Deep breath. mmmmmm, OK, so I really didn''t put a great deal of effort or thought into dress shopping. It was sort of my way of dealing with the fact that I can''t just wear black pants. The dress is just looking dated to me. Not loving the pleated waist, but wonder if it was unpleated if it would be weird with the beading on the top. I like the detailing and that it makes me look ladylike..which is hard with my height and shoulders...but now I''m having real doubts. Does everyone have this? Am I the biggest idiot for not stressing the dress more earlier? The wedding is at the end of May...am trying to remain calm. is this panic normal?

What''s wrong with it honey? It looks like a really lovely gown. Not dated. I like it. Honestly.

I think it looks wonderful. Not dated at all. Don''t worry!

I think it looks gorgeous and timeless - and really suits you.

I don''t think I''ve seen that dress before. It''s gorgeous and it doesn''t look dated at all. I LOVE it!

Get your hair and makeup done, and then try it on again! It''s a beautiful dress.

I agree, it''s a very timeless look and you look gorgeous!

It definitely doesn''t look dated to me. It''s looks beautiful! I love the detail at the front.

Gypsy speaks only the truth; don''t worry, she''d tell you in a New York minute what was wrong

In this case, for that dress, I agree whole heartedly with Gypsy!! It''s my favourite style currently

LOL. This is true. I''m probably one of the few people on here that would tell you... two months to the wedding if I hated your gown and that you should start looking around. In fact, I think I did that to someone the other day. Told them to start hitting the sample racks as the gown was just not right.

Rest assured. It''s lovely. Pleating, sash, beading and all. If you aren''t happy with the way the skirt is flaring you can try a fuller petticoat and see if that helps you feel better about it-- it might make your waist look smaller (which is small enough as it is, but it would emphasize it more). But truly, it''s a lovely gown.

Heh, I hear you on the wearing black pants. I told my mother she was lucky I didn''t get married in jeans. Anyway, I love it. I like the simplicity of the silhouette with the details of the beading just on the bodice, and the sash giving it a little extra oomph. I agree with Sumbride-try it on again with your jewelry and veil (if you''re wearing one) and your hair up, and you''ll look fantastic.

(PS-Your arms make me SOOO wish I was still rowing! Jealous!

OK, I''ve calmed down. Food helped. and your insight. Thanks, I know Gypsy would have told me to start over if it had to be re-done. Sumbride, that is an EXCELLENT suggestion, misysu2, pandora, lar, zoe, bee, isabel, thank you for taking the time to be positive. It could be just nerves...yet the sash meets in the back in a V, it just reminded me of when i had jeans with a sort of flat V front, with pleats below, very high waisted, so cool in 5th grade (yeah, I''m 31), but not so hip today. And I guess I''m afraid that some of my family members will hate it...because if its not spendy, then its not "good" to those individuals. mmm, but that is their prob, not mine.

Selkie, thanks! i''m sorta self conscious about the arm/back muscles so that is super sweet. I''m cool with not being "cute" but this idealized wedding thing is sorta hard when one''s look is more vintage t-shirt than ethereal beauty. well, we all have our inner beauty!

Thanks, i''m calming down and getting OK with the dress.

I think its lovely too, and that you look lovely in it. I love how it has just enough detail but doesn''t seem overdone at all. I think you will be a lovely bride

Thank you AG!
So, am being less critical now, but its crunch time for the fitting really as I want my poor mom to have to deal with it on the flight and get it steamed before I get there days before the wedding.

Questions: Did your dress look a bit dingy after alterations? I sort of think it needs to be cleaned on the front, but wonder if dry cleaning would take off some beading...

Here is the back, got some more pics from my friend''s cam. I like this top part, but the bustle seems wrong and I''d love to get some suggestions on how to make it look less wonky.

I just really dislike this. To the point that I''m wondering about cutting off the pink train things.
Would doing another tuck look better? The bustle that is there is just a little snap, the fabric is really light. I''m not worried about having a big booty, but this somehow shortens me, which is quite a feat as i''m 5''10"... So, bustle more? Whack it off? Calm down and ignore it? Stay seated so its not an issue (just kidding, i''m going to be dancing up a storm!)

Thank you! My bm thinks I''m insane for questioning and my sister hates it for other reasons.

Please darling ladies, speak now, or hold your peace. I have to let the alterations lady (who has already gotten a good chunk of cash) know what to do to the back of this to make it "right" by Friday afternoon. Please help! I just am not feeling OK with it and my plan now is to cut of the pinkish part after the ceremony. Is that the right thing to do? Below is what it looks like unbustled, above is bustled.
I''m focusing all my stress on this dress, my best bud said that I just am not familiar enough with bustles to understand what they are supposed to look like...who on earth is "familiar with bustles?" I figure someone here can please help. Thank you!

Awe, Swimmer, I''m sorry you aren''t happy with it. The dress looks gorgeous when it is unbustled, but I have to admit, that when it was bustled in the pic, it just didn''t look right. I''m so sorry that I can''t figure out what is wrong with it, I don''t think that it''s the TYPE of bustle, it just doesn''t look like it''s done right. Have you tried looking at it with a traditional bustle, where you would pick up the train somewhere in the middle and attach it right under the butt? I can''t picture what your dress would look like with that. Or is it possible to take it to someone else to do the bustle? Hopefully someone else will have better ideas! (and if you don''t get responses, try starting a new thread...I almost didn''t read this because I know I had read the original a while ago...I know, I know, I''m just bad at keeping up with threads)

Hmmm, yeah, that bustle doesn''t look quite right. I have to admit though, I have no idea what would look better but I have a suggestion. Actually two.

1) Leave the back down, as pictured. It would be a very nice train (but again, if you actually want to bustle it after the ceremony, I can''t help you there).

2) Cut off the train and have the sash (it is a sash, right?) shortened to the same length as the dress. No train to worry about.

To me it seems like maybe the top "fold" of the sash/bustle is too long. Have you seen this website? http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/Bustles.htm It shows a bustle for a dress with a long sash/ribbon type thing like you have (go down to the Sashes and Other Draping Designs section) and you can see what I''m talking about in terms of having the top fold be shorter. I know you don''t have a bow on yours like the one in the photo, but maybe the bustle could end up being some kind of a bow thing and that might make it seem to flow more.

Sorry, I''m not that familiar with bustles but I do agree that something seems off. Maybe you can a better idea for the bustle from that link. Good luck!

I think you should probably take the train thing off and keep the pleaty sash bit.

I''m being brutally honest here, so I hope that''s what you are after - otherwise, sorry!

I agree it looks funky.

What if you leave it the way it is but add an extra bustle--I don''t know how to describe what I''m saying...Let me look to paint or photoshop and see if I can kind of draw it.

Ok. This is an awful drawing but maybe it kind of gets the point across-basically you bustle it so that there would be two layers of folds instead of the big funky long one?

And the awful drawing is from the side...

Does this make any sense?

Okay. I REALLY love the gown. But the bustle is all wrong. It''s just wrong. Can you find Amsale sash Dress Bustle pics on the knot or somewhere (I''d look but just don''t have time right now)... I KNOW there are MUCH better bustle options out there for that style of gown.

http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.htm?profilename=AmsaleGownBio HERE. The champage sash gown... they bustled the sash too so it really looks lovely in the back. Have her do something like this.

Wow, that bustle looks MILES better than the current one! I agree, go with this one!!

LOL I think that''s what Freke was trying to draw. That looks good!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I am so grateful that you all took the time to help. I was with Pandora till Freke! and then Gypsy! I''ve never seen a bustle like that, so gorgeous, I thought dresses could have those sort of pick-ups, mmmm, how to do that? I wonder if it is possible? I love that photo! Even if it needs to be fixed like that for good, not just as a bustle, its a great idea. Mmm, I wonder if/how it has been stiffened up...

Whew! Thank you so much lovely ladies, I had faith that PS would pull through.

You can do that kind of bustle with hooks and eyes or ribbon ties. It''s not "stiff", it''s just "caught up". And yes, you NEED this kind of bustle on your dress!!! I adore that Amsale bustle. ADORE it!

I think it is beautiful, and that''s the honest truth.

I''d tell you if I thought it looked dated.

I love the bustle Gypsy posted, and I get what Freke was trying to show you.

I think that is much more flattering than how it was shown in your picture.

Maybe you should be drinking that wine you offered Zoe in the other thread...I''ll join you!
