I am SO excited, FI and I are geting Indian food tonight. Mmm...naan!

It''s been a while since the last time I had Indian food, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of dishes I might try. Unfortunately the place doesn''t have an online menu, or I''d attach the link to make things easier. Either way, any yummy not-too-spicy dishes you would recommend?

Yumm! My absolute favorate is chicken saag. Its really tender chicken in a spinach type base. Its really good.

Also really like the cauliflowers and potatos (don''t know indian name for it)

I really like biryani. It''s a really flavorful rice dish with some kind of protein in it. At the Indian restaurants here you can get it spicy or not, but that''s one of my favorites.

I like Chicken Saag or Shrimp Saag ... it's meat in a kinda spinachy sauce, you eat it over basmati rice (which usually comes with)

Alu Paratha bread is my all time fave -- but it's not for the faint of heart calorie wise -- it's like fried bread stuffed with POTATO and PEAS.!

Korma dishes (Chicken Korma or Shrimp Korma) are the creamy coconut milk type sauces I think.

Those are my top picks but I'm not that adverterous!

ETA: order Lemon Pickle on the side for a real ZING.

MMMMMM Indian food.....I''m always up for Indian food. I''d love a samosa and some chicken korma for dinner tonight...

The potato and cauliflower dish is called Aloo Gobi . . .

My favorites are anything with paneer (indian cheese) in it . . .

Mattar Paneer (peas and paneer)
Palak Paneer or Saag Paneer (spinach and paneer)
Shahi Paneer (my favorite, paneer in a sauce)

Also, I love Chana Saag . . . chickpeas and spinach
And Chicken Tikka Masala id always the perfect dish for an occasional or first time indian food eater.

Since I am Indian, I eat all my indian food and other foods deathly spicy . . . but you can order almost anything mild. Just don''t order any vindaloo, that is spicy.
Enjoy . . . yum, maybe I will cook indian tonight.

Yum! I am loving the tasty suggestions. Keep them coming. I''m not sure how limited the menu is.

Boy, I''m getting hungry already after reading all of these delicious ideas...and it''s not even 4:30 yet. Eep!

I *LOVE* Chicken Tikka Masala! So good!

Mmmm, I love Indian food. Chicken tikka masala is my favorite, but I also love chicken biryani. I''ve also had somethiung called "chicken josh" and it was vedry simialr to chicken tikka masala but it has red and green peppers in it as well. Saag paneer (sp?) is good too. I also love naan, preferable plain. Have you ever had a lassi? It''s a yogurt drink and they usually come in mango, coconut, and strawberry (maybe other flavors too, I''m not sure). Yum!

Sorry to threadjack here but I have an easy recipe for mango lassi and thought I would share it here.

1 can mango pulp (indian or asian grocery store)
1 large container (32 oz.) vanilla yogurt
1 cup cold water
sugar to taste

Blend the above ingredients and serve over ice.

For about the cost of 2 mango lassis from the restaurant, you can have 6 mango lassis . . .

I like pretty much all Indian food. But I usually order some variation of saag (chicken, paneer, chickpeas, etc.). It''s usually not too spicy, and I like to think it''s healthier (cause of the spinach), though that''s probably just wishful thinking!

My vote's for paneer tikka masala! I looooove paneer and loooove tikka masala. It's the perfect combination, IMHO.

The Indian food was SOOOOOO yummy tonight. I just wanted to update everyone on what we got. I got the chicken tikka masala (thank you for the delicious suggestion

) and FI got the chicken curry. It was absolutely perfect! The chicken was very tender and the rice and naan was spectacular. So, anyone in the Reston/Herndon, VA area who likes Indian food should definitely try Curry N Kabob in the Clock Tower Shopping Center off of Centreville Road. YUM!!!!

mmm we had indian this week! i got chicken tikka but there is also chicken tikka masala which is a different sauce. i love the rice and the naan is to die for!! greg loves garlic naan also.

i also love butter chicken (sooo creamy and yummy with chicken breast, great mixed with rice and some raita), and the samosas and that other thing that is like a pancake bread with veggies and potatoes inside. yummy. and raita of course (yogurt sauce) to mix in with rice and meats. and a mango lassi. mmm i''m hungry now!!

glad your dinner was great!

yes, raita! Love the stuff!! I''ve had the butter chicken a couple places and sometimes it isn''t that good and sometimes it is awesome! Its the only thing I''ve had that is really hit or miss, cause it is all so dang good - I''m going to have to do this! Hey, I bet I could call for some take out and go pick it up! :::::thinking:::::

Ceh, raita

yeah, apparently I am susceptible to the power of suggestion, cause guess what dh is going to pick up as I type... thank goodness I saved a menu from the place we like LOL

Lamb Biriyani, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Chicken Korma, Paratha (similar to the poo-ree bread I was talking about before), nan, raita, and some extra basmati :) I''ve got to get the saag next time.... and I''m bummed no lamb vindaloo - I circled my fav things and then gave dh power to choose LOL

greg LOVES lamb biryani...that is what he had this week when we had the indian. he also loves lamb vindaloo as well. he's a total lamb person at the indian places. the spicier the better. i, however, am a total spice wuss so even with butter chicken i end up mixing a ton of raita in and rice to counteract the spiciness of whatever i am eating. chicken tikka is not typically spicy that is why i really like it, oh and it's grilled rather than in a sauce so when i feel like not clogging my arteries that is what i get.

the few places we have had butter chicken at, it has always been fabulous..maybe we got lucky! there are so many great indian places around here too and greg has a really good friend who is indian and eats out all the time so we just basically go wherever HE eats and have never been disappointed. the naan this week was so yummy, i am already thinking about us getting takeout again next week or something haha.

Our meal wasn''t that great

And it was *expensive*!!) 42 bucks before tip for 3 things and some bread. The biriyani was fine, abundant, but spicy for some reason which is okay except the kids don''t like spicy... the tandoori was also very spicy which I thought was *weird* as well, but it tasted okay, a bit dry perhaps but  the korma was *awesome* but there was like this tiny little bit for $14!!! And they forgot to send us any plain white rice. The breads were burned in places... it just sucked especially for what we paid! This place is lucky they have a lunch buffet that you can get stuffed on for like $8 a person! When they first opened they had THE most amazing indian food ever.... then it changed hands and it had the WORST food ever!! Now its better than it was, but it''s definitely not the best we''ve ever had. I miss food in california where you could find ethnic food much more authentic and better prepared. I will give these guys credit that they use cardamom pods and other whole spices and not just ground stuff and it is actually pretty good but *everything* is a little (or a lot) spicy which makes it not kid friendly for our clan. From this place they''ll just eat white rice and korma (which is insanely expensive for what you get) and bread and I miss being able to expose them to more variety.

What I *really* really want though is a good lebanese restaurant again. If I had a good one I may never eat anything else again, including sushi LOl
