pretty intense.

i went to a few different places with my mom and my friend. i dont'' think i found THE ONE, but it was a good start. I''m having trouble deciding what type of silhouette i want to go for - i like the trumpet skirt/mermaid type dress, but i''m afraid i look too hippy (as in, an excess of hips, not grateful dead hippy). here''s a few that i sorta considered

i felt like a 50''s barbie in this one... and i think it was my favorite (assuming it looks as good in ivory). but again, the hips! i''m not so sure it''s very flattering.

here''s another one (a jasmine) that i liked too....

a farther away one of the second

i like the skirt on this one, but i''m not sure about the dress as a whole. it fit me really poorly, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Hi Mimzy,

I''m glad you found a few dresses you liked. I like the second, non-trumpet dress better, if you''re asking for opinions. I know trumpeted dresses are popular right now but I really think they''ll look dated eventually. This is just my opinion though. Were there any styles you saw that you discovered you particularly love?

pardon my face in this one....

i loved the birdcage veil/bow thing they gave me to try on with this one.....

I love the first one on you! I am biased of course because I love trumpet-y dresses but I think you look great in it and not too hippy at all. You look va-va-voom!

unfortunately...no. i do know what i DON'T like now though - satin, beading, lots of lace, skirts that lay flat, and a-lines in general (as of right now). all i know is that i don't want anything super bridal-y (is that possible?) and i want the skirt to have lots of layers and be really full. i have a feeling it is going to be a LONG hunt.

i did try on a romona keveza dress that was 5k that would have been THE ONE had it not been 5k. it had a slight dropped waist and a really full skirt with really beautiful draping and a sharp sweetheart neckline. i've looked all over and i couldn't find anything even close to that at this time though

My favorite is the first (which I agree with sunny, is va-va-voom! on you) followed closely by the 4th, with the birdcage veil and the slight sweetheart neckline.

When you say you''re looking for something non-bridal, do you mean something more high-fashion? With bolder "accents" than most wedding gowns (unusual fabrics, fluff, etc.)?

Oooo...I love the dress in the last pic you posted! The subtle sweetheart neckline looks fabulous on you!

Also, the reflection in the mirrors behind you makes the train look lovely and long!!!!!

I guess you could say something more high fashion (bold accents, unusual fabrics and fluff all sound good to me! ) but my budget is pretty limited. any suggestions? i like a lot of the demetrios illusions line, but they all seem to have something i'm not crazy about (halter top, etc).i feel like i've looked at every dress there is to see online and in magazines, and nothing has really struck me yet

. i am sort of banking on the idea that i won't know it is the dress for me until i try it on. but so far my opinions of the dresses on the hanger have been the same as the opinions once they are on.

thanks for the comments ladies, i appreciate them!

What kind of a budget are you working with? And does this style fit what you''re looking for?

ebree i adore that skirt! i''m not a huge fan of the asymetrical waistline, but i''m not totally against it. i want to keep it at or under 800 for the dress... which i know is really low but it can be done, right?!?!

Mimzy!! You look amazing in those dresses--with a body like yours you could pull off any trumpeted/mermaid style! I think that if you continue to look and hone in on a particular style, you''ll definitely find something that you''re completely comfortable in and love!! I can definitely relate to wanting something non-bridally with a couture feel and I think your budget will allow for that--places like house of brides have many $1,500+ dresses for less than $1,000 and other sites like bridepower have deeper discounts. You''re going to look great in anything!! Loved the photos!

If you are searching for a dress that looks high fashion, but is reasonably priced, try Mori Lee. I tried on over 25 gowns at 3 different stores before I found "THE" dress!

I did some searching on Mori Lee''s Blu Collection, which seems to be a little bit more contemporary: http://www.morilee.com/Weblu.aspx

Here is one that I thought fit the descriptions of what you are looking for.....

thanks NEL! it''s funny, because your dress was the only dress that i saw in pictures and was like "i want to try on THAT dress". it''s so beautiful with the slim silhouette and long train and gather at the hip. i''ve yet to find a salon that carries it, but i won''t give up until i do!

Here is another....

thanks for looking those up Laura - i really like the skirts on both and i like how they are slim through the hips and then flare out. i'm definitely going to check out some salons in the area that carry mori lee.

I really like the 1st and 4th dresses on you. You don''t look hippy at all in them, just damn fine :)

It looks like you won''t have any trouble finding dresses that are flattering on you! You look SO great in all the dresses. The only one I''m not a fan of is the third one. I think my fave would be the first.

Mimzy - The first dress looks phenomenal on you! I think that it really compliments your lovely figure!

I hope that you find the one you love!

I don''t think the first or second make you look hippy, but I do think that make your stomach look a little big and pooched.
I don''t really love any of the one you tried on but I think you have a great body and can do very well, especially in some of the other ones that were suggested here.

I adore the second dress followed by the first. I definitely don''t think that you look too hippy!

Mimz--You look INCREDIBLE in every single dress! Don''t despair that you haven''t found "the" dress yet--you''ll know it when you put it on, trust me! I''m pretty confident that you''ll find something hat is exactly what you''re envisioning because honey, you are GORGEOUS!

I like the first one the best!!!!!!!! You look gorgeous!!
36.gif

The first does NOT make you look hippy at all! You have a waist and a bust and hips... an hour glass figure! I love that silhouette you.

Really hate the third dress though.

Wow, Mimzy! You''ve wasted NO time! Haha love it.

I like the first dress best on you. Looks wonderful!

thanks for all you input girls! I''m going to keep looking....hopefully i''ll be able to go to enough places over break that i''ll find something a little more thrilling.

brazen hussy - my tummy looks a little big in those because, well, i definitely have one. i felt like a stuffed sausage in the first one when i saw the side view! (hence not posting it!) I don''t think the rouching helped it much.

I actually really like the 3rd one on you. It makes you look small and your waist tiny. The ones that drape across your stomach just seem to emphasize it. I''m sure you''ll find the ONE!
