What is your opinion on setting emeralds? They are glowy, not sparkly like sapphires. Does the sparkliness of diamond accents bring out the color, or make them look flat? I’d love to see the settings you’ve come up with! Do show!

Here’s the one I’m trying figure out how to set. It’s a bluish green color, 1.4 cts, 7.3 x 6.3 mm. I keep thinking it needs a rather simple gold setting, but I’m not sure because almost all my gemstone ring settings have some diamond sprinkles.

I am always of the view that most stones need diamond sprinkles! Diamonds just pull the look of a ring together and the whiteness of diamonds will draw even more attention to your gorgeous emerald.

Your stone looks sublime by the way!!! I am jealous!

Personally I always feel like only a superb large sized asscher cut can get away without diamonds.

Thank you, melloyellowgirl! I like your your attitude! :D

I hadn’t thought about Asschers that way, but it makes sense. Thank you for the compliments!

I have emeralds set both ways. The one with diamonds I usually reserve for evenings out and the one in high carat gold goes everywhere. It's really a personal decision, but diamonds are so much fun...

Thanks, Suzanne2! I like the idea of having different levels of blinginess for different occasions. Do you have pics of your settings to share?

And a blurry shot of my oval emerald with diamonds. I love both of these rings.

Sorry, these pictures are HUGE!

What is the red stone?

I love the colour of the sapphire.

What is the red stone?

I love the colour of the sapphire.

I'm still figuring out how to use the quote function here. Thanks for admiring my sapphire. I bought it about 20 years ago and sadly didn't treat it very well. It has a few dings from being worn everyday for at least 7 years...

The red stone? I should start a "what is this stone?" thread for that one. I bought it at a shop that didn't know either. My most recent guess is glass or citrine. I thought it was zircon, but my clumsy RI measurement came out to 1.55. Any ideas?

So I'm not thread-jacking here, I like emeralds set both ways. Sparkly white diamonds or high carat gold, the higher the carat gold the better!

Oooh, so pretty! Thank you for sharing the settings. I really do love the emeralds set both ways. The high carat gold brings out the color beautifully! I didn’t expect it to flatter the green so well.

I've never seen any diamonds that made a CS look bad. :Up_to_something2:

Thank you, Chrono! I like the way you think!

ooh, I love the rose gold filigree setting on that emerald!
I like them both ways. A plus to having diamonds on the sides, is that emeralds are softer stones and setting them in a protective setting and/or diamonds on the side protects the center stone.

I love a classic three stone ring with diamond side stones. For example a large emerald cut emerald flanked by two emerald cut diamonds is my idea of perfection. If I could have two gorgeous emeralds then I would set the other (round or cushion cut) in a high carat yellow gold etched/florentined (sp?) bezel setting. Santa are you getting this all down?

I love your pretty ring setting, ringo! And oooh, the colors on both those emeralds!

Partgypsy, that’s a good idea about the diamonds being protective. I’m afraid of knocking the emerald and breaking it. I’ve never had one.

Lambskin, I do hope Santa is getting all this down! :wavey:

I can attest to this! I have a double halo around my little emerald and although I only wear it now and then sometimes your arm just swings the wrong way! Fortunately the diamonds get hit not the emerald!
