Fabric puddling?

Did any former brides do this? How much fabric would you need? Is 1 yard enough? I was going to buy x amount of yards, should I hem the edges? Oy, sorry so many questions!

I would buy some cheap fabric that is the same texture as what you''re thinking of using (satin I take it?) and play around with it.

If you do use a satiny material I would definitely hem the edged because that stuff frays like crazy! When I use it to make a dress I something single the cut edges a little with a lighter to keep them from fraying.
