February 2019 Colored Stone Purchases

A fancy intense blue-green diamond - 0,47 ct natural untreated with GIA report. Very strong turquoise fluorescence and short phosphorescence. The larger black inclusion ( which I love!) are thin graphite blades.

Just got this in the mail on the last day of February so it still gets to go in this thread! Beautiful, sweet little ring I bought pre-loved from @leslie1956 and made by Yvonne. Center is a 4mm emerald cab and sides are 2.2 mm hauynite. Set in platinum silver. I just love the color combo and cannot believe how bright those blues are!

What a pretty ring. Great score!!!

@scouty_gems I love the extended asscher cut of your grey spinle
@sapphiremomma hauynes are my all time favorite sidestones and they go great with the emerald green

Thank you @2Neezers @MissyBeaucoup and @sapphiremomma ..the pendant arrived today and the sparkle/brilliance of the Vietnamese spinels blew me away. So glad Yvonne recommended them. (I am usually avoid any pinks with even a hint of orange/peach modifiers but these are sooo pretty...hopefully this doesn't put me on the hunt for a pad ).

Wow, lilmosun Yvonne really outdid herself on your new pendant, she's gorgeous! I also adore your new ring by David Klass, the colors and design are very elegant :-)

Very cool! I love the photos of it’s turquoise fluorescence and inclusion.

This is so cool, Nosean! I love the fluorescence! The inclusion looks kind of like a flower floating in water. It is a special reminder of the origins of your stone. How beautiful! I imagine it’s even more special in person since you can see those graphite places from different angles. You got such a great close+up shot.

We have a thread for “Fun with Fluorescence!” Will you add your photos to it please? I’ll try to resurface the thread. Thank you!

What a fantastic collection of colored diamonds @Nosean

Good photos. I am jealous of your photography skill.

Only an old ipad mini and a simple microscope. Need a better one.

Which microscope do you use? I am shopping for a microscope.

Stopped collecting colored stones - so this is the beginning...
My goal is to wind down collecting colored stones and find a less expensive hobby

Which microscope do you use? I am shopping for a microscope.

This one - In Munich show often as a special offer and a bit cheaper.

I need no stoneholder or darkfield. I bought an additional 1,5 and 4,5 objective so I have 10x,15x,30x and 45x.

My minilab has a small polariscope I can use this quite good and immersion in water works fine too. Stoneholder is a tweezer and with a stack of some book you put the tweezer on a cloth - better stability than these stoneholder.

Thanks for sharing. Why you don’t need a darkfield? For me dark field is very useful

There is white, black and milkyglass disk and I use parts of my minilab

My pink spinel cab studs are finished! Can't wait to get these babies into my ears:) This should motivate me to set my other pink spinel into its stacking ring home.

I love these! I've been on a cab fixation the past year and these are beautiful!

Thanks, lilmosun :-) I was so lucky to get these on sale! I like good quality cabs, too, don't understand why they don't sell as quickly (per Yvonne).

Since we don't have a March thread (hint), I'll post this here...after all it was made in February even if I haven't gotten it yet :)

Some may remember that I purchased a beautiful mint garnet from katharath.

(Since she helped with the original purchase, Yvonne was willing to set it at my risk.)

What a gorgeous combination, lilmosun:dance: You must wear it on St. Patty's Day, lol!

Leslie, hope you get it in time for Mardi Gras! It's got the gold, green and purple!

I wish! The gorgeous ring belongs to lilmosun :-)

Continuing this thread even though its been a few months (wow have the last 3 months flown by!) & I couldnt find a spot to post my colored stone purchases so far this May!

All are very inexpensive but im proud to say I didnt go towards my usual habit of purchasing small things just to purchase something in between larger purchases. While they were all pretty inexpensive I truly took my time and really thought about what I would set and asked myself with each purchase "Do I really love this stone? Does it bring me happiness?"

I plan to set these in silver settings made by my trusty smith. :kiss2:

A pear shaped Quartz with Lepidochrosite inclusions. I truly have an affinity for these stones. Something about them intrigues me entirely!

A unique emerald-type cut Serpentine gemstone. This is another gem stone that im naturally drawn to that others necessarily aren't. It also seems to have not been polished which ads to the overall "vibe" of the stone IMO.

Another Quartz with Lepidochrosite. Can you tell I love them? This one is special because it has some lovely goethite and it also reminds me of the original lepido quartz that I first purchased that started my love for them.

This blue sapphire that I purchased is so tiny but very interesting. I purchased it because someday Id love to create my dream yellow gold snake ring and set this blue baby into its head.

I also purchased this pretty little Thai star sapphire that is such a delicious color.
I plan on setting this in a simple yellow gold stacking ring, possibly a dotted band.

& Lastly, I'm so proud of this one as some of you may remember reading that my significant other couldnt be father from having a gemstone hobby and hasnt always been the best gift giver when it comes to jewelry. Hes a man that is great at giving travel gifts like taking me to Mexico but cannot differentiate between solid gold and gold plating so this should tell you how far he came for this one....he purchased this uniquely colored Gem silica cabochon at 14mm all on his own! My jaw dropped! It has some surface reaching porosity but other than that I love it and now it has 100x more meaning because it was given to me by him on his own volition. He said that he was looking for blue green gems and that this one seemed special.
He could have purchased a dyed blue green agate but the big turkey purchased my first gem silica for me!
I'm very shocked and very proud of him! Haha
I plan to set it in yellow or rose gold someday. :kiss2:

So far that is it but im sure I'll find more
Im definetely in a gem collecting phase as of late.

Anyone else purchase any lovely colored beauties? From gems costing 10$ to 10k?:mrgreen2:
