Maybe its just my age (39) but it seems like since I started coloring my hair last year to get rid of greys, the roots show more and more greys everytime it grows out.

What age where you when you really started to go grey? And did it start slow or was there an age where you noticed it all of a sudden and it happened fast?

I started coloring it when I noticed lots of white streaks in my hair when I pulled it back into a ponytail for working out. My daughter told me it looked like witch hair (gotta love the honest of young kids!) and with that comment I knew it was time to call the hairdresser. She does an amazing job and it looks totally natural, until it started growing and the greys are almost silver white and seem to multiply.

Also, and this sounds silly but I'm more concered about my eyebrows turning white. My hair is really dark naturally and it suits me so thats the color I have kept it, with a few subtle highlights. But thankfully my eyebrows are still dark and have not started to turn grey.

What age do the eyebrows go grey? And what then, do you dye them as well? that sounds like such a pain. Do you just have the hairdresser do it when you do you hair?

Witches Hair! NOOOO!

I think sometimes the best way to "hide" greys is to use blonde hi-lights and not go w/ a solid color. That will prevent the roots from coming in and being like... hello! Plus the blonde will let you go for longer w/o needing a touch-up... it just sorts of hides it better. (and about the eyebrows... I think that is hereditary... my Gams is well into her Late 60's and still has brown eyebrows. But IMHO I think when they start to change, it will just look best to let the rest match. Because I couldn't even imagine EYEBROW ROOTS!)

So maybe try a new look, and spice things up a bit! Hello Saphron and goodbye Oregano!

Anywho... just rock it. Sexy is in your mind, if you feel it inside- your booty will wiggle it outside.

I also cover gray in my dark hair. I think the onset of gray differs widely. I do not use permanent color since it is harsh on hair, but my hairdresser puts color on my hair every three weeks because I cannot tolerate the gray showing at my part. My eyebrows are still natural dark brown...no sign whatsoever of gray there.

My natural hair color is a very dark brown (nearly black) too so I feel your pain on covering the greys. I didn''t really start coloring until after I turned 30 though just on principle

My father went grey in his early 20s so genetically I was doomed. I notice now that each time I go to color (every 4-6 weeks or so) it seems that there are more and more greys also. And not only that, within the last six months, I DID notice one white eyebrow!!

I''m not sure how long it will take for more to show up, but if that ever happens, I personally would dye the brows to match the hair on my head.

I am only 28 and have some gray hair! I think it is more obvious with women with dark hair. Some of them look blonde (when I investigate) but against my dark hair looks white.

Yep. Same here. I discovered the first few grays a couple months ago. There''s only about 5-10 or so of them thus far (I pluck them and they grow back), and only in one exact spot of my head, but they''re there!

I started going grey around 25 and now at 27 I have to have it colored every 4 - 6 weeks because the grey is overwhelming. I am constantly changing my hair color, but figure why not? If I''m going to have to get it colored all the time to cover the grey, I may as well mix it up. I''ve always preferred dark hair or red hair on myself, but the grey gets even worse then I think I might have to seriously consider highlights.

I discovered my first grey at age 18!!

My dad was completely grey by 30 so no surprise where that came from!! Now, at 26 I have significant greying and I have pretty dark hair. I get it colored every 6 weeks or so.

I started finding grays at 25. I''m blonde to start with though, so they passed as more blonde or highlights for a while. Now, I''ve taken to highlighting to try to blend them in.

I''m 25 and only have 3 gray hairs! I started getting them when I was 22 I think. My mom isn''t really too gray at all.. so I think I''ll be ok. I just pull them out. It sucks.

I started to gray around 45 (I''m 52), mostly in the front but just about 10-15 % gray(no gray eyebrows here). My husband (same age) is almost all gray. My dad in his 80''s never turned all white (salt and pepper) and his eyebrows stayed dark. I guess it just depends.

But I hate coloring my hair because even though I had it done in a salon, my hair felt dry. I now use a Wella demi-permanent color at home every 2 to 3 weeks (my hair grows really fast) to touch up my roots. My hair is not dry, has great shine and the color gradually fades. Instead of looking like one flat color, my grays look like highlights and everyone asks me who does my highlights. Yes, it really does look that good. I get the Wella demi-permanent color and it cost me less than $5.00 each time I color my hair (1 tube is good for 2 applications for me. My hair is just a bit shorter than shoulder length) You can check out the Wella site on-line it is called Wella Color Charm (check it out here) :

http://www.wellausa.com/consumer/products_consumer/american_classics/color_charm_demi_permanent.jsp?http://www.liquidhair.com

(it comes as a permanent and demi or semi permanent) and I buy it at Sally Beauty Supply.

Your genetics determine when and how you gray. I''m going to be mostly brunette for some time to come even though I''m 50. I take after my Dad''s family, and they went gray only after their sixties. For the few strands I see now, I just use a semi-permament L''Oreal product.

What I find so odd, is that my hair is getting ''redder''.

I guess it could be the sun down here in Texas; it can be a bit intense.

Holly, my mom''s eyes are getting lighter! Her eye doc said it was fine. Strange stuff happens with age.

My hair has a bit of grey here and there and I''m 36.

I am so glad to hear that I am not alone! I started getting a few grey hairs just before my 30th day last year. I was tortured!!

My DF calls them my natural highlights!
23.gif
I hate them. I was getting highlights at the hairdressers every 6 weeks, but it got so expensive and with the wedding coming up, I couldn''t justify spending that kind of money. Now every 6 weeks or so I put a home colour through it, and it''s great. It covers the greys well (the 8 or so that I have) and it only costs me $30 for the dye.

They aren''t very noticable and they seem so small, but they have such a big impact on my state of mind. I really feel old now. It''s silly I know, but I will get over them and learn to accept them. I just hate hate hate the idea of having to colour my hair forever now, I used to love my soft natural hair, it''s just not the same anymore, albeit a bit more manageable with the colour in it.

It is like a curse.

I find the more stressed I am the quicker they come.

I don''t have any grey yet, so I can''t really comment on the dying question, but I know many people who are going grey in their mid-20s. Scary. My dad was 75% grey by the time he was 30, but it appears I haven''t inherited those genes (fingers crossed).

I think you can dye your hair forever if you want! My grandma still has bright red hair, though I''m sure she''s been grey for at least 40 years

Though I don''t know how to answer the eye brown question ... I imagine you have to be very grey before that happens because I don''t know anyone who has had a problem with it that wasn''t entirely grey already. I would think that using eye brow corrector (gel, pencil, whatever) would help hide it, but if your eye brows are really dark the contrast might be enough to see it no matter what.

I think I got my first gray hairs around 16 or so. I wasn''t surprised because I don''t have good genes for that stuff.

By mid-20s I was probably half gray at the crown and not as back in the back. I''m 31 now and about 80% gray at the crown, maybe 50% in the back? I''m not sure......

I''ve been coloring my hair for ages now, so I don''t necessary notice it unless I let my roots get a little long. I''m a blonde that went darker as I got older, so I do all over color and highlights. I''m lucky that my gray is not wiry and tends too look sort of like the highlights (or so I try and convince myself).

One of my sisters has dark hair and her gray is more wiry and really is noticeable. She doesn''t have a ton, but they are definitely there. She''s 24..... and she''s had them for a few years now. Bad genes, I tell ya, bad genes!

Ha! I don''t know that I want ''strange stuff'' happening to me! I expect to get shorter, and I''m working on the ''wider'', but I don''t want to grow any odd lumps, bumps, or gnarly stuff! lol You know what I''m really not looking forward to -- the aging of my hands. I don''t know why that bothers me, but it does.

I got my first silver hairs around 41. As near as I can tell, eyebrows don''t really go grey? I''m 55 now and mine haven''t yet. My natural color is sort of a mousy brown so when I started going silver/white I just went blond. No root line now that it''s probably almost all silver by now.

You are working on getting thinner! Remember?!?

My grandma lost (I think) 6 inches. Crazy! My mom was freaked about her eyes but I guess pigment fades everywhere.

I started going grey at 18, just like my mom. At 32 I have, oddly enough, about the same amount of grey that I did at 18 or 19, just a smidge more. My bangs have a noticeable threading of grey, and since my hair is naturally almost-black... well, I''ve dyed my hair black(er) since I was 17, and now I really need to! I think I might actually notice more grey than I think if I let my hair grow out more, but I dye it pretty quick as soon as I get roots.

It isn''t as grey as my mom''s was- she was about a third grey at 28, whereas I just have some noticeable grey hairs, not a significant percentage.

My dad didn''t go grey until he was 60, and has never lost any hair yet.

Haven''t noticed any grey eyebrows, but I''ve had a white eyelash since I was 12.

I turned 41 last week, and I have been having my hair colored since I was 23. I ignored it for a while, but I was teaching at the time and my students kept pointing out that I was getting witch hair. I started out going every 6 weeks, and now I go every 4 weeks. I'd go every 3 if I thought my hair wouldn't fall out. I've never colored my eyebrows, and they're still plenty dark. My hubby's hair is nearly all gray at age 40. Even with all they gray, he looks so young in the face. Not a wrinkle, not a line...which isn't fair because he has never applied a single drop of moisturizer in his entire life. I have slathered it on since I was a teenager, but the lines are starting to come - and I don't like them!!!!!

My mum started getting a sexy little Lauren Hutton gap between her teeth, around the age of 55! I''m hoping it happens to me! As for the greys - bleh - I started noticing them around age 28... now I really need to colour to feel comfortable...

I will be 50 in April and Honest to Goodness I have NO gray anywhere. I don''t color my hair and my eyebrows are the same color. It helps to be strawberry blonde! At least my hair genes are good. Too bad the rest are all bad.

These are the things no one ever talks about!! Don''t fret the grey eyebrow hairs, fret the grey there hairs! If it makes you feel any better, there hair AND eyebrows tend to thin out, so less waxing....

Just don''t get me started on the changes that will be happening to your skin in the next 2-3 years!!!!

AprilBaby: You are so lucky! I am medium brown and the grays stick out like a sore thumb! I bet the rest of you is just as great as the hair!

I don''t know about "there", but I do know that my legs aren''t as hairy as they once were. That''s a blessing!

BTW, I don''t know what it is, but my skin is great at 52...no wrinkles. Must be all that fish I eat and the sunscreen I slather on everyday.
