I bought a Cuprian Tourmaline the other day and want to have it set but I REALLY don't want another halo! I want to do something different (a ring - not pendant) and need to keep the cost down (so think LOGR/Lanbo4 prices). So I need your help and inspiration as to what I can do with it!

The Cuprian is 3.33ct and measures just under 11 x 9mm (I think this is going to be the best dimensions for a setting). As you can see from the photos it's HIGHLY included but the glow and neon qualities are amazing which is why I want to set it!

Have you seen a setting that you think would work?

Hey LD! That's such a beautiful stone! Ok, so I just browsed like a ton of settings and it's hard to find a non halo pear setting, isn't it? Have you thought about a pendant? That 3+ carat stone would be glorious as a pendant.

Pendant, pendant!!!
Do you have a small stone on hand to put at the top? I love it.

Hi guys - I don't want a pendant - sorry! I have so many of them and seem to only wear 3 or 4 favourites so it's not an option.

Soooooooo, any suggestions for a ring? It's incredibly difficult as you say MissyDebby to find something without a halo :((

Hey Hi!!!
Halos aren't my favorite, and I LOVE PEARS!!!!
YOURS is STUNNING!!!
I love the ideas in the Show Me the Bling forum ~ search ~ pears and see the thread
Pears fan-club

There are so many beauties in there!!!!
Lauren's Mahenge Spinel ring comes to mind, and there are
some bezeled beauties....
I am partial to pear with a tapered baguette on each side.
One of my ultimate favorites is on page one: Namtan pear ring ~ ooooo la la~ !!!!!!!

Sorry, but LOGR has gotten so expensive lately that I don't even look there anymore!

There’s the 3 stone option; the nicest I’ve seen that is non-halo is with baguette sides ala Harry Winston.

Instead of a halo would you consider a bezel? Then of course there's also a 3 stone or basic solitaire. Have you looked at Americanset on ebay? They can do some modifications on their settings if you ask.

Thanks Chrono and Arc. I like the idea of the tapered baguette setting BUT I'm worried that the baguettes will look too small against the pear and won't be in proportion. I had my Aqua asscher set in that setting and the baguettes (although very clean and nice) are quite small. Interestingly, I haven't found anything from Americanset but have found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130388807275&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

I've used this Vendor once before but can't remember what I thought of the diamond quality which isn't very helpful!

I dont have any suggestions for cheap settings but I've got a setting design I'd like for a pear of that size and colour and have been searching for a stone similar to yours to make it work, so given that I havent found "the stone" and I know yours would work with this idea (at least for me) here's the sketch. I was thinking someone like DanielM to make it for me.

PS can I ask where/who you got that stone from and how much did it cost? (seriously - I want it and would happily buy it from you, but as that is not an option I want to do a sister stone so need to know who you got it from)

I'm seeing that ring with light yellow trilliant side stones, set in high karat yellow gold. Yum.

LD, unfortunately I don't have any experience with them so can't comment on their diamond quality. The setting does look nice. the only thing I would worry about is the depth considering colored stones are deeper than diamonds typically. Could they put longer prongs on the setting you think?

LD,
Here is the original HW setting and as you can see, the baguettes are actually quite small compared to the center stone.

Mac-W - I'm afraid (as you guessed) this stone is most definitely NOT for sale. Finding a Cuprian that glows and is so neon of this size is quite a challenge. This was a very lucky find. If you're looking for something similar (and affordable) I'd suggest looking at a Sphene or Peridot BUT a pear of the same size as my Cuprian will take a while to find or perhaps you could ask some of the Vendors on this site to source you some material. If your heart is set on a Cuprian then perhaps have a look here http://www.paraibainternational.com/products.php?category=3&page=all&sort= Most of their pear shapes are smaller but perhaps they might have something if you ask.

iLander - I love your suggestion but I'm not a mixed coloured stone girl I'm afraid! I very rarely mix coloured side stones with a central stone. I know that means I limit myself but it's a definite preference of mine and the ring wouldn't be worn if I did that. I'm a fussy mare!

Arc - I have to admit that was my concern also. As they say they can modify the head I'm sure extra long prongs might be workable. I've just been trying to find a good size tapered baguette setting on Ebay but I'm not finding much. They seem waaaaay too small. :(sad

Chrono - thanks for that! I hadn't realised that the HW had such small side stones. To be honest if I could find that setting - obviously a cheaper version - I think I'd go with that! I love the classic look.

Oh Nashville I'm so sorry. Major apologies. In my defence I'm on horrible pain killers at the mo and my brain is a tad frazzled! I'm surprised my posts are even making sense!

A three stone would be pretty or a simple bezel. Or pave down the shank? Or some unusual metal work. A scroll design on the shank or something?

I love the idea of scroll work but as I'm trying to keep costs down I'm not sure I'll find a setting that'll fit the stone :((

i like Mac's design.

i've never been a fan of halos. i'm so glad this color stone will not be set in one.

this stone cries for creativity. i say take your time and have something made for it.

while this ring is for much smaller stones, it is whimsical.....perhaps a starting point for creating your own design for your lovely pear.

Thanks for your input MZ. I've actually got a ring that's incredibly similar to the one you've posted but with purple diamonds. I think the original was the bubble ring by Cartier! This stone could look good with a cage of gold around it like you suggest BUT it's a big stone and since I won't have anything east-west, this would be an enormous ring!

What type of metal were you thinking of? High carat gold would be very pretty with the bright green color. But not sure about the cost of that though.

White gold. I don't wear yellow at all so high karat gold isn't an option (but I do know that this colour Tourmaline looks best in yellow but if it wouldn't get worn it won't work anyway)

AN - Sally's ring is stunning! I love it. I may well contact her and see if she can make it in white gold and somehow put a head on it! What a great find. Thank you!

A tension mount would be rather unusual and unique for this Pear. If it were my Pear, (lovely by the way )I would want it to pop (alone) and be the star !

I would be afraid to put an included stone in a tension setting; it would likely make it actually pop!

I think it could work with a spiral tension setting. Just offering different ideas.

Daniel M could probably make you a very inexpensive setting similar to the HW. He made the setting for cemrn's pink asscher...

He also made this stone for someone recently; it's sleek and simple:

If you're not interested in shipping your stone overseas to the US, maybe he could make an open setting and you could have it set locally. Not sure if he does that.

JStar - thank you so much for that. I've just sent DanielM a question to see how much one would cost with slightly larger baguettes and a couple of modifications. Interestingly, I browsed his store yesterday but completely missed the pink asscher!

This one is not cheap but seems to be an interesting jeweler

Also, Anne Sportun is having a sale; I shall try to find the ring that I like

https://secure.annesportun.com/shopping.jsp?styleCode=r350g

It is similar to what Sally does but less filigree. It won't distract attention from your stone.

And, probably the best of all

I like Ruby Daphne ring's setting

BTW - congratulations with such a beautiful stone!

I found a very good jeweler whose pendants would suit your stone - her name is Linda Quinn. I can see the pendant only in a book but not on her website and I am unsure as to whether I can reproduce it. But it is very nice; she uses polishes high-carat gold and her pendants and rings are very nice. She has a website and the phone is there. Worth checking out.
