I have recently discovered a LOVE for the taste of beer. So far my favorites are Samuel smith Oatmeal Stout and Apricot Ale. The store next to my house has over a hundred types of beers and I can't figure out what to try next. The night shift guy is brand new and learning all the types right now too. Drinkability is not a huge issue as I only drink one per day if that (it's like my dessert).

I lived in NY (and now live on the border) so I'm usually able to get my favorite brand - Saranac. Their Black Forest beer is a dark lager (looks black, but doesn't taste nearly as heavy as a stout). It's honestly better on tap, but I'll take what I can get. In general, I think their beers are fantastic and they're always coming out with awesome new summer and winter beers. Their Pomegranate Wheat is, in my opinion, the best "fruity flavored" beer out there. It's similar to Sam's Cherry Wheat, but much less sweet and less obviously fruity, which is how I like it. It's really subtle and well done. Another local NY beer is Ithaca Brewing Co - their Cascazilla is great if you like IPAs.

For more nationally available stuff, I'll buy pretty much any Pale Ale or India Pale Ale, also red ales and lagers - that pretty much describes my taste. I usually avoid super light stuff (no pilsners for me) and super dark stuff (I only occasionally like a stout or porter). Sierra Nevada is always good, as is Anchor Steam. Harpoon makes my favorite IPA. Sam Adams is good and comes out with some nice seasonals (I really like their Winter Lager). Bass Ale is always good because it's tasty and easy to find on draft in most bars now. Smithwicks is another good one that's pretty easy to find in most bars that serve Guinness. Fat Tire is always popular, though I find it hard to get out east. Stoudt and Victory are from eastern PA (in the same towns I used to work in, coincidentally) and both make good varieties. Rogue is great.

One great thing to do, if you can, is buy a growler (large glass jug) of beer from a brewery or a beer store that carries beer on tap. It's usually far cheaper to get a refill on a growler than to buy a six pack or something, and it's good beer one tap! I have a local store that carries at least 10 beers on tap and will fill your growler with them. The only problem is that it doesn't keep well in growler form once you've opened it and started drinking, so it's better to get one and share with friends.

I tend to like hoppier beers and am not typically a fan of anything too "heavy." Some of my favorites:

Three Floyds Gumballhead
Founder's Red Rye PA
Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
Schlafly Raspberry Hefeweizen

The other night, we tried mixing a cherry beer (don't know which one it was) with an imperial stout, and I found that surprisingly good!

I really love beer (one of the hardest things for me to deal with, being pregnant and all...). I like unfiltered beers, like Warsteiner, Hoegarden, Blue Moon, etc... But we also like to try all sorts of different beers, like oatmeal stouts, ales, and various micro-brews. Rogue Ale is pretty good (based in Oregon), but around here (SE Michigan) Bell's is pretty big. Lots of good beer to choose form, and I can't drink any!! ;(

Stella Artois and Killian's Red!

My favorite used to be Broyhan but it is no longer manufactured from what I wa stold.

For hoppy (and I mean hoppy) beers some other good ones are

Dale's Pale Ale
Gordon Ale

(Both of these come in cans but are very good)

I like a lot of Belgium beer

Chimay is the only one I can think of the top of my head

And if you are into a more fruity taste ldemans framboise is interesting for sure it’s more like champagne

If you like Killian's Red then you will like Smithwick's Irish ale. Killian's is made by Budweiser and the mimicked Smithwick's to make Killian's.

My favorite beers is De.

Natural Ice

Just kidding.

Leinies Summer Shandy or Honey Weiss

It's like a midwest thing I think.

Killian's is brewed by Coors, but I agree that it's very similar to Smithwick's! I never knew that the brewers were imitating Smithwick's when they came up with it.

Stone Arrogant bastard
Swamphead Stumpknocker
Sam Adams Octoberfest
Guinness
Land Shark

*drool* BEER!!! :lickout:

St. Arnolds Lawnmower (recent favourite)
Hoegaarden
New Belgium Sunshine Wheat
Indio (only available in Mexico...at least...not in the US)
Blue Moon (pretty much I love wheat beers...hefeweizens)
Amstel Light
The list goes on, but...those are my favourites!

I'm more of a beer than anything drinker. I will also drink things like Miller Lite and Bud Select if/when I'm drinking a lot of beer (game days).

Ha, I was thinking Nasty Light and PBR.

Seriously, I love me some Boddington's and Yuengling, got hooked on John Smiths while I was in England, and I like Blue Moon. I'll also gladly drink a Guinness, but to be fair, it's generally in car bomb format.

Don't know if you have Boulevard where you live, but a local favorite here is Boulevard Wheat. I also love Blue Moon (I'm another wheat beer fan). Definitely check out micro-breweries in your area.

This stuff is great: http://www.ommegang.com/ We visited the brewery last summer while visiting my bf's family. Whole Foods sells it. :)

Lots of good ones mentioned here!

There's an Aussie Beer I love - Coopers Pale Ale. Yum.

I am not a beer drinker, but my H is.

I was in the liquor store this morning and bought

Infinium Ale by Samuel Adams

Apparently this is a Champagne-like beer, with fine bubbles
and a fruity, spicy aroma/taste. We shall see!!

Has anyone tried this?

i haven't gotten into the microbrews seriously. but here's a list of my favs:
  • amstel light
    sierra nevada
    fat tire
yuengling (can't find anywhere close to get it)
    blue moon

(really, i'm very far from a beer snob & in my former life used to exclusively PBR because it was $1/can at the bar i went to & since it was in a can, i was less likely to spill it. true story. :nono:  )

and on a funny side note, when i lived in KY yuengling was not distributed it but was in TN. i had friends who would drive down on "beer runs" for yuenglings. then when i babysat their kids part of my payment was a 6 pack. those are some good friends :D :D :D

Mmmmmm...Boulevard! You're in STLO, right merilenda??? FI and I are getting hitched in KCMO and paying the upcharge to serve Boulevard at our reception! It wouldn't be KC without it!

never had one in my life.

In the words of Homer Simpson...mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...beer.
I actually got to tour New Belgium about 10 years ago and was ready to move into the place. Very cool digs for those people. Strange thing is, I like Fat Tire, but from a keg, not a bottle. I also like 1554 and Frambozen. In the winter, I love beer you can stand a spoon in, dark, black, chocolate stouts. Local microbrews are my favorites now and just about anything Woodchuck makes for cider. And don't even think of offering me a Michelob Ultra; that's just beer flavored water. :knockout:

Red Hook Long Hammer IPA

Rogue beer rocks. My Dh and I were driving from Oregon back up into WA and happened to pass by the Rogue brewery and had a great time in their little resturant. They take pictures and create Rogue Nation ID with your photo on it and everything. One time when I was carded, I used it instead of my drivers license. lol The lady laughed :)

Beer is NOT my thing BUT I do enjoy the MEDALLA beer that you will find in Puerto Rico. It goes down easy and doesn't have that typical beer taste many other brands have. I wish they sold it here..it's something I'd buy for a summer BBQ

estrella
anchor steam
boris
lowenbrau
red stripe
kronenbourg
brooklyn lager

My favorites tend to be Belgian-style abbey ales. Chimay Blue is amazing but priced to match. My go-to beer is Ommegang Abbey Ale (it's a microbrewery in upstate NY). Their saison, Hennepin, is also really yummy.

This is actually my favorite time of year for beer drinking, though, because I LOOOVVVE Christmas ales. Corsendonk is fantastic, and Ommegang's Adoration, which is super rare, is to die for. I also like Scaldis Noel.

Other than these, I really like saisons in the warmer months. There are lots of good ones out there. I'm not a big fan of wheat beers, though DH loves them. Unless I'm in a weird mood, I tend to think that the richer and fuller-flavored a beer is, the better. I used to drink IPAs and other hoppy beers, but haven't been very into those lately. I did have a decent porter last night, it wasn't as heavy as some porters can be so I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name! I love living in a beery city, we have so many delicious ones to choose from.

Deschutes porter
lambic, krik
and, of course, guinness.

MoZo

Blue Moon with an orange :lickout:

DH brews, so homebrew is my favorite.

My favorite non-homebrew is Maredsous 8.
Then, Bell's Oberon.
I generally like Browns, Stouts, and Wit beers. Love malt. HATE hoppy.
