Hi. I’m wondering if you see anything wrong with this stone and if it matters or not. It’s a spinel and it’s about 1.3ct around $130. I think I like the color but I’m not sure if this looks like wear to the facets and if so how bad it is. Thanks!

Facet abrasion. Maybe it was sitting in a bag with a million other gems for a long time. Some dealers just handle the stones that way, and unfortunately they don’t hold up well. If you can’t see it with the naked eye and you love the gem, then enjoy it. It seems to be inexpensive.

Have you bought it already? It appears to have a large window.

I have not bought it yet. I do see what you’re saying and for some reason I hadn’t noticed the window. It looks well cut but maybe it’s not quite right.

The second picture where it’s showing face up (what you see if you set it) shows it. The very light area is where the light passes through. In a light stone, you would see your skin. In a darker stone, that area will stay dark and not be sparkly.

Windowing isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, it’s just one of the factors to assess if the stone is a good buy. Most of my early stones were windowed to some degree since I had a tiny budget, but now I’m a lot fussier (while still having a small budget :lol-2:).

I disagree that it is a window because the stone is tilted. What you are seeing in the second picture is a tilt window. This is to be expected of almost all gemstones due to their R.I.

Without mincing words, that looks terrible. It would definitely be visibly scratched and abraded. Unless they'd repolish (and potentially recut) it, I would pass
