your ring is absolutely lovely! People are just rude

Well I dont know who picked it..but if it was him it shows how he put some real thought into it...instead of just picking the norm to please others. If you had input, that show that you were both involved in the decison and that is a GREAT way to start out a life together. SO either way...don''t be feeling down. I really like the yellow glow to it.

i''m in the usa.....san francisco, california. but moving to ALASKA soon (in three weeks) so i''m eager to try and get changes done now. i find that most the places here are more on the upscale end, and we are poor students....we dont have tons of money to make changes. Has anyone ever done business with "the jewelers place" here in the richmond district??

Congratulations on your engagement and your beautiful ring!

Here are a just a few things to think about when those naysayers make you feel bad or different about your ring.

Your diamond is truly a natural wonder. Any diamond is a gift of nature, but a diamond stands maybe a 1 in 10,000 chance of becoming a colored diamond. Not only did your diamond start as carbon six miles deep in the earth, some 40 million years ago, but the carbon that became your diamond mixed with unique trace elements that made it 10,000 more rare than any of your "friends" diamonds. Then by some miracle, your diamond formed fine enough that once it made it''s long journey out of the earth, someone else saw the beauty inside this rough crystal. Then a master cutter took the time to fashion it into this brilliant gem, and then by another miracle, and a lot of love, it ended it''s journey on your hand. Imagine how rare and unlikely that really is!!

When your friends stare down at their colorless diamonds, they see the same look every day, and it is the same look that is on millions of other peoples hands. Your diamond looks different almost everywhere you go, as you have already noticed. It''s subtleties in color match the subtle differences of you and your fiancee''s relationship. What could be a better selection to mark your relationship than a diamond that is as rare and unique and beautiful as your love ?

I think you are extremely fortunate and your fiancee is very thoughtful to present you with something so special. When your "friends" look at you like an alien that you wanted a colored diamond, just smile and explain that you thought it would be a little too boring to wear a plain old white diamond, that you wanted something that was truly special..

I think it is a great idea to play with different mountings and find the look that you feel will really bring out it''s beauty and be comfortable on your hand. After all, you''re going to wear this ring for the next 100 years. I am sure your fiancee will feel the same way that together you will make it just perfect. Congratulations again, it really is beautiful.

Wow, it''s just lovely, and I love the colour of the setting, and how it plays with the colour of the diamond.

Since you''re on a budget, could you maybe find a jeweler who can thin out the bezel and shank a bit?

dkodner- your message touched me! my fiancee are truly unique as well as our journey to this point in our lives. we were born two days apart in the same hospital in a small town, but I didn''t fall head over heels with him until years after in high school, where this nerdy girl was in love with the popular jock....who had no clue who she was. haha. somehow someway we found eachother, and here we are. he absolutely LOVES the diamond he picked out as he is a geologist and sees the beauty in how the earth created this beautiful "rock" on his future wife''s hand. he could care less about what my setting is....he cares about the diamond! so i am lucky!

thanks to all of you....you have helped me so much!

Your ring is beautiful! Colored diamonds have so much personality. And it sounds like your fiance put a lot of thought into selecting your diamond, which makes it all that much more special.

I love your setting (I''m partial to bezels...I just got little bezel earrings), but I can understand if you''d like it to be a little smaller. There was someone who just posted in Show Me The Ring the other day and she had an amazing ring made by a jeweler in San Francisco. Off to look for her thread...

Here it is: vgirl''s ring made by SF jeweler

If you look on page 2 of the thread, she says that the jeweler is Ben at Kim Yen Jewelers in the S.F. Jewelry Center. I don''t know how expensive he is and if the S.F. Jewelry Center is near you, but if you''re still interested in modifying your setting, maybe he can help?

What a lovely story. He picked the diamond for you and that you love it! I really like it too. On my monitor it looks to be a fancy brownish yellow diamond. I had a diamond ring that color and I am kicking myself for trading it in. Like LTP said, I think if you thinned out the bezel, it could really showcase the beauty of that diamond. It is gorgeous and deserves to be in the spotlight!!

It''s Great !! Chalk it up to people being uneducated in diamonds.

I have two diamonds. One is an "F" and one is a "P" (see avitar). I love the "P" maybe more than the bright white "F".

Yours is gorgeous. It has a neat brown/yellow color. Congrats.

I think it is lovely. I love colored stones!

That is a beautiful champagne diamond. Most of the champagnes I see are an ugly brown but your has a lovely yellow undertone with the colour of whisky. For a more delicate look and to help the center stone pop, it''ll be great if the setting can be modified to have a thinner shank.

I absolutely love your diamond.

Most people have no idea that diamonds come in different colors. Consider the source of the comments and ignore them!

(This advice will serve you well throughout your life. I promise.

does anyone know which i easier between making my half-bezel smaller (as in the two "sides" being shortened) or getting my shank slimmed down??? I''m thinking that if i can at least have one of those changes i will be satisfied and feel like my ring is more feminine.

I live in San Francisco too and know of a couple places.

I think your ring is FAB! I love it! I would love to own a champagne diamond (or 2) someday. Attractive champagne diamonds in that (large) size are hard to come by, and most probably will become more hard to come by as time goes by.

inner kitten have you ever heard of "a jewelers place"? i read about it on yelp :)

I haven''t heard of them but I''m going to have to look them up. I used a couple of jewelers in the Shreve building and found the prices very reasonable, but both were for small things. Still, they might be worth checking out. Del Bonta did a repair for me. They are super nice. And Edmund Weber set a diamond for me into a bezel pendant. I was happy with the result. If I can think of anyone else I''ll post it here. I''m going to check out the one you mentioned on yelp.

Oh, and Lang Antiques uses Del Bonta for some of their small repair jobs.

i like it and wouldn''t change a thing. but i like the unusual. i like your setting and i love champagne diamonds. personally, i think you''re letting what other people like get in the way of what you and your fiancee like...........

People are wrong and RUDE - that is a beautiful diamond! I do think that slimming the bezel would allow the stone to ''pop'' and really show its stuff, but that is something to tweak - the stone itself is just wonderful, so ignore any and all comments from unknowledgeable jerks.

Wow- I love the stone. Congrats

I think you have a really beautiful diamond, and am not just being polite (or trying to make you feel better
2.gif
). If you turn on some tv shopping channels you''ll see a lot of "champagne" diamonds that look like a lot of things, but champagne is not one of them. Unlike yours (which really has a color that reminds of champagne), those are mostly stones of low clarity, icky color (greyish/brownish/something) and no brilliance whatsoever - who buys these things is still beyond me. But, in all honesty, and without any intention of being rude, I have to mention some things. Brown diamonds, and especially champagnes, are generally known for being less expensive than whites. And since we live in a world where you''re not only suppose to be like everybody else, you''re also suppose to follow the norms and always try to buy the most expensive items available. It doesen''t matter if you can afford them or if you like them, but you should just do what is expected, right? And when people see champagne diamonds, they often don''t see their beauty, but the fact that they''re less popular and therefore more modestly (or I''d say more reasonably) priced. I personally love them, especially in two tone or all gold settings, or paired with cognac diamonds for a dramatic contrast. So I say enjoy your ring, modify what you don''t like (I agree that the stone''s beauty would be better brought out with a thinner bezel), and always remember that it''s a symbol of the love you and your future husband feel for eachother.

Yowza, that rock looks like it has some fire!!!
30.gif
And I am SUCH a sucker for yellow gold. I, for one, am jealous!! Hpw many ''poor students'' get a fantastic 1.23 ct diamond as their engagement ring?! Not many!! I love that it''s different! Stuff conformity

You are one lucky chickie!

I love the stone. I think a lot of girls prefer colored stones, because they are so unique and they really are an expression of your personality. maybe your friends are jealous either because they are not engaged, they are unhappy people or they would prefer a colored stone.
Ignore them, it''s a stunning rock!

It''s beautiful and unique, so why would you want a ring that looks like everyone else''s? Don''t change a thing!

The type of people who would make you feel bad about something as important as an engagement ring are NOT the type of people you''d want to impress anyway. Always get what YOU love. I love your ring and so do many here on Pricescope, who honestly, have seen the cream of the crop of rings.

Enjoy your beauty and appreciate it for what it is, something that is to be treasured and not like every other cookie cutter ring out there. Seriously, if you saw that ring in Martha Stewart Wedding magazines it''d pop because of it''s beauty and elegance.

I love your ring. I''d love to see the diamond in real life. Stones that change with light are adorable. You never tire of looking at them. I also really appreciate the story behind your ring. Lovely.

if you are interested in maybe another semi bezel setting with thinner shank,,, WF did mine, the shank is about 3.3mm but you can see how thin the bezel is.. it wasn''t too much mine is 14k yellow gold for I think $375... just a thought

I''m not sure I would make the bezel shorter - How about if you just slimmed the bezelling down? Look at the photo above this post - like that! I would then also make the shank slimmer. That would give a gorgeous delicate look.

that is exactly what i have in mind! i am going to talk to one more jeweler and then if they too say that there is no way i can slim the shank, i''m going to have to order a whole new setting. bummer, because it will be hard to find the two-tone like i have! we will see, and i will keep you all posted.

D&T,
That''s a lovely bezel setting where the sides are so thin. It makes the center stone look bigger and stand out.
