Hi guys I'm a long time lurker and a first time poster.
So here goes, I'm an Australian and my Bf is a Punjabi Indian and our relationships are very different as his culture/religion(Sikh) doesn't believe in the dating stage of relationships they have arranged marriages so there is no such thing as engagements even there is a love marriage between Indians they are to marry straight away. Was quite interesting telling him the western traditions of engagement. His family live in India and he did as well until 3 years ago and are ok with us being together but they wish us to be married ASAP. Our relationship is the same as any other for now but as he is 26 now he is "supposed" to be married with kids by now which has fast tracked our engagement. I'm not complaining as I'm madly in love with V he is everything i ever imagined in a husband he is perfect  . So here we are a fast tracked relationship we live together(only together 6 months) and ring shopping, because if you know Indian family's they don't like their sons marrying "westerners" so i feel lucky enough to be able to be with him let alone spend my life with him so I am following his traditions as much as possible to make his family happy.
I guess im just the typical girl who has always dreamed of the perfect guy, perfect engagement and perfect wedding. Not only do i have to perfect guy i've explained the perfect engagement  but i will be having two weddings, one in India and one here :D.

I hope you've enjoyed my story

Congrats! It sounds like you two have it made. My parents were arranged in a way--they "dated" for about a month. Really it was a way for them to get to know each other and then tied the knot. They were happily married fro 32 years before my father passed away.
Please post pictures when you do get married in the wedding forum! Punjabi weddings are so beautiful!

Congrats on finding the man of your dreams!

I can't wait to see the wedding pictures...there's nothing like an Indian wedding with all the colours and everything! They are BEAUTIFUL!

Congratulations! And what an exciting time it must be for you right now! Where abouts in Australia are you and where will you live once you are married?

congratulations! i'm not even indian and I'd like an indian wedding!

Yeah he is amazing. :-)
We both live in Brisbane at the moment and hopefully we will stay here and visit India maybe once a year because i don't know Punjabi yet and his mum can't speak English. Yeah the Punjabi wedding will be beautiful apparently the dress will weight a lot and cost a fortune (Google Sikh wedding dress) :? so we will probably just have a small Aussie wedding just so i can wear the all important white dress :D but it will be worth it in the end.

britlee it takes a strong, generous woman to so embrace a very different culture, I applaud you for being so open-minded and ready to share his culture, whilst still holding your own traditions dear :))

learning punjabi? I wish you luck, I've yet to learn to read and write tamil and it's what much of my family only speaks!
