I''m with your Mom, it is gorgeous and I LOVE it on you.... I don''t care for the mermaids at all... not very flattering? too distracting? I don''t know... they just don''t do it for me.

Maybe it''s an age thing.....because I think you look positively STUNNING in the Reem dress that your mom likes best.

I just don''t care for the first dresses.

Priscilla dress....the trumpet section looks like linen skirts they put on banquet tables at a hotel.
CH - does nothing to accentuate your ''upper assets''
The Liberty - don''t like the circumference of ribbon running around your hips - why accentuate the widest part?
Melissa - cute on your figure.....but girlish, and does remind me of the 40s call girl that someone else mentioned earlier. I keep thinking of the can-can with that dress.

However, I''m not the one wearing them, so it''s just my opinion, FWIW.
Ditto to everything alj said.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Reem dress your mom likes (and BTW, I''m not your mother''s age

).

I adore the Carolina Herrera dress-it looks fantastic on you

I like both of the Reem Acra''s! So pretty!

i also don't love the trumpet style dresses, on some they can be flattering but really i just think it makes the body look really funky. and you have a stunning bod..!!

love the first reem. i really don't like the melissa sweet out of all the trumpets also, it seems like it looks kind of sausagey? could just be the image. in terms of trumpet the first few are kind of nice...if you decide to go that route. agree no band at the hips or anything like that which might 'cut' you in half.

oh and it's tough because we may not like something but what if your mom does? and you don't? i say please yourself! if you LOVE your dress, keep it. your mom WILL think you look fab on your wedding day, it is a given.

FF, this is the dress I really like (for me):

I hope that worked...it was my first time posting my own pics! (Its not easy being green!!!!)

DUH. I just figured out how to do it...

so, this is the dress MY mom is trying to talk me out of:

jennypackhamclaire2.jpg

Howdy - the picture above is a Jenny Packham dress - I actually saw it in person and even though the picture is lovely it''s very vintage and does not really accent or follow the shape of your figure - on me it looked like a vintage night gown. I was also not fond of the material - the samples were already hooked/snagged and for the price I was worried that by the end of my wedding day it would have holes in it! So I think it''s best to see it in person to decide. One thing I can say is that you have a STUNNING drop dead gorgeous figure. I would try a figure hugging dress because you can really pull it off! The most important thing is that YOU feel beautiful - you will know it''s right dress when the bridal boutique gals tell you it''s time to take it off because your hour is up!!!

HI! Sorry to jack your thread FF, but I''m in a similar predicament.

I DID try this on...and it fit me like a Glove. I am quite petite, but curvy, so on me it accented all the goods, but hid and contoured where I need it. I absolutely LOVED it. I didnt want to take it off, and my Mom and my BFF were like, OMG, and we all knew it was made for me.
PS. I am a bit hippie-dippie slash granola-glam...so for me it''s a treasure!! HEE!

one more pic of it!

Hi Mela lu

Did you try this Jenny Packham? It''s called Papillon. The Price: 1,960 pounds ($3,838.80 USD)
It''s a little more sexy but still romantic /flowy and soft. Unfortunately it did not work for me but that does not mean that it would not look fabulous on you. Jenny Packham is hugely famous in the UK for her evening-dress collections and now evening inspired wedding gowns. I was disappointed when I tried it on because I really wanted a Jenny Packham dress. It was just too vintage and sloppy for my body type.

Yes! I''ve seen this (but not tried it on) and it too is Gorgeous!
I live in Toronto, Canada, so we dont have AS much access to some designers

For instance, I ADORE Claire Pettibone''s vintage inspired dresses! Look at the back of this one!

hmmm.... well I really don''t like #1... or #3.... I guess from fav to least it would be 2 4 3 1 Though I might change my mind about the order of 2 and 4 - I won''t about 1 or 3 lol now I gotta go back and look at your old dress...

My goodness that dress is GORGEOUS. I dream about dresses that are that vintage flowy style... going to the website now...

That''s quite pretty! Is it a heavy lace?

You really do look great in those dresses!!! Imagine once it''s fit to your body?? Amazing!

It is a little heavy...but I just can''t get over the back view...it''s exactly what I want in the back...too bad I''m not sure about the front...

Thanks for the kind words!
ITA with what you''re saying here.... I loved the back but the top would have to fit you differently - your figure is great but that is too loose or something.... I didn''t think you looked flat in the CH I just thought it looked beautiful and elegant.

HI FF:

The Herrera was devine and the Reem (spelling) was also wonderful. Are you able to try second Reem (posted pic) elsewhere to give you an idea?

cheers--Sharon

Another vote for the Herrara. From the pics, I think it really flatters you the most and it is a stunningly beautiful dress! Good luck in your search...my mother went dress shopping with me as well and we had a bit of a tough time agreeing on one too! You''ll find one you can both agree upon, though...don''t stress too much.

I love the mermaid styles (as I had one myself) and you definitely have the body type for them, but I think I like the styles where the fabric gently eases into that mermaid shape rather than having embellishments where it looks ''attached'' or too much volume. I feel like it draws attention to that area of the dress rather than seeing the bigger picture - you wearing a beautifully cut dress.

My favorites are the CH and both the Reems. You look amazing in the first Reem - would love to see the second one on you. It''s a tough choice since you look amazing in the CH, too! Ahhhh... I remember the ''dress stress'' all too clearly!

Answer to orignal dress issue...2nd Reem Acra dress is #1 and Liberty is 2nd choice

PS As long as you feel beautiful no worries...don''t get so down about your mom''s choice

PPS I liked it the least

Sorry, a little late but I wanted to tell you you look beautiful in the Carolina Herrera.. and also the Melissa Sweet...

I love the first reem....i know its not the style you want, but its GORGEOUS!!!!!essentially you have to get what you want, because you are wearing the dress.. my mom came dress shopping with me 3X and we don''t have the same taste...i went without her found and bought my dress. She first saw it at my final fitting and she adored it on me. she told me i made the perfect choice. I know had i found the dress with her she would have had something negative to say...my mom couldn''t picture the dresses in my size or color(most dresses i tried on were the gold color or stark white...i got ivory) good luck shopping and remember: no matter what you choose, you will be a beautiful bride---and your mom will think so too.

I agree. Trumpet skirts are cute in theory, but I feel like you have to have a very specific figure for it. They can be unflattering on super hot girls depending on how you''re shaped.

I LOVE the one your mom likes. That shape makes you look teeny tiny, and the detailing is very elegant.

I''m not a big trumpet-fan either, but that''s probably because back when I tried them on, I felt like all I was seeing was the width of my thighs... they draw so much attention to that area. I kinda felt like I was boldly announcing to the world "look everyone, I''m a pear!!"
31.gif

BUT, that''s probably just my own weird insecurities coming through. You really do have a gorgeous figure (no wonder the decision is so hard!!). For what it''s worth, though, after looking at you in the first few dresses I thought to myself "oh she has a similar body type to me"..... then when I got to that first Reem, I thought "oops, not at all... she''s so skinny!!!"
9.gif
Not to say that looking skinny is the most important thing about your dress (feeling glamorous and stunning and uniquely beautiful certainly rates higher!), just wanted to share my initial reaction.

Are you planning to do some more shopping? I bet you would LOVE some of Jenny Lee''s dresses......

the carolina herrera is my fave, followed by the 1st reem. the second reem and the ulla are gorgeous (well, minus the weird feather things on the ulla) but i reserve judgement on those until i see em on ya!

Well ... I must be loopy ''cause I like the Ulla one best!??!! I *don''t* like the trumpet/mermaid ones at all .. but that''s my own hangup. I don''t like ''em on anyone ...

The Carolina is pretty but it reminds me so much of Katie Holmes wedding dress that I''d fear everyone was thinking I was copying ... not that that should matter - but UGH .. Katie Holmes & her fake nuptuals???

And I like the 2nd Reem better than the Mom fave Reem.

WHY DOESN"T ANYONE ELSE LIKE THE ULLA???? I bet it was stunning & unique *on* you ...

well... the neckline is a bit severe for my tastes but the feathers around the skirt did nothing positive at all for me lol

I like the carolina hererra and the second reem.
