So, after doing a lot of thinking, I''ve realized that life is WAY to short to be so consumed by material things.

I''ve taken a lot of joy from spending time on this board and learning about diamonds and gems, but it is the people I''ve met here who are even more important than the necklaces and rings I''ve acquired in the time that I''ve been here.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to donate jewlery? Should I sell it first and then donate the proceeds? Or is it better to give it to the organization and have them sell it?

Thanks all!

RZ

You should fly or drive to the san francisco bay area for a GTG, and give them to me. I'll give you a reciept and everything.

Okay, SO...if you REALLY want to donate to a worthy cause... pick your top two "causes" that are near and dear to your heart.

Then find a great charitable organization (someone on here has a list of charitable organizations by ranking) that supports that cause, contact them and ask them how they prefer you handle it.

ETA: This is for April Fools right.

Excellent advice. Here is the thread where you can look up the org for ranking https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-charities-do-you-give-to-why-and.69916/ and the org knows how to handle it best as far as selling goes as Gypsy mentioned.

I love your new OEC ring

Are you absolutely 100% sure you want to do this??

If you''ve thought about it very carefully over a considerable period of time....go ahead, but donate wisely.

If you are serious, I'm not sure which would be better. I hope this is not an impulsive decision; I've let go of things on impulse and regreted it later.

You do realise that you can donate them after this life?

In case it is not an April''s fool thing, I suggest selling them and donating the proceeds. With jewelry, there is the risk of items not being accounted for and being pocketed..

You will regret it at a later date. This is a love of yours and part of you. We all burn out on our loves sometimes, though. I've done that (with other pursuits in life) but you do come back to it.

Put them in a nice small box, wrap in a pretty wrapping paper (to give you a nice mental aura/positive vibes for the contents in the box) (does that make sense?) and bury away in some far corner of your basement where you can't see it.

If, in five (full) years, you think the same, then revisit your sale/donation ideas.

Hugs.

Oh, and I don't see it as "consumed by material things".
Jewelry/stones are art and, as such, it is an emotional thing, very much, also.

Oh my, this is a very generous thing for you to consider, but are you sure that you won''t regret it? I had to sell most of my jewelry to help family, and while what I did was a good thing, I do miss my jewelry

lol this is SO an April fools!!!
But just in case it isn''t you can make an anonymous donation to the luckystar112 account!

This has GOT to be an April fools!

But if not, you are a very generous gal!

I will put my money on April fools. That being said, talking about life being short and giving away prized possessions are classic and major signs of suicide. No one gives away their jewelry, get help!

this is the first april fool''s joke i''ve encountered today.

Yep, if it had been posted any of the other 364 days, I would answer. But 4/1/08...it HAS to be April Fools!!!!!

Rockzilla: if you don't care who gets it( and of course if you make or not make any money) why not consider to share it right here with people who truly appreciate jewels?
No I am not asking for any myself because I agree with you that the people we meet here are far more superior than any piece of jewelery one could ever have.I am sure you would be happy to know that someone is truly enjoying the pieces.

APRIL FOOLS!!

I knew I couldn''t pull one over on you PSers...

Boy, Rock, I was going to give you the Mother Theresa award!

You kept silent so I figured you were waiting to pounce an April fool''s on us!

I knew I couldn''t pull one over on you PSers...

You got me totally...

We are used to pranks on here for April Fools day. If you had posted the day before, put more into it, maybe..... But nice try anyway.

Glad your jewels are staying put!!!

Whew! I didn''t respond earlier today although I wanted to...you actually had me worried that you might be contemplating suicide! (you know they say people who are getting ready to commit suicide give away all their special belongs?) You scared me, but since it was April Fool''s I didn''t think you''d come here first to give things away!!! Silly!!!!

I knew it!

Dang. Just ignore the bank details I sent you...

gah...so glad to hear this was after all, an April Fool's..you got me RZ.

Edit: I already responded above...jeez. You REALLY had me going!!!

It''s funny, I didn''t post because wanted to confirm that it was April Fools.
However actually I have had sentiments just as Rockzilla posted (especially that people are more important than things!)
Sometimes I feel too attached to material object (in particular my jewelry and pet rock collection) and how great it would be if I was so evolved buddhist-wise I could give them away, or sell them and donate the money to a good cause and not be bothered by it at all.
I''ve not evolved to that point however!

Besides my daughter who is all of 5 has informed me that when I die I will leave her all my jewelry. Morbid kid.
