Hello all,

I'm going to purchase the .8 carat round diamond for the e-ring and wanted to make sure before making a purchase..

Carat weight:0.80
Certificate:GIA
Color:G Clarity: VS2 Cut: Excellent
Depth %:62.20
Girdle: Slightly Thick
Table %:56.00
Culet:None Polish:Excellent
Crown ∠: 34.00 Symmetry:Excellent
Pavilion ∠:41.00 L/W/D (mm): 5.91*5.94*3.68
Flourescent: none

HCA score is 1.4 but Scintillation and Spread is very good, not excellent. Price is $4,200.
Is this a good purchase? The diamond is from James Allen and looks eye-clean.

Racoon, loooks like its a beautiful diamond! However, our preference is a diamond with no flourescence.

Might I ask why no fluorescence? Some people have heard bad things about the phenomenon or other people have been misinformed by some less scrupously members of the industry. It is an awesome phenomenon, which should not be thrown out, without adequate consideration. Fluorescence is a prerequisite in all stones that I purchase, so you can see that preferences vary widely!

That being said, here is a similarly-sized stone to the one you're looking at, with better color, better cut, and a lower price, containing no fluorescence:

.748ct, F, SI1

I heard that fluorescence in a diamond does not make G or above color diamond any whiter but may cause it to look hazy. Is this true?

No.

It *is* possible that on VERY rare occasions, fluorescence can make a stone appear milky/hazy. GIA tried to find these hazy stones, but couldn't even find enough in their sample of over 26,000 diamonds.

If you are working with a trusted vendor (Good Old Gold, High Performance Diamonds, Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, and more), they will be able to determine if fluor has any negative impact on a particular stone.

Brian Gavin's Blue stones are all vetted by an expert to be sure there are no negative effects from fluorescence. These are hand-selected to show no negative effects, so the issue is not even relevant in BG Blues.
