Emerald Advice

Hey all,

I'm looking to add an emerald to my collection.

Just wanted your advice on these 2 from earth treasury.

1.29ct (left)
one small feather but overall cleaner

vs

1.48ct (right)
Lighter - bluer
More inclusions (not eye visible) + glow

I like the colour of the 1.29ct better (I think) but the shape of the 1.48ct one more.

Does the origin matter much for emeralds?

What do you think? Which one would you go for? Or are there better options out there?

I like the lighter green one better. Neither of these appear particularly glowy, but the seccond has a little more glow than the first (maybe that is just me, tbh I would want an even stronger glow). Have you compared against emerald embassy, and yvonne raley -- she can source really nice ones?

Also with emeralds you really have to ask a lot of questions about the type and degree of treatment. It is rare for them to be untreated (and many forms of treatment are unstable). In extreme cases they have a lot of oil (which can dry up over time causing the stone to get cloudy), and this oil can contain green dye (so the colour you are seeing will also fade). I don't think that will ever be a problem with earths treasury -- but I guess I am trying to say treatment is vital (degree and type).

Just read your post properly -- yes origin factors into the price a lot, but I wouldn't bother buying for that. And I would look arround. It never hurts to have more options.
