Has anyone ever heard of getting an engagement necklace.... instead of a ring?

I'm really thinking about this. My neck is a much better feature of mine than my hands. I'm 50 years old, and it shows more on my digits than my neck. I don't get manicures and even if I did, I'm just kind of rough on rings. Great rings are so expensive, too! The whole ring selction process seems stressful to me.

I found the most beeeaaauuutiful necklace of bezel set diamonds (which I will photograph) that I think would prefer to a ring.

Would that be totally bizarre?

It''s not bizarre at all if it''s what would make you happy. A ring is nothing more than a SYMBOL of commitment-- it is not the commitment and if it were lost one would be no less engaged. So if you''d rather have something else more meaningful as a symbol of your commitment to one another, by all means get a necklace!

The only down side to a necklace is that people will not know it is your engagement necklace unless you point it out, but then again if it is very pretty they will probably comment on it often enough that you''ll get the story out :)

Bottom line: do what makes you happy!

Not bizarre at all!! Many women get engaged without rings. Many married women (and even more men) don''t even wear wedding bands. It''s all about what makes you happy!!

I say go for it!! I have heard of engagement necklaces as well as bracelets. If that''s what you like, then do it. I love bezel set! Sounds gorgeous.

Thanks... the more I think about it, the more I think it''s a good idea.

Now I can''t wait to get a picture of that necklace! It''s at an antique store here in L.A.

I also say go for it!
If you go through the "Show me the Ring" thread you''ll see lots of ladies who recieved necklaces, earings and braclets as alternatives to engagment rings.. not everyone is a ring wearer!

Go for it and take lots of pictures!

Nope, not bizarre at all! Sounds like a wonderful idea. I love bezel set, too

I say go for it!!!!

Oh yeah! I''m okay with the 50 thing... I just really think my neck is a better place for diamonds than my hands! It held up rather well - if I do say so, myself.

For you, I''d say that 50 is the new 30! You look great! I have to agree, a diamond necklace is going to look awesome.

For myself, even with my knuckles getting all knobby from arthritis, I plan to keep on wearing my diamond rings. I love looking at my sparklies.

LOL Fly! Thank you.

Believe me.... I wouldn''t say no to a ring, or rings - or bracelets. I''d wear them, too!

Its very chic! If it make you happy go for it! Carrie wore an e-ring on a chain on Sex an the City!!!

You''re not fifty years old! Liar!

(but a remarkably gorgeous one!!)

What?!?! No way are you 50, you don''t even look 30.
I think a girl I wnet to school with got engagement earrings and a very simple but pretty wedding style band with a tiny diamond (maybe 2 or 3 pts) to wear on her ring finger to show she is "taken". I don''t know the whole story, but I did notice her wearing the untraditional engagement ring with some blingy diamond studs. I could be mistaken and the earrings could be unrelated to her engagement, though. I say if it makes you happy go for it. The only downside is that people wouldn''t immediately know you were engaged, but that might not matter to you. (Also, you don''t get to enjoy looking at a necklace as much as a ring while wearing it.)

Holy Cr$#, you can not be 50. You look freaken awesome..I thought only celebritys could look the way they do at 50. Let''s forget about your necklace....for right now....what''s your secret....what do you do?......creams...concoctions.....potions.....????what is your secret? If I looked that good at 50 I''d want an engagement necklace too, so that everyone could see how great I look...

I cleanse my face with alcohol and smoke cigarettes... eat a lot of sugar and never drink water. Really. If there''s any trick, I think it''s just remaining skinny, immature, unmarried and childless. You gotta know there are definite downsides to that kind of life, though! It can''t last forever... but I''ll push it as long as I can.

And thank you..... very much.

HOT! I love, love, love traditional....

My guy has those birdies on his chest!

I love the idea of a necklace instead of a ring! I don''t normally wear a lot of rings, so I have thought of getting a nice chain to keep mine on instead of wearing it regularly.

Also, you ladies have some gorgeous ink! I have a Celtic cross on my left arm and some Celtic knot-style flowers on my ankles. I''ve got several more pieces planned, though.

Thanks! I'm a big traditional fan. If I didn't have to work, I'd get a chest piece with all trad stuff. I've been imagining it for a while now. I just have to wait until I either quit working (ha!) or find a job that's cool with its employees having (very) visible tattoos. I'm in public relations, so I have the feeling said job might not exist. But I'm still searching!

Great tattoos, Tuesday! Love them.

Here's the BF's tattoo. It's on his arm. It was done by the same artist, and is a series of paintings done by Scott Sinclair, who does the liner notes artwork for the band Hot Water Music.

Wow! I would never put you down for 50-I would have said that you were in your twenties!!

I think and engagement necklace is a great idea. I''d love to see a pic of it
