! I''m so glad to hear that! I hadn''t even thought about sapphire color, I was thinking about a gem I could afford that would look nice but now you got my mind racing. Oh the possibilities!

Oh there''s a whole board on colored stones--YAY! (I only have Brides World Wide bookmarked and I never really paid attention to the other boards--I feel like a whole new world has opened up ....)

What are your wedding colors? I would get a gem that matches that.

Hey ladies! Thanks so much for your thoughts on the earrings. (and sorry for taking so long to update my thread!)

Well, I went with earring #1. They just came in & I''m really pleased with how they look. I think the setting is very pretty & coordinates really nicely with my pendant. The setting also makes the stones look much bigger than expected. (gotta love the bezel!)

But here''s the thing--they''re really heavy. I hadn''t even considered the earring weight when I ordered them, but I guess all that gold that makes the stones look so big also make the earrings so heavy. Doh!

Now I don''t know what to do, though. I really love the look of them, but I''m afraid they''ll be painful to wear over time. I also don''t want to stretch out my piercings (one is already a bit stretched out).

I really like the look of the drop in an earring better than a stud on me and I like the bezel, but maybe the bezel setting & the lever back don''t go well together? I already have a small pair of diamond studs set in a 4-prong yellow gold setting so I was hoping these new earrings would add variety to my collection.

Do you think there''s a way to make these earrings more bearable/wearable or should I trade them in for lever back earrings in a lighter (maybe non-bezel?) setting or go for bezel set studs?

I''m so disappointed...

Thanks for your help.

They are very pretty, what a shame they are heavy. When you wear them are you constantly aware of them?? If so I would return or exchange them for something that won''t bother you. Tough choice but if they bug ya now, they will bug you later.

Thanks, kaleigh. They do kind of bother me now, but I''m not sure if I might just get used to wearing heavier earrings or if they''d always bug me. Maybe I''ll wear them for a few days before I decide? (and my return policy expires...heh!) What a pain!

Hi BrightSpot, I''m sorry that the earrings were not all that you had hoped for. I have seen this product before called Lobe Wonder and it may help you. I don''t know if I would choose this option though, it may be a big pain in the butt to have to apply these things every day so you can wear earrings. I am also not 100% sure they may work with lever backs.

It may help if you can find a similar setting as the heavy one, but with the back "hollowed" out, so you see the concurve curve of gold surrounding the bezel from the front, but at the back it is convex?? That would cut the weight.

I wish you well,

Bridget

Bridget, thanks for your advice! Those lobe wonders are great! I was laughing to myself just this morning that surely a product existed that could reinforce my ears so I could still wear my earrings (like a gummed reinforcement for hole-punched paper) and sure enough, it does! I think you''re right that it would be annoying to have to use something like this every day. I get dressed in the dark, for cryin out loud!

I just looked at the back of my earrings & the construction seems similar to what you describe (convex in the back, not solid) and they''re still heavy. Perhaps I should get the same earrings in the bezel-set stud variety? (argh...too bad I paid $50 to have them converted to lever backs!
