Happy Birthday, Maisie. I am old enough to be your mother and still to have been legally married. That is very depressing :-).

My new setting is my birthday pressie. I also received some vouchers for my hair done and my hubby bought me a gorgeous Indian meal. I feel very fat but in a good way!!!

My mum got me a diamond shaped paperweight... she said she saw it and thought of me!

Happy Birthday Maisie!!

I''ve been meaning to ask, how''s James and your other little ones?

Hi Stephanie... Thank you for asking after my family. James is in nursery part time and is enjoying it. He has been going for about 8 months but he still cries when I leave him. He still isn't using the toilet, will not come out of nappies at all. Still no proper speech but he is using certain sounds for the same thing each time he wants it. I think this is positive progress. We know what he means but others outside the family don't.

He brings us such joy! He has the most amazing sense of fun and laughs a lot! The doctor is unwilling to diagnose Aspergers just yet and I am glad about it. I don't want a label dropped on him at such a young age. He has been given some funding from the local authority for a helper to assist him in nursery so he will have one to one attention. This is a huge blessing as we were told from the start it would be unlikely that he would get any help at such a young age.

The rest of the kids are doing well. My eldest son has seen the error of his ways where alcohol is concerned and hasn't been drunk since his birthday week. He starts his final exams soon and has been offered a place in University (as long as he gets the grades they require!)

Here is a gorgeous shot of James when we took him to the beach

Oh Maisie, he is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

What a gorgeous little boy! If it''s not too personal, I have a couple of questions (please feel free to not answer if you don''t want to get into it.) How old is he currently? Did the topic of Asperger''s come up because he speech is somewhat delayed for his age? (I''m getting my master''s degree in special needs so this is sort of my area, plus my nephew has been diagnosed with autism since he was 3 so I have some personal experience with it too.)

Not knowing any of the specifics, I just have to say that I think it''s great that there''s been money to have a one-on-one to help out in the nursery. I always hate it when kids don''t have what they need because of money issues!

I don't mind at all Gwendolyn.

James doesn't speak properly. He was one of twins and his sister was stillborn. When I was pregnant the ventricles in his brain were enlarged and we were warned he might be Downs Syndrome or have some type of learning difficulties. He isn't Downs.

He was a silent child. He would cry sometimes but not often. He didn't babble or make speech sounds although he seemed to be interacting with us.

When he was around 18 months I told my health visitor that I was worried about his lack of speech, and also his behaviours.... obsessive positioning of toys in lines and lying on the floor to listen to the sound of his toys moving. He also loves to stimulate his periforal (SP?) vision by always looking at things out of the sides of his eyes.

We were all tested for Fragile X Syndrome last year. I am a carrier with a low repeat (70) and James too with a similar repeat. We are both classed as pre-mutation and therefore it was decided that carrying Frag X wasn't the reason for his difficulties.

He doesn't like loud music or singing. He is scared of new surroundings. He will make eye contact with me, his daddy and his siblings but nobody else.

He is a whizz on the computer. He can use the mouse and switch from page to page till he finds what he is looking for. He is 3 1/2

He does make sounds now and some of them are things that we recognise as words. He uses words for everyday things but they aren't the proper ones.

He can say mum, dad (although he says dadum) Tom (his big brother), Sa is Sam - again his brother... his sister is called Ashleigh but he says La La and he calls his other sister Nah Nah (lucia).

The doctor says he believes James is on the Autism spectrum somewhere but he isn't rushing to make a firm diagnosis yet. He feels that he has a 'Social and Communication Disorder'.

We can't leave James with anyone but his brothers and sisters as he won't tolerate anyone else close to him. He lets us hug him and tickle him etc and he sometimes enjoys it - but only on his terms. When he has had enough he shouts or screams at us.

If he falls over or hurts himself he lets us hug him and it calms him down.

He has started trying to sing a bit - but we aren't allowed to join in.

He slaps himself in the face when he is frustrated......

I can't think of anything else lol... feel free to ask specifics!
