engagement ring help for a pink sapphire

my best friend is madly in love with this ring we found in a google search, and i''ve been kind of dropping hints to her boyfriend on her behalf because we''re mischievous plotting little weasels.

she loves pink stones, he doesn''t have the budget to buy a pink diamond, she had a fit over the setting, etc (she literally burst into tears when she saw the pics of this ring!). however, i know NOTHING about sapphires as far as their durability, specs, etc, so i really don''t know if this ring is a good one or just a pretty pic on the web and a starting point so he knows what style to look for but to look for another kind of stone or whatever. any info that any of you could give me to pass along to him would be greatly appreciated!! thanks so much!

The setting looks very ornate and pretty, I can see why she loved it right away. The pink sapphire is also acceptable. A medium light pink is fine although the saturation is light and the grayish undertone makes it look a bit darker. The dusting internal to the stone probably cannot be seen by the naked eye and so may be called eye clean although if magnified, you might see them. All in all, I think it would make an excellent e-ring. Sapphires are also very hardy so durability is not an issue.

great, thanks for the info! if he were shopping for diamonds, i could help him out somewhat, but i''m clueless on gemstones! on a completely random note, you helped my FI pick my ring almost a year ago, so thanks for that, too, haha!

are you kidding me? we got engaged in august, and i still giggle like an idiot every time i see the pretty rainbow refractions all over the dashboard when the sun hits my ring! i lurve it!

It''s a very pretty ring. I like it with the exception of the prongs, they look clunky to me. I''d prefer to see more dainty prongs myself.

I love that website and that ring - so many of the rings on there are beautiful and so romantic! That is a gorgeous ring and it would be a liovely engagement ring! yay for your friend!

i have to give the boy credit, too, though--he''s willing to take a bit of guidance even though he knows we were plotting (my bff isn''t good at discreet, haha).
