FI and I are meeting with a photographer next week to discuss engagement photos. We want to do the shoot sometime in March. I've been itching to make a drastic change to my hair. Right now its very plain-- mostly one length to my mid-back with a side part. I wanted to do a shoulder length bob with side swept bangs a la Nicole Ritchie. For me the bangs would be a huge deal.

I'm a little worried about experimenting with my hair because of the photo shoot. I don't want to "not look like myself" in the pics. On the other hand, I want to do the haircut asap and the shoot would be in March. Maybe this is enough time for me to get used to the new look. What do you think? My hair is driving me nuts and I need to do something either way.

If you don''t like your hair now, then why would you like it in your pictures? Bangs can always be pulled back, anyways.

I say go for it--the haircut you''re describing sounds great. I wish I could pull off a bob, but my cheeks are too darn big!

DO IT!! but make sure you try it first (ie try on a wig in the shape/length you want to get a general idea of what it'll look like).

I have never dyed my hair before, but I really had disliked the colour lately, and had wanted to dye it darker for a few years. So I dyed it from my original mousy blonde to really dark brown the day before my engagement photos! It turned out beautiful and my pictures were so great! (which reminds me that I should post them here soon). I don't regret it for one second. I second what basil said, if you don't like your hair now you'll always wish you had changed it.

That bob sounds fantastic!

Personally, before I would make a drastic change in my hair length, I would have to ask myself whether I wanted a wedding hairstyle the required long hair or whether a shorter wedding hairstyle was what I wanted. If I didn''t care whether my hair was long or not for my wedding, I''d lop off my hair into the hairstyle I''d been lusting after.

I got a semi-drastic hair cut about 2 weeks before I my husband proposed to me. I was super happy with my hair, but then once wedding planning started, I wished I had not cut quite so much off the length because I wanted my hair long for the wedding. Luckily, my hair grows super fast, and it ended up being more than long enough by the time we got married. But, knowing how you want your hair for the wedding is something to consider. If you don''t think the length will matter, then I say go for it.

Your hair sounds like it is very long (mid back, right), how about getting it cut to just below your shoulders and add some long layers. Though not as drastic as a super cute bob, doing this will give you a change. The bonus is, you can always have your hair cut into a bob if you want that down the road.

I have had every kind of bangs/not bangs you can think of and hair lengths from my chin to my butt and everywhere in between. The style you described was definitely my least favorite. It looks good, but if you are fairly active, it is a real pain. The bangs are long enough to get in your face but not long enough to tie back and the hair is constantly in your face and either doesn''t look good pulled back or simply won''t stay. If this isn''t a problem then it is a great look, but for hiking, dancing me it was the worst. Just some thoughts.
