Hello, I'm looking for a matching pair of emeralds for stud halo earrings I'd like to get my wife for her birthday. I'm thinking 1 - 1.5 ct for the pair. Budget is around $2500. I've done some research, but I still feel I know next to nothing about finding a good pair. I've done a lot of browse on sites that were recommended here as well as other places. I couldn't find any info about this vendor, but I really like this pair: https://www.gemrockauctions.com/auctions/111-ct-matching-emerald-pair-55mm-round-brilliant-602208

I was hoping some more knowledgeable people than myself could tell me what they think of these. Is the price fair? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I'm not a frequent emerald buyer, and I don't know if you have a preference for cut. The pair you linked looks nice, but it is Zambian material and seems to be on the lighter side for color.

As a comparison, here is another matching pair, in a step cut and similar color/quality, but of Colombian origin. The spread is a little less (4.7mm instead of 5.5mm), but the vendor is very trusted by PS and there is less risk, plus the price is less than half of what the pair on Gemrock Auctions costs. The vendor has a range of pretty settings for the gems at https://www.cecileraleydesigns.com/pages/custom-earring-designs and has reasonable prices for custom settings, too.

Yvonne is in Tucson for the gem show. You could ask her if she has anything already in the size you want, or if she can pick some up for you. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed in what she gets.

Thank you for the advice everyone! I'll reach out to these vendors and see what they've got.

I think color is the game in small emeralds, not much brilliancy, but you want the gems to shout GREEN even in small sizes and from far away, brilliancy will cost a lot extra unless you are OK with full-throttle treatment. many zambian emeralds turn 'invisible' under half a carat.
