I know that w/ floures. it helps to make yellowish diamonds WHITER, but
to gemologists out there, is it "a good thing?"

I ask this because I am considering (?) going to a G or H (probably will still try for a D E or F, I love WHITE diamonds - icy white)
and want it to look white...

I have an I diamond and it has a TON of FLoures. and when my jeweler
told me it was like it was "a bad thing."

Please clarify.

In the context of a re-sale the market might require a small discount, or not.

However, for your particular diamond, you should be able to answer the question of whether or not the fluorescence bothers you in any lighting condition.

Satisfying the market does not need to equate to personal satisfaction.

If you want a D color diamond, then ask for one with fluorescence, it will be slightly less expensive and as long as the stone is not an over blue (will look oily and horrible in the sunlight) it will look wonderful! I much prefer a fluorescent stone, especially one with enough fluorescence to look ever so slightly blue out of doors, what we used to call blue whites in the trade before the term was so abused by those selling yellow stones that fluoresced that the FTC banned the term all together.

Thirty years ago we paid a strong premium for such stones, then that got reversed during the investment craze. Don't know why they still penalize a stone for looking more incredible, but they do...

Wink

P.S. Short answer: No this is NOT a bad thing.
