Gold plating over sterling silver?

Hi everybody, I'm new here

Anyway this may be a stupid question, but is it possible to have sterling silver plated with gold? I have the amethyst sparkler from tiffanys in silver and I think it would look nice in gold. And I don't know if my husband would want to fork over 700 bones for another. Thanks in advance!

Certainly. When silver is plated with gold, it is called vermeil. It may not be possible for every silver object to be plated, but in general silver can be plated with gold! A few years ago I saw some earrings in a primitive style that I associated with gold being made on Etsy in sterling silver. (I love high karat gold.) I asked the artist if she could plate the earrings she made in 24K gold, which she said she could (and she did). They look like solid 24K gold errings! It is a very old and very common jewelry making practice.
