I recently posted photos of an Angelina Faccenda gown that I''m in love with, but I noticed that the AF gowns do not use the little elastic loops or clear plastic snaps that many designers use to keep the line of buttons held down smooth over the zipper (the better to hide it, my dear!). So, of course, the buttons don''t sit flat and from the right side both the buttons and zipper are visible (not particularly lovely, though a survivable offense). Has anyone had experience with having a seamstress remedy the problem somehow? I realize this may be very specific to the particular dress and seamstress for how difficult or easy it would be, but I''m wondering if anybody here has some idea. The dress is made from shantung silk.

If you don''t come up with a better alternative, I would be tempted to "sew" yourself into it. Once you are zipped up, have an assistant place a few stitches to hold the flap down. You would likely only need a stich or two at a couple of places along the length of the zipper. You can get curved needles that would allow someone to do this without stabbing you.

As you don''t need to take it off for any reason during the day, this wouldn''t really be a problem, and when you do need to take it off the few tiny stiches would likely break easily as you unzip.

Hehehe, that would probably work, salty. I think I would just be paranoid all night that I was going to pop the stitches or rip the fabric where they were put in. Hmmm, I found an alterations website where they quote prices for adding just buttons, or buttons with the elastic loops, to a zippered dress, so there must be some way to do it.

Did you ask the designer if you could special order the gown with buttons with loops? I did this for mine.
