Fragrance of the Day Thread

Just curious, is anyone here familiar with vintage (say 1960s) Arpege? Given my love of No. 5, I'm thinking I would probably like it, but I've never smelled it.

Anty thoughts?

Has anyone tried Parfums de Marly Delina?

If you find an unspoiled older bottle, it can be lovely and has lots of similarities to No5 but are NOT dead ringers. The aldehydes in both for me are enough to blow my hair back though...:lol-2: I've only found one bottle that didn't smell off to somewhat off, but it was also parfum.

Not this one. I have smelled a few from this house though. I found them to be not worth the prices they were asking.

Today I'm wearing a concaphoni of scent:

Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs Parfum
and
Guerlain Eau de Cologne du 68

Colgone du 68 and LeParfum du 68 DO smell different enough though they are sides of the same coin. the EDP is heavy on the immortelle and tonka where as Cd68 is a lighter affair. Both IMO work with any scent that is neroli or orange flower based but time of year can play a part on when that will work best.

Matter of fact, tried LPd68 last week and I thought i was getting wiffs of smelled maple bacon...lol

SOTD Andrea Maack Sharp. My favorite of the bunch is Smart but Sharp is a nice change. Sweet not too sweet, vanilla, musk and floral and orange. I like it very much.

I have not tried this but searched the notes and it sounds like a lovely combo. Notes:Bergamot, lychee, rhubarb, nutmeg, Turkish rose, vanilla, musk, Haitian vetiver, cedar, frankincense, cashmeran.

And such a pretty bottle. Worth ordering a sample perhaps?

It's lovely - and definitely a must try if you love No. 5. The prices are also fairly tame due to the popularity of it in the past. Also worth noting is that the current formulation is lovely, but nothing like the vintage. It was once a grand perfume with aldehydes and flower - it's not a peachy-floral, not as sophisticated, but still good (in the same vein as, say, Tresor).

Testing Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa. It's alright after the cigaretty opening dies down. I can smell that creamy almost pungent Atelier Cologne accord that's in many of their scents which I can't quite identify.

Notes sound promising and what a pretty bottle!

Thanks ladies! I might try a sample as I've heard good things about this one, if I do, I'll report back.
SO many niche to try.

Today I'm wearing the 2017 Miss Dior EDP. It hasn't been greeted with cries of joy yet going by the reaction of the Miss Dior faithful, I think it's nice but not groundbreaking, but sometimes just a pleasant scent is what you want.

I really loved Miss Dior Cherie when it first came out with the strong caramel and strawberry notes. I was soooo annoyed when the discontinued it and brought it back as Miss Dior. I still like the current Miss Dior EDP but wish they kept Miss Dior Cherie as well!

I love Beige too and have the enormous vat, I must dig it out, I probably will later.

Started off with No 5 Eau Premiere.

Chanel beige. Safe choice, nice & pleasant. 250 ml vat , so I'm spraying away..

Isn't it delicious when you have the perfume you love in abundance or as I like to say "in abbondanza"
It's a peaceful calm feeling not having to worry about running out of one's favorite perfume anytime soon.
Spraying with happy abandon.
:))

Yes! I'm always getting nervous when I only have a tiny bit left.
I think it's my first experience with my signature scent getting axed (Lalique, the original in a teal box). They then brought it back and it was much paler, not as deep. SA s everywhere claimed it was only repackaged in a white box. I was 25 and questioning myself /my nose . They talked to me like I was CRAYCRAY. So frustrating. I started hoarding BUBs of the old stuff... the beginning of the a serious BUB habit...

Ah. Thank you. That's helpful. From all the reviews I knew it was an aldehydic floral, which seem to be favorites of mine. And Tresor is one of my staples, so I can't help but think I'd love it.

I know everyone here is into samples and new stuff, and I've done some of it and will likely do more. But it seems I'm going down the vintage road at present. Everyone knows I love No 5, so since I have the 60s-70s vintage EDC and EDT, I decided to attempt a round-out of my collection. I'm waiting on delivery of what looks to be a 1950s - 60s extrait. If it's a fake, it's the best fake I've ever seen, but we shall see. So far it ticks all the boxes - both the pictures, and the type of seller I have had the best luck buying perfume from: someone who sells a whole bunch of other stuff and has a few bottles of perfume mixed in. Anyway, it's supposed to arrive on Friday. I'll let you guys know either the agony or the ecstasy. ;-)

Oh, and if it's the ecstasy, the seller has what appear to be a couple of decently priced 60s vintage bottles of Arpege. I might snag one. :)

I know, the old reformulation issue. Customers know when their favourite has been altered or decimated beyond all recognition.:angryfire:

That's why I have many backups of Habanita EDT, it's discontinued now so I wanted to make sure I had a lifetime supply, plus I got it cheap.

Personally, I go through phases. Where I like to wear what I know and love and then phases where I am in sampling mode. It all depends. Enjoy your vintage perfumes. I always love those. Hope your latest delivery this Friday doesn't disappoint. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Whaaaa Habanita EDT is discontinued? I have a bottle of either EDT or EDP from few years ago and I know the two are really different. I have a feeling the one I have is the EDT....it is the one w a gold cap and the slimmer black bottle. :(2

Another one that's been discontinued that I found about is Miller Harris Fleur Oriental....only have a little bit left and couldn't find it at discounters, nor on the official Miller Harris website. Which sucks bc I find that it's similar to Shalimar miNus that strong bergamot opening. Found two bottles on Ebay but vvv overpriced and ships from Greece or something. I am never buying fragrance from Greece because I am scared it won't clear customs....

So periodically I search on Ebay for discontinued old favs. Last night I was reminded of Miss Dior Cherie EdP so went hunting for it. There are two or three bottles available but priced over $300. It's been like that since it became reformulated in 2011 then later discontinued. I really like it but would rather have an Amouage at that price...

Is the "new" Miss Dior not the same as the old Cherie?

Such a dumb marketing move - renaming fragrances the same as previous ones. YSL just did it with Y. Guerlain does it constantly. Why do they want to confuse their customers?

Speaking of Guerlain - I was there the other day, and apparently they have a reward program (?) The lady said I had enough points for a bottle of Meteorites. I was surprised because I thought they had discontinued Meteorites. Nope! It's a roomspray now. Smells pretty much the same.

SOTD: Micallef's Note Vanillee. Sexy, sweet, smoky, dark and boozy.

It's one of those now commanding huge prices, but to me Miss Dior is the now called Originale.

Dane, it's not the same, the old Cherie was discontinued in 2012 I think and replaced by Miss Dior EDP which is a bit like Flowerbomb or Coco Mademoiselle EDP to my nose.

They changed it again last year and Miss Dior's now a syrupy woody rose, it's nice but nothing unusual about it.

I liked Meteorites, now it's a room spray??

Today I'm wearing Monda di Orio Tubereuse.

My all-time favorites: Chanel No.5, Prada "Iris", Alexander McQueen Parfum For Her, and the one I'm wearing today is Valentino "Donna" :)

Today, for some reason, I'm not wearing nuttin'. I have no idea why I was so indecisive to the point of zip this morning but I was.

So I idly go out to check the status of my No 5, that was estimated to be here Friday, and I find it's out for delivery! Here! TODAY!!!:o

I sometimes wonder if they've got Harry Potteresque apparating devices worked out. Fast. Really fast.

The suspense is killing me. I should have good/bad news for you guys soon.

Oh, and hi Blingalingaling (that WILL be shortened to Bling very soon I'm certain ;-) )

Welcome to the little perfume corner of PS. We've got some really knowledgeable people here. (I'm NOT one of them)
