Gift celebrating birth of our daughter

Oh btw, I remember you have sent out some gems, including the Spess, to get certed and set. Did you finally have the Spess set?

Not yet, my friend! I did have it certified by AGL, but it's still waiting in the queue to be set. I'm working on another piece right now, but I think the red spinel or spess may be next. Was Antony able to send you the requested vids? :)

Look forward to your spinel and Spess piece! How fun is it to build settings for own collected stones one by one:)

Yes I got videos of different lightings from Antony~That includes a low light clip, and looks promising! He’s responsive btw!

I’ve also told my jeweller I found the stone! But we are still at the stage of summarising my ideas. I find my concepts quite scrappy this time and am trying to better organise them. One thing I can tell is I no longer restrict it to sliding setting to allow more flexibility on design.

I'm just so excited to see how this very meaningful piece turns out, E!

Ok, cluster setting is one of the potential direction for the pendant project. Would like to get some ideas about what gemstones work well with a Spess main stone for say an Autumn vibe?

First comes to mind is heated vivid yellow sapphire and greenish yellow chrysoberyl which should not be out of place when put next to a mandarin garnet.

Your thoughts? Any other ideas?

I love the cluster idea! So when I think of fall... I imagine rich reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and even purples. Have you considered using varying shades of spess... adding reds and yellows? What about setting the main spess in a cluster with white, champagne, cognac, and brown diamonds? :mrgreen2: Or perhaps you could use purple garnets as the accent? Orange and purple are my favorite color combo for fall. I also like your idea of adding a yellow sapphire and chrysoberyl!

Let’s visualise them, also for everyone who is interested.

OMG this is too much fun!!

How will you decide?! So many wonderful options. You may need to play around a bit. Here's what I do... I take the most accurate photo of my gem, isolate it, and then do the same for all of the other gems I'm considering. Finally, I put them side-by-side in a Word document, so I can see which compliment each other best. Try not to laugh... it's old school, but it works. :shifty: Yes, I'm very simple! I don't have photoshop or any other editing program. But, if you do, that will work even better, I'm sure!

I actually did what you mentioned, isolated the image of the Spess, and combined it with several existing setting pics to try to understand better what we might like~ Just didn’t think of mixing different colour stones when I did that~

As for the colour combinations, I am leaning more towards having the orange of our stone at the centre stage, and adding other colours as accents. I did learn from your thread that orange and purple are complimentary^^ But it’s more about making each other stand out, that it may not be exactly what I want to achieve from this piece. I do envision something with vivid red pink and electric blue in future~

So green yellow and yellow are really what comes to mind, as they are also vivid and glowy for top level chrysoberyl and sapphire. Yellow is closer in mood to orange than green yellow, while green yellow allows a slightly wider spectrum of hues and might look more refreshing. Highly fluorescent greenish yellow diamonds further boost the effect! But no it’s gonna be a big spent:)

It sounds like you have a clear image of the effect you're going for, and I have no doubt the result will be breathtaking! I'm really eager to see how this design progresses. Keep me (us) in the loop! :mrgreen2:
