I''ve had this idea for a couple of weeks that maybe the theme to our invitations could be our silhouettes. Just like our heads and shoulders facing each other. I was thinking about having us kissing but thought it might be a little cheesy. I thought the silhouettes would be cute and kinda old-fashioned and maybe we could carry it over to the reception, like have the same silhouettes on the table numbers and/or the name cards.

So last night I was browsing through brides.com and I found a wedding with the exact same idea!! I think I''ll make our cards just ivory with maybe a little bit of pink around the border or something, but I''m excited that I think I picked a motif. Yay!

Oh and for anyone who might remember my ugly plate freak-out last week, I have decided to just ignore it and go ahead with my original idea of black, white and pink. I''ll pare back on the the black a bit more than I had originally planned, but I had this idea in my mind and I still think it will work out fine. Plus we are still hoping the family friend can strong-arm the coordinator into letting us rent dishes

forgot to post the pic....

Cute idea. I would not make them kissing. It would be hard to understand the image (since it will be all black) also some people might feel uncomfortable. We used a kissing pic for our thank you cards and my own grandmother threw hers away!!!

Oh well, I thought it was a cool, arty pic... but people are funny.

hahaha well our STDs had a stylized picture of FI and I kissing...so if people are going to be offended at least we''ve already gotten that over with!!

yeah, i don''t think I''ll do the silhouettes kissing, it would be a little much. i do like how in the picture they made little white dots for the girl''s earrings and necklace and the white shirt on the guy.

we are having a graphic designer friend do our invites, I''m thinking something like this wouldn''t be too difficult at all, as long as I just provide him with a profile shot of each of us. any of you graphics designers have any insights as to whether this will be difficult or relatively easy for him?

Karasue, I love it! I''m glad you''re sticking with the black, pink and white. It''s going to be awesome!

I''m using silhouettes for my Orders of Service.

I hired a silhouette cutter for an event I did last autumn - I swear I really hadn''t thought of wanting some of FI and I when I booked the guy...

I tried to book him for my wedding to cut silhouettes of all the guests - but he was already booked up.

I scanned the cut-outs, and then traced them off in CorelDraw. Black looked a bit harsh, so I''ve gone with a grey (but that may change).

Here are the silhouettes:

oops, pressed submit not attach file...

Here''s the inside pages of the order of service - the outside has our monogram on.

I couldn''t believe she threw it away! Actually I am a graphic designer and think it would be fairly easy to do. I am sure your friend will do a great job

Pandora, I love that!!!! What exactly did you need to do when the silhouette cutter made them? As in, did he take a photo of you and create the silhouettes from that? Or was it like a light projector where he traced the outline of your profile from your shadow?

Neither, I literally stood still for 90 seconds and he cut it out of black paper.

He was incredible - His name is Charles Burns, his website is: www.roving-artist.com

I was in awe, he did about 80 people and they are incredibly realistic. FI and I do actually look like our silhouettes. I would love to be able to do something like that.

He cuts through two pieces at the same time one black, one white - he keeps the white one and you get the black one in a nice card.

We have them framed at home - what was really weird was that FI''s grandmother sent us a parcel for xmas and in it was a framed silhouette of his grandfather (who died when he was 12) when he was a small boy - he looks spookily like FI. She had no idea we had just had ours done.

I am so sad I can''t get him for our wedding. I thought it would be a great guestbook idea to have everyones silhouettes and signatures underneath. I''m looking for another one - but he is the best in the UK.

I actually did a google search for silhouette cutters and he was the first artist to come up! Too bad when I searched for them in Calgary all that came up were cartoonists

Oh well, hopefully it will be easy for our friend to just turn our profiles into silhouettes. If not, I''ll be getting out the flashlight and big construction paper and tracing FI''s mug on the wall!!

So excited!

I was also going to suggest having someone make the silhouettes of all your guests...it would be really cool to have them fill out a sort of "guestbook card" to then attach in an able next to their silhouette...just a thought.

I do silhouettes of my students every year, and they turn out so cool...I think it would be fantastic at a wedding. Have you considered contacting a local art student that might want to earn some extra money for a day? I just use an overhead projector against my whiteboard and then we trace it onto black paper and wa-lah, a silhouette is born!

Good luck and I can''t wait to see what you end up doing!

I found this blog I really like awhile back. They wrote an article on a place called Fontaine Maury that does silhouette stationary.

I think martha stewart weddings or something like that has a resource for making cookie cutters from your sillhouttes as well!
