Update:

Here is the finalized stone ratio for rounds to pears. Please keep in mind that there will be 8 RB's in total, with 2 pears. When they were photographing the rounds and pears with the sapphire, they kept tipping over so they grabbed the best shot they could.

But this gives an idea of the size of the 2 pears (.30s) versus the 8 rounds (.08s) and the sapphire (7.6mm dia)

Looks wonderful!!! Thanks for the updates. That is a gorgeous sapphire, and you still haven''t seen it in person. This has to be incredibly difficult for you, but it is so neat to see how this is moving along.

Wow....I just about fell out of my chair!!!!

OK so I got the CADs.

They've done a pretty good job of interpreting my concepts. The only thing I really don't like is the transition at the point of the pear into the yellow gold.

I want that to be much less obtrusive, and blend upwards to the pear gently with a soft transition, not a big wonky prong at the end of the pear in YG.

(the only reason for the YG is in deference to my original ER - I don't want to see it from the top side....

And, I want the prongs on the sapphire to be dainty claws, not the regular ones as in the dwgs.

So we're close. I'm not ecstatic but really the only thing bothering me is the transition from WG to YG at the pear tips.

(this cad dwg also has a really cruddy dark sapphire: nothing NEARLY as nice as mine, IMHO that is!)

Thank you SDL. I guess the only thing throwing off my excitement is the heavy transition between YG and the platinum head. Once that is redone so it''s much more delicate, and the prong at the point of the pear is also platinum, I think I''ll be good.

we''re pretty close...

I see what you mean about the YG. The transition is a little abrupt, isn''t it? But really, it''s going to be a stunning ring.

I can''t wait for pictures!!!

Thank you Princess.

I''ve instructed them to redo that element, making sure that there is no YG prong at the end of the pear. I want the YG to come up underneath, with a soft, delicate transition to the platinum.

Other than that, it''s pretty close to what I sent them. So we''re on track.

LS, I wonder how it would look if they had the YG go straight in and not curved up, with a fish-tail prong at the end of the pear? That might make the transition more subtle. Other than that it is going to be sooooo gorgeous!

It''s going to be a beautiful ring. Getting excited again for you!

Hey CatMom: you and I are on the same page. I tried to find some pics to explain that to them, hopefully they can understand what I mean....

If you know of any rings with that design element, can you point me to them so I can get the pics?

I think other than that I''m really good with it. It is far more fluid than I expected: I was afraid to open it up and get this hard-edged structural thingie....

(and of course, THEIR sapphire isn''t nearly as nice as Jeff White''s!)

Catmom: I found one from an old thread: this would look much better.

LostSapphire this is going to be a beauty but I see what you mean. Remember the CADS are way bigger than in real life but I think it does need a tweak.

It will be absolutely beautiful!!! About the prongs: Just remember that CAD drawings don''t usually show finished prongs, so they always look huge. But I agree about the transition, something smoother/daintier would be fab!

Thank you Katebar.

I was prepared to be really disappointed, so I''m actually pretty pleased. I have yet to even speak to Joe, everything he''s done is based on 3rd hand info from Lesley and my e-mails. So he''s done really well.

Thank you NF:

I must take this opportunity to give you 100% of the credit for my purchase of the sapphire from Jeff White. It was YOUR asscher that started it all! thank you for that!

I think the prongs will be fine. And, Catmom had a good suggestion for the transition that would work a lot better.

We're pretty close. I was a bit disappointed when I first opened the pic but am feeling good about it now. Just a little *tweaking*.

Aww...well I am so flattered. Really. Your ring is just going to be stunning. And I wouldn''t worry at all about the prongs, look up some more CAD images and then the finished product and the finished piece is always much much daintier.

Thank you for chronicle-ing (sp?) your ring experience! I''ve been lurking/reading avidly, and the finished product will be stunning. I''m so excited for you! The photos of the stones have been just mesmerizing. Very, very good choices. Can''t wait to see it on your hand!

Thanks to all of you for (unwittingly) pointing me to Jeff White. After 8 years together, dear BF has finally started talking rings, and I''d really like a sapphire to commemorate his late mother (I also happen to think they''re pretty darn cool!) I think I''m just going to point him to Jeff and WF and say "work yer magic!"

Cad images are great for giving you an idea of how you want your ring put together, but they can never seem to capture the little details the way that you want them to. Personally, I do like the v-tips on the end of the pears. I think they will flow much more delicately than what the cad image is showing. ...... This ring is going to be REMARKABLE when it is finished!!!

LS if they don''t change the shank to a fishtail would it be worth asking them to tip the V prong in platinum so when viewed from the top it''s all white?

Hi everyone.

I have been in touch with WF and they are going to work out a different option for the prong detail on the pear.

What I''m not fussed about is that the 1 prong on the end of each pear is YG, while the rest of the prongs are plat. I''m also not ecstatic about how the shank swoops up to meet the pear. So I''ve sent them a few pics and they''re going to rework that little bit.

All in all, I think they have really captured the sense of scale and proportion of sapphire to diamonds that I was looking for. The gallery is absolutely perfect, and the prongs will be fine too.

So tomorrow we''ll sort out that little detail then hopefully we''re good to go.

Thank you all for your input: it was hard to put my finger on what wasn''t perfectly *right* about it, but we seem to have sorted that out.

Have a great day.

Oh LS [you really need to change your name now!], you must be so excited! How long will it take once the CADs are approved?

Probably 2-3 weeks tops!

Yeah, I''ll change it to "FS" ie: FoundSapphire!!

Tomorrow, WF has arranged for a conference/internet session, where I log into their CAD guys'' pc and he''ll draw on the screen to show me what he''s thinking. I can then in "real time" give him input.

How''s that for "Customer Service"??? Amazing people there.

YAY LS! I wanna watch too! Sounds exciting! I bet you can''t wait...
