I''m going to a gem show tonight for the first time - are there things there to buy as a consumer? Is their jewelry? What is it like?

Thanks :)

i just went to a gem and jewlery fair last weekend. i too, had never been so didnt know what to expect. people told me that i could probably get through the whole thing in about an hour. so i had just an hour and half of browsing..but man! when i got there, my mouth hit the floor. it was just packed with vendors selling everything from jewelry making supplies, to gems of every color of the rainbow, to mountings and settings, to diamonds.. to junk. now, im a jewelry nut.. and this was like a candy store to me. i didnt even get close to looking at everything in the small amount of time i had. i wouldnt buy diamonds there.. being such a PS snob, but it sure was fun to look! if your in the market for settings, or having a gem RHR made, this maybe the spot. many of the vendors bring their jeweler so they can make your ring while you shop.
im not sure if this is the same kind of show you are speaking of, but if it is, check it out for sure.

I went to a gem show last summer and unfortunetly it was very disappointing

Many of the gems were synthetic. . .I'm not sure what the deal was!

There were many pretty stones that were real, as well, but the ones that particularily caught my attention had unique shapes like kite cuts and would be difficult to set into my style of jewelery so I went home empty handed.

My husband was sooooo relieved.

I went to one here in San francisco and it wasn''t as great as I thought it was going to be. A lot of the stuff was synthetic or cheap looking. But there were some cool vendors to talk with about stones and stuff. I think the really big ones are probably the best ones. I would like to attend one of the big ones someday.

I''ve been to two years ago and was very pleasantly suprised. They had beautiful jewelry and many of it was reasonably priced. I picked up a lovely tanzanite ring . They don''t come through here anymore and I miss it. Sounds like with everything there are some good and some not so good, have fun and enjoy all the eye candy!!!
