Hello everyone. I noticed that many people around PS have recently lost pets (not just in the past few weeks but over the last six months or so). My heart goes out to each and every one of you in your time of grief. I know that many of you know what an animal lover I am, and it just breaks my heart to read these stories.

Please don''t let anyone minimize or belittle your grief at this time - you are entitled to grieve as much as you feel you need to. After all, for many of us, our pets are beloved family members who have given us love and fidelity for many years at a time.

Anyway, I wanted to make this post because I found a good resource that I thought people might find helpful - there is information about support groups in the SF Bay Area, as well as links to web pages, books, and articles dealing with the grieving process for loss of a pet. I posted this same link in the threads for Harleigh and Scarleta, but wanted to post it here in the hopes that someone else may find it helpful.

Amber, you are very caring and very thoughtful for making this post.

movie zombie

ps having lost two lovely cats in 2007 and another two the beginning of this year, and nursing another sick kitty right now, i can say that it is too painful to respond to each and every posters thread re ailing pets or the death of pets: but please know that my thoughts are with you all. i find the best healing takes place by allowing myself to feel the pain, admit the pain, and honor the pain in some symbolic way. but the best way is to continue to love.

Amber, that is so thoughtful and kind of you. I will be checking out the link for sure, thank you.

Movie Zombie - I am so sorry to hear about your losses and your continuing difficulty with your kitty's illness. That must be devastating. I completely understand what you are saying about those in pain having limited capacity to post and to respond to each and every posting made on their threads. I really didn't expect anyone to respond to this post, I just wanted to put this resource out there in the hopes that someone would find it helpful. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your sick kitty at this time.

Lorelei - I'm so sorry (again) about your horse. I can only imagine how deep the bond must have been there with their long lifespans, and how difficult it must have been for you to lose her. I really hope the link has some useful information or resources for you. I volunteer at this shelter and have never known them to be anything but incredibly wonderful and helpful in all issues pet-related, and so I am hoping that this is the same.

AG, thank you so much for sharing this with everyone. Though it is always a sad subject, you have been a huge support to all of us, and I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your taking the time to care about all of us who have recently lost one of our dear loved ones. People like you make PS a wonderful place to love, laugh, cry, grieve, or whatever we need to do, and not feel bad about it. Thanks for your continued understanding...you are one of the kindest ladies I have ever come across.

Much love,
