A local jeweler had a box of opals and I sifted through them and saw this one. In some lights it has a cats eye look with a flaming red eye, and in other lights it is a rainbow (looks just like a prism in the stone). Its really cool. I paid 25$ for it, and I am going to have it made into a pendent for my mom's x mas gift.

.3cts, natural opal, origin unknown (if you have an idea, lemme know! LOL). Its small, but is clear and has really cool colors!

I have heard of rubbing opals with baby oil to keep them from crazing. Is this a good idea?

I know nothing about opals, but I think it's beautiful!

I love opals!
I think yours is very pretty!
Don't you love turning them this way and that, to catch the different colors?

Wow! The color on that opal is unreal. Love it. I can't photograph mine to save my life! What shape is it? Looks kiteish.

Another fan of Opals here! Yours looks very much like a water or jelly opal (they're called both) and tend to be from Mexico but you can get them from different locations. They happen to be my most favourite of all opals. A great buy!

Don't rub oil into the stone. Opals take water from the skin which helps them to stay moisturised. Just make sure that the Opal is worn often and then it shouldn't craze or crack. Don't actually immerse in water though!

Very pretty! Aren't you in MI? I'm wondering where you bought your opal.
