I''m not even sure where that is - is it near Tokyo? I''m flying into Shibuya? I have no idea where to begin!!

Thanks for all who can help!

Oh I''m so jealous! You''ll love the food, it''s better thn the Japanese food in the United States.
I worked in Tokyo for about 8 months. Sadley I never got out of the city except once to Kyushu the Southern most Island. But if you wind up in Tokyo go to Harajuku ( lived near there) which is a funky shopping district with young people dressed all crazy and also shinju ku which is another cool shopping district minus the weird clothes and with cool department stores. Ueno is another fun part of town.
The museum of Edo is really awsome it''s all about the history of Tokyo which used to be called Edo. I loved it.
I would also check out the Kinryuzan temple. It still looks like the wood block print pictured here that Hiroshige did in 1856. They have kept a lantern in the same place. http://www.ukiyoe-reproductions.com/html/pictures/lhiroshige7.html

My Fiance says thats not the temple we went to but that it was the Senso-ji Temple.

We are going to Japan this summer to visit our son who is teaching there. My husband is in charge of planning the trip so I''m not really sure of the details. We are going to Kyoto, Tokyo, Nikko, and some other places. I''m not sure where you are going. Do you like to hike? There is a neat place to hike where there are lots of wild monkeys, etc...that is on our list but I''m not sure exactly where that is at the moment. Something tells me it is nearer to Nikko. My husband has more details and he is not here at the moment...sorry. I do know I''m going to go to the Mikomoto pearl museum.

How long will you be there? Are you going any other places than Tokyo?

I will be anxious to hear of your trip. Keep us posted. I hear it is a LONG flight.

Hope you have a great trip.
Betsy

OK, I found out the the hiking place I''m talking about is near Hiroshima. It is called Miya-Jima Island and it is not near Tokyo. Sorry I can''t be of more help but if you do figure out something nice to do in Tokyo let us know. Maybe the Cherry Blossom''s will be happening!

I am SOOOOOOOO jeolous! its been almost 6 months since i was there for our honeymoon and i still miss it. i cant wait to go back..
some have given you awsome advice.. but alot depends on what you plan on doing while your there. if youre more into gardens and temples and shrines, then maybe some of the more rural areas will be better.. Kyoto is a big city, but still retains alot of the "older" charm with many temples and gardens to see. Its not quite as hussle bussle as Tokyo. if youre in Kyoto, you must go to Kiyomizu temple..its so beautiful! and the walk to the temple is fun too, with a street just completely lined with little shops. from kyoto you can also take day train rides to neighboring cities..recommend Himeji, to see Himeji castle.. its exactly what you would expect a Japanese castle to look like.. awsome, but be prepared to climb some steps! another place to see is Kyoto station.. yes, the train station! its a work of modern art if you ask me.. and is connected to department stores, a hotel, more shopping underneath.. its just amazing.
Tokyo is awsome too, like they said.. Shibuya, Shijuku, Harajuku, Ropongi...the list just goes on. Must take a look see at Tsukiji fish market.. best to go the morning after you arrive as you probably have jet lag anyway and will be up at the crack of dawn. you can see them bring in the huuuge tuna.. but must get there by 545am-ish to see them auction off the fish. its quite a sight!
And cant forget the food..even when youre not hungry.. you want to eat because everything looks so darn good.
okay, i better stop now, or i could go on forever.. have fun! take pics and come back and share!

Thanks everyone! I wil spill the beans about my trip when i get back. My sister is a photographer and she''s pretty well known over there, so I get to go as her "nanny" and watch my new nephew while she''s shooting and having fan club meetings. It will be really cool to see her stuff over there!

If you are bored or want to take a peek, here''s her website - she photographs dolls!!

sorry I forgot to write it about what to do( see) in Hiroo? my husband and I was living in the Area ( Roppongi Hills)for short time for hubby''s bisiness.

Hiroo is next to the Roppongi ( it''s very populer place to Foreign country people hanging around ,thausand Bar. Restrant. casino ( strip club)which Foreign country lady working many from England and Euro)
Hiroo is very nice place however I don''t think it''s not so much for shopping.
maybe for dinning out I guess.
there is a hotel for only militaly people so there is many military people the Area.
also there is big park near the station & International market ( food, wine.) if you would like to go get something American food or wine they have .(but you can get american stuff all over in the Tokyo)

this location is very easy to accese to shibuya ,Ginza. Naka Okachimachi ( diamond street)
Hiroo is on Hibiya Line subway.
you can get JR line( go to the Harajiyuku and shinjiyuku / shibuya ) at Ebisu station which next to the Hiroo.
also you can go Ginza staition Straight from the Hibiya ( about 10min)

We were stationed in Japan for 5 years. There are lots of things to see. Roppongi is mainly a drinking place for Americans (at least it was when I was there). As for jewelry definitely got to Okachimachi (I used to go regularly) it''s awesome. There are so many gardens and temples that are really beautiful. Tokyo is a mix of all cultures. You will find some great resturants with traditional foods and also some American favorites: Johnny Rockets, Hard Rock, Tony Roma''s, etc. If you get the chance go to Yokohama, they have "China Town" area there and it''s a wonderful place to find odd little trinkets. You will see lots of American military as there are 4 bases within a reasonable distance. Try the bakeries, they are great too.
