This 3.57ct topaz was my first gem purchase - I love electric blue, and the high checkerboardy crown reminded me of a French cut. In person, I was kinda surprised by the windowing, I didn't expect that from the vendor pic. But I love the color, so it's ok.

I thought I was clever for buying something with normal-seeming whole-number dimensions (10x7mm) but I was actually an idiot who didn't know about calibrated sizes  so this stone sat around for months while I figured out how to set it.
I'm not big into rings, I actually get more use out of necklaces, so I wanted a low-cost silver pendant setting. Luckily I lurked on PS enough to learn about the vendors in the self-set jewelry thread over in Fashion Jewelry. I took the plunge and requested a custom size, and it worked out perfectly! My setting job could certainly be better, but it seems secure and I think it looks acceptable for a first try. Maybe someday I can refine the fit with more skill and practice.

I had fun with this project and hopefully will have as much fun wearing it. Yay blue :cool2:

I love that color! Electric blue topaz is on my wish list!
Good job!

Great color! Reminds me so much of David Hockney's Splash :-)

So pretty, and great job setting it!

Nice color. I wasn't moved by just the shots of the stone by itself, because of the window, but in that setting with that necklace,!!

It is a lovely necklace! Enjoy your blue beauty.

Beautiful and sure to get noticed. :appl:

It looks fabulous and substantial on your neck, a great choice to make it a pendant! Now please do cross post on the Self-Set Jewelry thread so that you can inspire others :appl:

So chique!!! It looks beautiful on you.

Thank you all for sharing my excitement! PS is the best :kiss2:

Oh I love that analogy! I live in a mid-century modern house kinda like the one in that piece, and I love his aesthetic. California pools are definitely my aesthetic haha.

Totally agree, that played into my desire not to spend too much on a setting. If I buy a pricey stone in future I'm definitely going to request a hand pic from the vendor, because that window seemed blatant in person and nonexistent in the vendor pic  I did choose my pic with the worst window to make my point though haha.
