Although it may be obvious to you, it's not to me...by and large, are we men or women on Pricescope?

It seems at least a bit ironic to me that, for the piece I just posted under Proposal Ideas, taken from today's feature on MSN -- 50 ways to Propose -- that it was featured by the division of MSN called: MSN for Women!

So, which is it...are we cooks or gourmands. Also, note, both to be politically correct, as well as inclusive, I've included the category of "other" below, which may be used liberally (and of course, any comments you choose to add are invited):

OTHER???????????????????

Other clearly includes Hermaphrodites (and a fraction of a% of the population is thus). I suspose it could also include people who have had sex change operations. Afterall - who/what are they....

Other - funny - sometimes it really isn''t clear what gender someone is from their postings. Some are obvious. Some are not.

Let me guess: guys buy, propose and go... ladies receive ring, get hooked on the weed and stay

now the ladies ahead 4-1 .come on you guys lets go.

In all fariness I suspect that what happens is that many Guys spend years paying off their loan for the engagement ring, and arn''t that interested after buying the engagement ring.

Also consider that there is an old description of the difference between guys and gals. Guys are "hunters" - once they decide what they want - they go and get it (and there is no use wasting time looking for things you are not going to get). Gals are shoppers - and spend hours looking at things just to figure out what they want.

There is actually some truth to the descriptions when applied to a group of gals and guys (individueal may be different).

I think many women end up hanging out here after they have received their rings. We''ve made friends through the process and we want to support them in the bling quests.

I think a good number of us enjoy helping out the guys who come and go - the stories of their "hunts" for bling are quite sweet.

For some of us, this may be what sports are to some guys, ya know?

Well..I''m one of those gals that continue to hang out even though I already have my ering. You really do become part of an extended family.

Also, the other categories on here are quite helpful..the jewelry, colored stones, health-home-family, etc. Plus I still have a wedding band to scour for

I think this is right on target, but it goes even deeper. I have been on the 'net's diamond forums for years, now, (first Diamond Talk for a few years and now Pricescope for another few years). I have watched some people go from searching for a ring through a proposal and a wedding and into parenthood. I received a Christmas card this year from Notre Dame Newbie, NDN, who came on-line while he was a college student looking for a ring with which to propose to his girlfriend (love of his life). Now he has a real job! (Actually, he is very successful.) And his daughter is wearing a jumper and blouse in the photo he sent and may, now, be in pre-school!

I love gems, but if it were not for my friendships I don't think I would spend time here. I would just approach a jeweler when I needed something!

if the guy needs yrs to pay off the e-ring,he shouldn''t of spent that much in the first place, why get in debt over a ring ?

well, it is now ladies over gents by a margin of 4 to 1... but I would like to know just who is the one ''other''?!?!?!?!?

I REALLY hope "other" refers to a couple--not a man or a woman!

Yes, it's true, Websailor is a guy - LOL.

I'm not sure I'd say I hang out here, but I do have fun reading a lot of the topics. And I do love seeing all the beautiful jewelry. The psychological aspects of PS are fascinating.

I don't mind the 4 to 1 ratio (currently as of this post) at all.... Reminds me of a quip from Top Gun...."a target rich environment".

Hhhhmmm, "taken" is a loaded word! LOL...

cflutist knows I''m a rascal.... she just doesn''t understand why men flirt with women. I''ve tried to educate her on my theory that women are an alien species that crash landed their spaceship on earth and couldn''t repair it. Men, who were living in caves at that time, eating huge hunks or red meat roasted over open fires, and wearing animal skins, were helpless and couldn''t fix the spaceship. (duh!). But they found each other highly attracted to each other....

(I''ll have you know I came up with this theory before the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus)

Anyway, that sounds better than the real reason - I find women of all kinds to be fascinating - not just in looks (which I do appreciate - reference the diamonds on Tanya Bank''s photo here on PS), but also their talking. While I didn''t post, I did find the (blush) "boobs" thread amazing. I don''t think I could either start a discussion like that with most women, or could have participated in a discussion without getting in mucho trouble.

And some of the really heated discussions are great to read too - all the insight you get into women''s thoughts are great.

And the proposal stories - WOW! Some of them are great for ideas on how to make cflutist happy.

Finally, the great appreciation for the beautiful stones is neat and always interesting to see the compliments, etc....

No, I don''t understand women and never will, but I think I will always find them fun to talk with. The more the merrier!

Dancing Fire:

It is my understanding that most engagement rings are purchased on credit. Not that many folks save much at all - much less the cost of a decent engagement ring (however you define decent).

WebSailor: I have to agree with some of your comments. I admit it - I''m sexist and like gals - and like to look at them too (not that many gals are complaining).
