CCL, I have seen the stone with the loupe as wl
well as outside and it is definitely more pleasing to my eye than the current stone, though I think it faces up small for it's size. As you said though, the original faces up huge b/c it's so shallow. As for the aset image, I wish I could get to David before Friday so he could see the stone and possibly scan the aset image for me...at least then I could get your opinion too. I do think this stone is prettier than the one I have and I know I'm not happy with it, so my instinct is to take it to David on Friday and see what he says and if he doesn't see any flags, try to get malakov to do the trap side stones as part of an even exchange since the stone seems to be a.
bit on the high side.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. It's helped to "talk" it through. :)

Just a hail mary shot in the dark, but ask Malakov if they have heard of the Antique Cutting House that does antique 8 main cushions. The family name is Krik (Benjamin and Fromm) they cut stones in NYC. A "connected" family like Malakhov should have heard of them :saint: .

If they could get you this stone(or something similar from this cutter) it would leave you uplenty of room to get the trap or bullet sidestones.

Thanks ccl..I'll see if they might do that. Let you all know later today! Fingers crossed!

Best of luck to you yennyfire.

Cachette :))

Yes, best of luck. . . I'm sure this is very nerve wracking!!

Yenny - if you are on the iphone, you can take pics with the aset scope, just put the camera over it. You just have to make sure the stone is perfectly "level" for the best pics. Just a thought, as I've done it before. Oh - and tap the screen where you want it to focus (at least for iphone 3gs).

Good luck!!!

Anyone up for one more? Gia 16951951 3.31 ct

It's I vs1 cushion brilliant
He wants $46k for it which is more than I have but it looks like a great stone

Yenny - the new cushion looks less square (9.62 x 8.33) whereas the first cushion was more square (9.24 x 9.29) - do you have a preference? I thought you wanted a something more square?

Yenny this is a waste of time. We can't judge anything you tell us except to reject a stone outright. Given the background the best advice is to choose the stone you find most appealing to your eyes.

In terms of properly judging the value of the stones being offered:

i) we know his margins will be higher than internet merchants
ii) cut has such an enormous bearing on the prices of 3 ct stone you would need a true expert to look at the stone and evalute it taking into account comparables.

Cut in a 3CT stone can change the value +/- 10k easily. You can't judge cut from the certificate to such a fine degree.
I would tell you the 3.31 looks promising but I don't know anything more and can't tell you if its worth 45k(sounds overpriced) noone could without a full barrage of optical and physical examinations.

I agree at this point ccl. Will have to wait til I take it to David tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

If I were in your situation I'd stick to rounds, where cut quality is much easier to determine.

I'd rather be confident about what I bought than unsure.

Any updates today?

Hi Yenny,

Just wanted to send a note of support in hopes that you found something that meets your expectations.

Please update when you can!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful weekend.

I feel bad for Yenny. I looked up the business and found this:

from Yelp

Somerville, MA
2 star rating
1/18/2010

Some nice stuff, but this place is a major bait and switch if you go custom. Typical to pay thousands of dollars above appraisal because of the way they cut corners once they find out your budget. (They won't write out all the specs for metals, diamond quality, etc.) Also extremely nasty and difficult to deal with if you're unsatisfied. They are also affiliated with Roman Malakov down the street from them. Same deal there.

Thank you Liz for your comment. I'm not sure what exactly caused you such misery but I will try to avoid it from happening to future clients. You and our fellow Yelpers should know however that a few of our clients who made large purchases had written 5 star reviews about our company (please see filtered reviews). Anyhow your feedback is appreciated.

Yenny,

I haven't thought about anything BUT you over the last few days. I really really hope things went well. Please let us know how you are and how things went. I am hoping you have found a solution to this nightmare. I feel sick every time I think of the situation this appalling firm put you in. I wish you the best of luck in all this. You deserve it!!
