I am very close to purchasing a topaz gemstone, which would ultimately go on a ring for my wife. What is holding me back though is that I have no idea who to go to for both the band and mounting. Does anyone have recommendations for vendors on Pricescope that are known to do an exceptional job? I would prefer to get the band & mounting done by the same vendor. Thanks!

Wink could probably help you! Welcome to PS

Any other thoughts?

Email the administrator and he can move this thread to the colored gem forum where might get more help with suggestions.

Did you call Wink to get some ideas? I don't know if Pearlman's does that sort of thingk you might check w/them.

I hope others chime in soon. What color of topaz, what shape and carat size? Why type of mounting, simple?

Go to the SMTR area and search for "Grandfather''s Citrine"...Someone recently posted a photo of a gorgeous EC Topaz/Citrine that''s set Tiffany style, with a tapered baguette on each side in white gold. It''s really pretty and very classic.

What I like is the amber-colored topaz...with bring out my wife's (beautiful tri-colored) eyes perfectly. I am trying not to spend an arm and a leg though since we just got married 6 months ago (the ring will actually be made in advance for our 1 yr anniversary).

Excluding the price of the gem, how little can I get away with spending for the band and to have it mounted ? :)

*going to look at links below now*

I am searching for settings right now. Most local jewelry stores can buy from www.stuller.com

The simple settings run under 200 USD. Browse their site and see what you can find. Prices are not listed and you have to go to a local jeweler and find that out plus pay for the setting of the stone.

What a wonderful variety of designs this site has! Thank you for posting it, Stone Hunter, I suspect it will help me in my project too.

So many to look at...wow, this may be tougher than I thought!

Your welcome. I got to see one of the settings in person today. It helped to rule it out! Always work with someone who lets you see the settings before you commit!

Long time update coming. So I ended up purchasing a 2.1 ct emerald cut topaz (amber-orange in color with red flash) from Artistic Colored Stone. A very pretty rock! I think it will look marvelous in the right context...which is exactly my problem right now.

I''ve been struggling though with choosing a ring for it though. My first issue in this process is metal color. Do I want a yellow gold, or white? Considering the color of the stone, is it better to go with a neutral or will the yellow look good? Alternatively, would the rock look odd with a neutral? I can''t decide and must claim ignorance!

Ideas?

It would be very helpful if you can post a picture of that beauty. I'm thinking a yellow metal will be suitable as it will bring out the warmth of the amber coloured stone.

Why didn''t I think of that? ;) Here''s the pic...

Some people like the contrast of a cold white metal with a warm yellow/orange stone, while others like the warm/warm combination. Another thing to consider is the wearer''s skin tone. White metal make my skin look ashen while yellow seems better suited. For others, yellow metal might blend in too much and white is more suited.

Let''s just leave skin tone out of the picture (though that is a point of course that should be taken into consideration) and just look at the interaction between the stone and the metal. Would yellow gold influence the color of the stone - making it dominantly yellow for instance? I really have no experience with yellow gold in general as both myself and my wife only have "white" rings.

Yes, in this instance, the yellow will have some influence as to the look of the gemstone. It will help make it look more yellow/orangey.

You also posted that she''s only had white metal rings. Some women like all their jewellery to match (all white, or all yellow). This is another thing to consider.

I agree with Chrono that if your wife only wears white gold, that ought to be what you go with. I thought I''d give you some options. This first is very inexpensive and is from Wink Jones. It is a simple but beautiful setting.

Here''s a pretty east-west setting, again from Wink.

Or a selection of three stones?

Upgradable,

I actually really like those solitaire settings - particularly the east-west one! I might go with something like that - subtle, yet utterly perfect with the right stone (which I think I have). :)

My other option is to do something very different from anything my wife has. She does not have a 3-stone ring. And today I saw this one: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/birthday-bling-i-love-this-thing.70144/ This ring just blows my mind, but I can''t seem to find something similar. I would actually prefer to go with Wink since we have been in correspondence. Have any suggestions on something similar (or exact) to this?

I''d ask Lauren where she got the setting you love. It''s a stunning ring isnt'' it?
