Not sure if this is "extremely" rare but this is something not common esp. this big & clean ::)

My most favorite right now among my gems hehe

7.60ct CLINOHUMITE (vvs2, 13.2x11.2x7.8mm) aka Sunflower Stone :wavey:

Palagems: "In addition to spinel, clinohumite is also recovered at Kuh-i-Lal. Cut stones can be lovely and are locally termed "sunflower stone." Such stones have also been mentioned in the ancient accounts of the mines."

It is simply spectacular! Are you planning to wear it?

I was originally thinking a bezel setting but I realized it's not so durable stone so I have to be more cautious. I'd probably just keep it for now in my gem box and just hold it/look at it each morning before I go to work ::)

Very nice example!

The rarest stones I think I have are a couple of Dunilite - they are deeply unattractive, but extremely hard to find. I also have an iridescent rainbow garnet and they are incredibly hard to find.

Here's a link to a Dunilite. They're part of the Olivine group (best known for Peridot) and were discovered in 1996. I was lucky to find some reasonable sized ones - about 0.30ct - when I was last in Sri Lanka. I donated one to Gem-A and kept the others.

Frequently, once something is "rare" And commercially viable, it is interesting how soon more of the "rare" stone is found and marketed and ready for selling.

There are few truly rare valuable stones with depleted or depleting supplies despite aggressive attempts by man to obtain more.

Alexandrites of a certain quality, good Pariaba Tourmalines and FCDs spring to mind as being both commercially in demand, with active mines/explorations attempting to obtain more but relative scarcity in the market. I'm sure there are more.
