Evaluating jadeite (feicui)

Yes, there is sun green which isn’t so much glowy as it is bright and arresting.

Ooo I wish there were more jadeite shops in Sydney. I'd go running to one to ask them to show me a sun green piece!

Yes I think prices are higher in the US, Europe, and Australia, and the knowledge of jadeite is not as deep as that for of say, diamonds. That makes it possible for vendors to sell mediocre or low quality pieces for prices that are not low;
Speaking of crazy…. This is too my breath away.
Imperial green, brimming with water, and elegant elongated shape.

Ohhhh my gosh...that is stunning :kiss2: The glow...the colour...it looks perfect on you!

The last picture of the jadeite on you ear - I love that deep vibrant emerald shade of green!

If only there were more imperial marquise or flowy shapes ;(

Sungreen is a more yellowish, lighter green than imperial green.
It looks fresh, like new leaves. The bird nest ring from Kathy has three little sun green eggs. Sun green is considered the second most desirable hue in jadeite, after imperial green. Like you, I have avoided buying the bird ring because I’m so afraid I would accidentally behead the bird or knock an egg off.

I had so much fun with these earring! I kept telling myself they were really worth the price because I could make two rings and a pair of earrings out of them. I could even use one as a pendant and have the other made into a ring.
Expensive material like imperial green is usually made into ovals, which is, by convention, the most desirable shape.

:clap: :kiss2: :kiss2::kiss2: Thank you so much Crimson - You did the impossible! Are all 4 of these from one shop?!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm gosh picking one feels like a multiple choice question

Hmmm I think the 21.5k one might be my favourite as the colour appears deeper (do you know what type of green this is?) and I think it might be slightly more translucent?
The 15k one appears slightly brighter though (to my untrained eyes haha), but less translucent? Actually, looking again at the 2nd last picture you posted, I really can't tell which one looks the most translucent...
Is the 33k one the deepest shade of green? I can't really tell how translucent it is, or out why it costs over 10k more than the others.
The 6k one is a bit too small, but is it just me or is it super glowy?

Thank you again for helping me look for marquise jadeite pieces! <3

Yes, they are all from On Cheong.
The 21.5k one is my favourite, too. It has good water, a deep enough colour without being too dark, better proportions, and good thickness. The 6K one is smaller . It looks bright because the metal is shining through. The 15K one is not as bright as the 21.5K piece and is less translucent, as you said. Finally, the 33K ring is pretty long and the stone is bigger. It has good colour but I wish it were a bit wider. So the winner is… 21.5K! All the jadeite pieces come with a lab report.

Wow! So happy to see your new profile pic @Bookwyrm.
It looks lovely on you. I like the proportions. Looks like a good size too.
I do love the deep forest green. It has an air of mystery. In the trade it is called “艳绿’”or intense green.
The inclusions are there, but I don’t think they are distracting. it is likely most people won’t notice them.
Glad that you now have a new fav stone! I could never get tired of jadeite because there are so many hues and forms.
Just for fun - here is a huge honey jadeite pendant.
One of my friends, who is based in London, saw it online and liked it, so I went to help her have a look for her. It is as big as a biscuit! It also reminds me of marmalade.IMG_0390.jpeg

How perfect for fall!!

Sorry @mellowyellowgirl I can’t post them yet. I need to recover. There is no escaping jewellery stores in Singapore. I live on jewelllery island
An innocent stroll after lunch led me to buy something that will appear on the Minerva thread when I can face up to it.
Then I saw this ring which seemed to from a fantasy tale. I loved it so much that I bought it. Then I saw a pendant that matches it and so on…. @MMtwo would understand =)2
Showing it here with my icy jadeite earrings. to legitimize, posting it here :mrgreen2:
@Bookwyrm, the earrings are made with flowing shapes - like a fluid marquise shape!

I've never seen anything quite like that... stunnnnning!

Just... good lord. I never even knew jade could be this magical. It looks like something out of a fairytale. Unreal!

Ohhh I see, thank you. Is imperial green lighter than yan green?
Like you, I have avoided buying the bird ring because I’m so afraid I would accidentally behead the bird or knock an egg off.
 :lol-2::lol-2: Yes! I'd feel so bad haha
I'm always scared I'll knock my gemstone rings into something and chip them. Jade seems relatively soft compared to diamonds and sapphires, but at least it's really tough (so hopefully no chipping!)

Yessssss! A ring, pair of earrings and a pendant in imperial jadeite would be so amazing - holy grail set! :kiss2: Are you thinking of buying these earrings? I'm scared to even think about how expensive they'd be ;(
Yes, they are all from On Cheong.

A bombardment of questions incoming  (please let me know if I'm being too much of nuisance!) Do you happen to know the measurements of the 21.5 marquise? I'll also try reaching out to Oncheong for more pictures/videos in different lightings.
How would you describe the type of green of the 21.5 marquise?
Was the texture icy? I'm hoping for glassy, but I'm guessing it's probably icy?
Would you say that this marquise has a good amount of glowiness in real life? I'm hoping for something as glowy as imperial jadeite, but a forest green, but I'm not sure if that's possible haha

Thank you again for all the pictures and helping me search for marquise pieces!

@Autumn in New England Thank you =)2 So lovely to hear from you,
Yesterday when I went back to the shop, they offered me the matching earrings at half price. But the earrings are enormous, about 8 cm long and 3 cm wide.
Just... good lord. I never even knew jade could be this magical. It looks like something out of a fairytale. Unreal!
Magical indeed! They look like green water blobs and the light floats over them when I tilt them. They could rival the Lorraine Schwartz earrings that Angeline Jolie wore.

Ohhh I see, thank you. Is imperial green lighter than yan green?

Maybe, a tiny part of me is actually considering those earrings :lol-2: because they are a bit like the holy grail. Yes, the price is scary and at that level, one could buy many other beautiful things.

Re: the marquise I don’t know the measurements — I would say the stone is 12-13 mm? — but can get them for you. Yes, it’s very nicely icy with a fine texture. The green is saturated but not too dark and not quite imperial - it is a lush and gorgeous “full green”. The person who showed me the rings is Yvonne. She can take the pics and measurements and WhatsApp them to me, or you can contact them directly. Veronica is the store manager and Kevin (assistant store manager) is the one who is most comfortable communicating in English. The main store, which is where I went, is closed on Sundays.

Are you on holiday again?
I love those airy fairy carved earrings. It’s really an art.
I need to know about those pearls please!!!

Haha noooooooooo I wish! Pearls are just some nice and big freshies. The mix of colours goes well with some of my dresses.

Do you have holy grail earrings Crimson? Do you aim for some? If yes…….. those are definitely holy grail material!!!!!!

I’ve chosen to be kitschy when it comes to earrings. Safe for the hip pocket!

He is!! The cutest little bao bun! Did you purchase this piece?!
Completely out of reach, financially...but I love to admire so much cuteness!

I can understand, I know the ring. It is darling, I even showed my husband and son (who are sooo patient)

They are so light and airy. Love the pretty feminine look. Bonus they must be light to wear. Love the freshies too!

@mellowyellowgirl I saw this heart pendant on Kathy Jade and it reminded me of the ring in your profile! :kiss2:

I love the color on this one, so bright and clear. I'm with @mellowyellowgirl on loving the bright happy colors.

@MMtwo I had a such an enjoyable Jewellery day! Hope you will enjoy the jadeite pics below.

Yes, there is sun green which isn’t so much glowy as it is bright and arresting. Will post more later but for now, look, marquise rings! The prices are in Singapore dollars.
Which is your favorite? I do have a favorite among them but would like to hear your views!IMG_9934.jpegIMG_9932.jpegIMG_9937.jpegIMG_9938.jpegIMG_9935.png

Oh my, these are beautiful. I struggled to decide which I liked better, but overall, I can see the 21,000 ring is quite nice and well proportioned. Thank you for allowing us to shop with you!

Giiiirlllll, OMG, just stop everything. These earrings are absolutely epic. Those are museum earrings, movie star earrings...I don't know, but as fine as anything I ever saw. If you buy them, they need their own thread so we can oogle them more.

@MMtwo Yes, they are! I can take my time; it is not likely they will be snapped up. I already have imperial green (but not quite holy grail, @mellowyellowgirl ).
It is undeniable that these are epic because of their size, luminosity and amazing water.
To amuse ourselves in the meantime, let’s look at some pretty and whimsical jadeite pieces (following on from @Bookwyrm’s Kathy selection and the lovable panda)IMG_0460.jpeg

Yes Ma'am, I could see where they would be a very big decision! So lovely
I appreciate the pictures!
I would love one of each. So much to see and oogle!
That little teacup, how whimsical.

I love those cluster earrings with the pears! :kiss2: Gosh why do I just love everything pear and marquise  :lol-2:

Sooooo, I tried reaching out to On Cheong through WeChat and asked about the marquise ring you showed me, but the sales associate I talked to really did not seem to like marquise or pear shapes :lol-2: He said they were a lot more risky as they ends are prone to chipping :( I thought due to jade's toughness, chipping wouldn't be as much of a problem as it is with pointier diamonds, but I guess it can still happen. The sales associate also really recommended that I visit in person before choosing or purchasing anything, which is probably a good idea haha

I was shown a couple of smaller oval shapes that were really glowy and pretty, but I don't know if I like them as much as marquise and pears. I guess I'll have to have a think about whether to go for a marquise shape still, after talking to On Cheong. Ahhh decisions decisions...;(

The pearls might have been freshies, however, they are VERY NICE freshies.

Multi-colour Edisons by any chance?

DK :))

Was it Kevin you spoke to? The guy with glasses and rosy cheeks? He is always teasing me.
Anyway, I asked Yvonne for outdoor photos. Here they are! Today was cloudy but the ring still looks bright and reacts nicely to the light. I think the marquise is nicely protected by the halo. The only addition I would make is to add some prongs at the middle.

Ooh, I think pears and marquises are perfectly fine in earrings. Less danger of knocking into anything hard.

Intense green is the top colour designation for HKJSL, looks like you scored an unicorn!

Yes Ma'am, I could see where they would be a very big decision! So lovely
I appreciate the pictures!

That little teacup, how whimsical.

@MMtwo So many choices in Jewel Land. Did you know one of our airport terminals is actually called Jewel?
The teacup is so cute! I also like those very dramatic butterfly earrings with the dripping dangles.
Oh my…’to make things worse, another Jeweller texted me today with photos of an 8 carat intense cornflower blue Sapphire. The fun never ends.:lol-2::mrgreen2::love:

Intense green is the top colour designation for HKJSL, looks like you scored an unicorn!

@Sydneyphoenix Yes and yay!
it is the top designation. In that case, I have a few unicorns.
They don’t use the term “Imperial green”, which is more of a trade name, but intense green is not imperial although all imperial is intense green.

This arrived today. I love it. It even makes my emerald studs look tired, so matching earrings are goals. From Kathy Jade.

Thank you, yes! Someone pointed the little fox out earlier today. This is a little bit better look at his face. He's cute and I am thrilled with him. Now to hunt down earrings. While he is not very translucent, he is extremely vibrant. So far I haven't had much luck, but I will keep up the search.IMG_2118.jpegIMG_2114.jpeg

If you are after imperial green 帝王綠 or emerald green 翠綠 jadeite cabochon online internationally, where would you try, Kathy Jade in Taiwan once found a 1.5ct Cabochon for me, but I declined it at the time, maybe shouldn’t have then, was a good price too…
