Happy Chinese New Year!!

The best thing about having a Chinese husband is getting lucky money.

We're going to start giving our nieces and nephews lucky money this year. It should be fun. Since they are still very young, a little goes a long way.

Gong Hay Fat Choy everyone. I'm not Chinese but my fiance is. Since we're not married, we still get the Lacee (is that how you spell it?). Next year, we'll be the ones giving it out

You are correct aneelcon! My parents sent me a laicee / hung bao this year but after May, we will be the ones sending em out! When is your wedding?

this is my 2nd cny after marriage and i still recieved ang baos from my close relatives eg. mum, dad, grandma, etc.

traditionally, there is a custom for the married couple to continue receiving ang baos during the 1st cny after marriage. with close relatives, like parents and grandparents, a couple can still receive even afer many years but then the couple has to give ang baos to the elders too

No lucky money for me, but I am glad it's here anyway. Our favorite Chinese restaurant has been closed for nearly a month now in celebration of the New Year. They have GREAT food that is hardly "Americanized" and they are really nice people. They will reopen next week! WoooHooo!!!

I can almost taste the Orange Chicken now!

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

The lacee tradition sounds interesting. Sounds like as single people you can receive the gift, but once you're married the tradition is to give it instead? Wow, that's cool. I especially love the idea of starting to give it to the littles. How special.

Hey I received one from my fellow teachers the other day. My son is in her class and I volunteer in there sometimes, so she thought of me, I was touched. It wasn't money, but a real special book mark that she made and colored, and put it in the nice red laicee. I was honored. She gave each of her students one also with a lucky penny inside. They were thrilled.
