Healthy Living Thread

Here is my Snoopy Coach bag and my emeralds. The ring was the first piece of real jewelry I bought after graduating from college. It had a diamond accent with it but I had the 1/2 carat diamond added there a few years ago for more bling on the ring. The marquis pendant was from Marty for our first Christmas together after we were married. The earrings are the ones I got for Christmas this year.

Welp........I've gone and done it again and disappeared for too long. I meant to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, then Christmas, but I'm here to hope both were great and definitely wish all a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

I guess life just got in the way and I had to curb some forum time. I got pretty sick again and had to be elevated to a different specialist. Almost wound up in the hospital (all plumbing related) and it was just depressing. I had to keep working though it all. Turns out the tests finally lead to a new medication that actually purifies things in-house so to speak and now 2 months later, I've not had one bout of infection. Drugs can be good, yes they can.

So what's new with us? I think one of the last posts was us getting two new Mercedes. Thought we were done, right? Nope. I had encouraged Charlie to get the E400 like I did, but he decided to get the smaller engine version E300 and I truly hated it. When we got our cars, I had actually ordered a 2019 with the exact options I wanted. I wound convincing Charlie to let me trade the E300 in and get the E450 I had originally ordered and he took the E400 I was driving. It was the absolute best decision we could have made. The E400 he drives is infinitely better and I got exactly, precisely, the car I wanted.

Here are a couple pics:

E450-2.jpg E450-8.jpg

That was in November. Thanksgiving came and we had a nice one with my brother and SIL. Nothing too exciting.

Then December came and we decided to make it an Apple Christmas. Marty would have liked this. We both got the new Apple Watch Series 4 and the new iPad Pro 11 for Christmas. I also got the new iPhone Xs Max! Then I decided I wanted some watch bands and went a little nutzoid and now we both have like 11 bands. One I really wanted was the Apple Stainless Steel link bracelet, but at $450, I wasn't going to get that. I found a company out in California who sells a 100% replica version in the same Stainless Steel, with the same quick release buttons to resize it, so I ordered one. It got lost. So, the company sent a second one. Then they both showed up and for the all the difficulty getting the first one, they let me keep them both, so Charlie got one too. Here's a cool Croco Deployant band I got and one with the Link Bracelet:

Untold 1.jpg

Charlie's been asking me to do something about my horrible snoring. So my doctor ordered an in home sleep test for two nights. I simply was not going to go to a sleep clinic and be monitored there, so this was a great way to get tested. Turns out I have beyond severe sleep Apnea, so I just got a CPAP machine a couple days ago. I'm having some trouble adjusting to sleeping with a mask on my face and the kitties think I'm a space alien and won't come anywhere near me, but I'm sleeping so deeply now and it's app controlled so I can monitor whether I stop breathing at night via the app. Charlie's happy.

Sir Charlie misses the cold and snow (Marcy of DeeJay we should just come to WY or Chicago for a visit), but the last gift of the season was I booked us to go to Ogunquit Maine in February. He'll get cold and snow. I can eat lobster till I bust, so we can both be happy. We went to the Nordstrom Semi-Annual Men's sale yesterday and bought Andrew Mark heavy duty duck down filled coats with hoods, gloves, hats and then we found some nice warm boots at Clarks on sales, so we're basically all set for a winter visit.

Hey Marcy, Marty would get a kick out of this. I've always been diligent about reviewing things I buy and a few months ago, I got an invitation from Best Buy to become what they call a Tech Insider. It's by invitation only. I figured it would involve low level things, but nooooooo, I get the opportunity to get some amazingly fantastic things for free. All I have to do is provide an unbiased review and anything I get is mine to keep. I've gotten a Delonghi/Nespresso Cappucino machine, a $2K HP 4K Ultra SSD Laptop, a 55" 4K Ultra HDR TV just to name a few. The list is actually too long to name. Just about daily, they send an email offering new options and you just choose something if you want or don't if you don't. I do have to pay tax on what I've gotten, but that's not much to pay for thousands of $$'s for cool new things!

So I'll end this with a picture of the Kitties sending holiday wishes and with heartfelt hope that 2019 is a great year for us all!

Ps: Thanks for the holiday cards. I'm not so great at sending them out but did send you one today! Better late than never, right??!!

Glad we are staying in tonight

3 degrees? YIKES to the max. It is as I type, 77 degrees in Tampa!

Stay warm!

Hi Kids! Happy New Year's Eve.

Rod, I am sorry to hear you had more health issues but it sounds like your new meds are working great for you. I hope it stays that way.
Beautiful car! Enjoy.
Your Apple Christmas sounds great. We kind of did that in the fall.
Your new watch and bands look great.
You and Charlie will both sleep better now that you are using a CPAP machine at night. I should get myself checked too; I snore bad and always sleep on my back because of my knees.
i must say I am surprised you are venturing north to the cold and snow. Hopefully the weather won't be awful when you are there. A while ago we were -2 and wind chill of -22. 77 degrees in Tampa? Like I tell my in-laws in Arizona; bragging isn't pretty. :D
That is awesome about your deal with Best Buy. You can't complain about that or about the free stuff you get to review. Sweet.
The kitties are cute as usual. Do they bother the tree? I love your island and I am pretty sure we have the same granite counter tops.
You are welcome for the holiday card.

We had blowing snow, ground blizzards and darned cold weather on my trip home from work today. There were some icy spots for sure. We are having an incredibly low key NYE. Marty is redesigning his strength training website and I am working on a presentation for the astronomy club.

Have a great New Years! I hope 2019 is a great year for all of us.
Curby / Marcy

Happy New Year Marcy,

It'll be 2019 in 30 minutes. Our next door neighbor came over and we had waaaaay too much food including jumbo shrimp, pizza, hot wings, pate, veggies and dip, chips, lot's of wine and for dessert a choice of Peach, Cherry or Blueberry pie. Then our other neighbors had us over for some fireworks (even though they're illegal in Florida) and now it's just the two of us. We were trying to watch the NBC celebration on TV, but it was just awful, so we're watching a Xmas movie on Hallmark to end the holiday season.

I've been off since December 21st and have loved every minute of being off. I'm not really looking forward to going back to work on Wednesday.

Yep, we're heading to the north. Charlie grumbles every day about missing snow, so I figured a good dose of cold and hopefully snow would be good for him as long as I can eat my body weight in lobster! It will be nice for a change. Most of our trips of beach types of vacations, so this will be something completely different.

The kitties are adorable. And no, they don't really bother the tree. Eri managed to bat one ornament off from a lower branch, but really they don't touch it. they do like to lay underneath it though and I tell them they're the best presents Santa ever brought us.

Xmas 2018 3.jpg

Say hey to Marty and I hope the new website brings him lot's of new customers.

Hi Kids! Happy New Year.

Rod, Marty thinks your deal with Best Buy is a cool deal. Enjoy! I showed him your watch and car picture too; he liked them.
It sounds like you and Charlie had a great New Year's Eve. I heard fireworks going off around here last night but unlike July I wasn't worried it would start a fire. The prairie is frozen here not crunchy and brittle.
Funny you mentioned the NBC celebration on TV last night; I saw a headline earlier saying viewers called it a "train wreck'. We generally don't watch those shows because Marty gets bored with all the chit chat on them. Sounds like I didn't miss a thing.
Marty has been on vacation as long as you and I doubt he is excited to go back tomorrow either.
Hopefully Charlie will get his fill of snow and you'll get your fill and then some of lobster. I can send Charlie a bag of snow but I can't promise it won't arrive in it's current frozen form. I used to pack my BIL's lunch and stick a bag of ice cubes in it along with single sided razor blades in his candy bar. Sure freaked out his co-workers and no one wanted a bit of his chocolate bar.
Your kitties are the best Christmas gift ever.

We stayed up to see in the New Year but not for long. I got my January program ready plus 2 pages of handouts. I also posted the January newsletter. I have been productive.

Marty is cooking a tenderloin roast for us. I can hardly wait. I'll enjoying a glass of Chardonnay and Marty is sipping on some whiskey.
Take care.
Curby / Marcy

Marcy, thanks for the offer of a bag of snow, but think like you, it won't arrive as snow. We've got loads of water down here! LOL

Single sided razor blade IN his chocolate bar? Oh My

I should look up what people thought of the show last night. The few minutes we saw was just awful. Sorry, but Chrissy Tiegen, was simply beyond goofy as was just about everything we saw. We tuned in just to see the ball drop, then we toasted the new year with a nice glass of Merlot and went to bed.

Your dinner sounds yummy! For New Years we have Corned Beef, Cabbage and Mashed Potatoes. The Corned Beef is just about finished cooking and then the cabbage gets cooked in the left over juice from the roast.

Charlie is working on putting Xmas away, but he puts up so much each year it's a multi-day project going up and coming down.

I should be, but I'm dreading going to work tomorrow. I'm sure it will be fine, I'm just not looking forward to starting a new year all over again.

Hope you have a wonderful dinner and Happy New Year!

Rod

Hi Kids! Happy Monday.

Rod, you certainly do have a lot of water down there. My BIL and I do like to mess with each other. In the old, old days when we had Thanksgiving at my parents house he would take leftovers for lunch the next day so I'd offer to pack it for him. I'd take a bite out of things. And for Christmas I'd always buy him a big chocolate bar but stick single sided razor blades in them. I did make them obvious. He'd use the razor blades to slice off a piece of chocolate. When I had one of my knee surgeries he bought me flowers about a week before the surgery and then had my sister bring me dead flowers. You know; silly stuff like that.

I heard that Chrissy talked about vaginal steaming; nice topic for a family show. I also heard they missed the ball falling or something like that. Glad I didn't tune in.

We both ate well yesterday. I forgot to mention I made homemade biscuits for breakfast yesterday too. Today was tough going back to cold, dry cereal at work.

Did Charlie get all of the decorations down? I need to start working on packing up stuff out of the den. Ugh.

Did you survive going back to work today? It was tough for me. I told my friend I can't work under these conditions after getting 3 paper cuts. About 2:30 I was ready to go home but the clock didn't agree. We got in the 30's here today but all that did was melt the snow and then glaze it over making a nice sheet of ice. It's like winter or something here.

Marty is at the gym right now and I am warming up 2 pieces of leftover pizza I had in the freezer for supper. At least tomorrow is Thursday already.

Take care.
Curby / Marcy

Marcy I did make it through the day, but can't say it was fun getting back into things. Even my boss told me he dreaded coming in this morning.

Have to say the things you and BIL did are amusing. Still can't quite get over a razor blade in the chocolate bar, but sounds like it was easily seen and even useful.

Can't say I'd be surprised to hear Chrissy said something so stupid. The few minutes we saw were truly awful. And yes, the ball didn't drop. they had sparklers for each second. Maybe it had to do with the heavy rain they were having at Times Square?

We had leftover Corned Beef, cabbage and mashed potatoes for dinner. Even better the second day!

The SoClean machine, the one you see advertised every 4 minutes on TV arrived today. They have to send adapters for each type of machine and TBH, the instructions were gibberish as far as I was concerned. I wound up having to call them and have them tell me how to get it all connected correctly. The lady was so patient and helpful. And now all I have to do is get up in the morning, put the mask connected to the tube in the machine and do nothing. It will clean automatically and it supposedly eliminates all bacteria. One issue with these machines is people get bacterial infections because they don't clean everything well.

At least tomorrow is Thursday. A short week is greatly appreciated. We'll celebrate my birthday this weekend and I suspect Charlie's getting me a lobster as he knows it's a big treat for me.

Have a good Thursday.

Rod, I am glad you made it through the day. I think it was rough for most everyone going back to work today.
My BIL and have played jokes on each other for years; they've calmed down recently. I would never do something like the razor blades unless it was very obvious what it was. One of the best gags he played on us was the year he started plants for us to put in our flower buckets. They all came clearly labeled and then there was one pot that had a huge green plant in it. We figured it was some leafy plant and put it right in the middle of the flower bucket. It turned out to be a stink weed.
Nice that you had good leftovers today. I cut up a piece of the tenderloin and put it in leftover rice for lunch. It tasted great.
I am so glad you bought one of those SoClean machines. It sounds like they do a good job cleaning your mask.
Happy Birthday! Sounds like you'll have a good dinner for your birthday. Sweet.

Marcy

Thanks Marcy,

I get to go to Tommy Bahama and pick out something nice for our upcoming trip. We have $200 Tommy Bahama cards they gave us from our Christmas shopping. Then lobster for dinner and it just doesn't get better!

Rod, have fun shopping at Tommy Bahamas. That’s one of Marty’s favorite places for shirts. No it doesn’t get better than shopping and a fabulous dinner.

Happy 2019 kids!

Lots to catch up on!

Curby, love the bag! Sounds like you and Marty have been busy enjoying the last of the holidays. It's always kind of a relief when it's all over though, isn't it?!

Rod, HELLO!!! Merry new year to you and Charlie!!! Sorry to hear about your health woes, but glad you're on the right track now. Also glad the car situation has worked out. I know how much you love your cars! And speaking of love, Apple loves you guys! An apple xmas indeed! As for snow... um... I can't imagine why Charlie wants any of it, but enjoy!

So it's been a busy few days! #2 and I went from Connecticut to NJ on NYE and then had dinner in NY with some friends. Those friends have a 13 year old who was out with us so we didn't have to do the all night thing I was afraid my friend would want. Was very happy about that! I ended up coming home a day early (so the 1st instead of yesterday) because I felt like I'd been gone a long time by then. That meant I got to spend an extra afternoon/night at home. Of course I did nothing, but I was still happy to be there! I did stop on my way from TR's and look at the one bedroom unit that I've been eyeing on-line. It needs more work than I had originally thought (kitchen and bath need updating, hardwood floors are tired, and the grout in the entryway/kitchen tile is new... but they did dark grey... and the tile is tan... ??? so that has to be redone). Anyway, it's all doable, but the question is how much $ I want to spend. Also, a real question about if the unit is too small. I mean, it's not REALLY too small--it is a one bedroom unit, after all--but would it feel too small for me, especially over time. Anyway, all questions I need to get my head around. Today there aren't many people in my office so I'm likely going to bail early and go to the gym. I'm sure it will be a mob scene, being January and all, but if I go early enough it should be OK. Also going to CVS to see if they have any wrapping paper left at a good price. Out of control with excitement here in 2019, as you can see!

Hi Kids!

Dee Jay, it is kind of nice to be done with the holidays. I miss Christmas cookies though. :D
It sounds like you finished out your trip back east with some fun activities. I forget how close Connecticut, NJ and NY are to each other. Wherre did you go for dinner (like I'd know NY restaurants). I wouldn't want to stay up all night anymore either. I used to do it for partying or star gazing but I'm usually out by 11 now. I bet it was nice to get home and good luck with your decision on the 1 bedroom place you've been eyeing online. Decisions, decisions.

Not much new going on here. Our snow is mostly melted and temps look good through early next week. I need to get my Macan in for it's 20,000 maintenance. Let's hope it doesn't cost that much.
Tomorrow is Friday. :appl:

Laters,
Curby / Marcy

Happy Friday kids!

Curby, I don't even know the name of the restaurant we went to to NYE -- how sad is that?! Our friends picked it and I just went along with the plan. They are foodies so I figured it would be good, and it was!

Yesterday I putzed around in my office until about 2 and then I gave in the fact that virtually no one was there so I bailed. At least I went to the gym! That's the first time I've been there since the knee busting hiking trip in October. It was good to be back, and I'm a little sore today, but not as much as I thought I might be. When I got home I continued in putzing mode, in constant motion but not really getting anything of substance DONE. Some friends of mine who have two kids stopped by and I gave them their xmas gifts, so that was fun -- but exhausting! They weren't here an hour, but when they left I was like... WHEW!

Today I'm going to pack up and head to TR's. I have to stop at a mall on the way because I have stuff to take back at a bunch of stores and if I just bite the bullet and mall it I can get most of it done at one time. The trick will be getting out of there without spending more than I'm returning! I also have to go to Costco, and that's always a wallet buster. I don't know what happens to me in that store...

Still no decision on the one bedroom place. Thinking... thinking... But if I do get it I've already completely pre-decorated!

Hi Kids!

Dee Jay, i would imagine most restaurants in NYC have very good food or they woulnd't survive long.
Good deal your trip to the gym wasn't as painful as anticipated. Nice you got to hand out some more Christmas gifts. Kids wear me out too since I am not around them much anymore.
Good luck returning things without buying more. You can do it!
Too funny you have the one bedroom place already decorated even if you are still debating on whether to purchase it.

I was glad to see 5 pm roll around today.
I ran out about 10:30 to pay off the balance on our flooring. They weren't going to deliver the hardwood floor boxes unless we paid them the balance. They will start the installation on Monday. Marty gets to clean out the den on Sunday. Fun for him.
We have 15 boxes of flooring in the living room now.

Have a fabulous weekend.
Curby / Marcy

Happy Saturday Kids!

I just spent an hour and 45 minutes cleaning out the desk and bookcase in the den. I threw out a trash bag (white kitchen size) full of mostly papers. I left the books for Marty to haul off somewhere and filled 2 laundry baskets of stuff for him to move. He still has to go through his CD's, DVD's and cords. Then he'll get the fun of taking apart the TV and computer plus moving everything out of there. Just think in over a week all this work will be over. Until our furniture arrives anyway. I found some assorted Peanuts and Snoopy notebooks that I saved for later; I may as well take them to work and enjoy using them. It's not like I'm going to start a journal or anything. Heck, if I want to see what I did 2 years ago; I'll just come here and click through old pages of this thread.

Marty is napping but I plan on waking him up shortly so we can head out for lunch. We also have to pick up more furniture sliders for hardwood floors. My assorted pack only has 4 for hardwood floors. Phooey.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Happy Birthday, Rod!!! Is your birthday today?
Curby / Marcy

Happy Saturday kids!

Curby, LOL on checking back on this thread to see what you did. I have actually done that on more than one occasion when I was trying to figure out when something happened! I feel like it's six years of you and me (and a few of our other friends) chatting with each other on a (pretty much) daily basis. If any of us happen to do anything healthy (as in... like the title of the thread implies...!) well, all the better!

So I have been on a wild shopping tear these past two days! I returned some things at a few stores, and was doing pretty good... until I got to Marshalls and bought a long boiled wool Tahari jacket... and then I went in Bloomingdales looking for a shearling coat (which I've been looking for for, oh, about ten years now). I ended up with a faux fur coat that looks almost exactly like one of my mink coats, none of which have been out of storage years... Then today I went to an outlet mall, getting lost both on the way there and on the way back, despite the use of GPS in both directions, but that's another matter entirely! At the outlet mall I bought three cashmere sweaters at Saks (same sweater, different colors, 65% off regular price), another Tahari coat (this one heavier and good for work), TWO grey down coats (one of which is going back), another faux fur jacket that I also ordered in a different size from another store because I'm not sure the one I got will be a good choice if I actually put anything on under it (!), and a reversible rabbit fur coat I bought in lieu of the shearling I'm apparently never ever going to find. That's a LOT of outerwear!!! But everything was on MEGA sale so I don't feel (too) bad.

Then I bolted back to TR's town to get my hair cut. I'm trying to grow my bob out and it's been months (literally) since I had a haircut. I was so glad to get it done! After that we took the boys out shopping at some video game store and to dinner at a new place. The food was pretty good but the acoustics in there there were terrible -- TR couldn't hear much of anything. And now we're home doing laundry and other exciting Saturday night stuff.

Nothing on the docket for tomorrow... Not even any shopping! :cheeky:

Can't wait to see how the floors turn out!

Hi Kids!

Dee Jay, LOL; this is definitely a history and timeline we can review. It comes in handy!
You certainly did go on a shopping spree and it sounds like you will be fashionably warm no matter what the weather. Sweet.
Glad you got your hair cut; I need to get a trim and have someone with skill cut my bangs. I trimmed them myself a while back and they are definitely not straight.
I hope you relaxed today.

Not much going on with me today. We went grocery shopping first thing. I made spaghetti and meatballs for lunch and had a halo and a few crackers for supper.
Marty got the furniture out of the den except the recliner. It's on it's side but I don't know where he is moving it. I am anxious to see how much they get done tomorrow.

Take care.
Curby

Happy Monday kids!

Curby, I trim my bangs all the time, LOL. I'm actually pretty good at it -- fortunately! Speaking of bangs... one of the first things the new girl and I talked about was how I have too much bangs right now so some of them toward the back of my head need to grow out... and somehow I left there with even MORE bangs than I went in with... ?!? Oh well, it's only hair, right?

Yesterday was a day full of not much. The kids went to the mother's in the morning. TR and I cleaned the master bathroom and the bedroom and he brought a dresser up from the basement and rearranged the closet so more of my stuff fits in there. Then we went out to lunch and drove around a bit, with the day's excitement culminating with watching the Bears lose (UGH) and sloppy Joe's for dinner. It's a thrill a minute around here!

There was rain in the forecast and I woke up about 3:45 hearing it on the skylight. Since rain can really jack up traffic I headed out pretty early (I was in the car by 5:10), and of course the drive in was amazingly light. I was home and in the shower about an hour earlier than some mornings. Not complaining though; I'd rather be early than late! I may or may not head north tonight after work. If I don't I should really motivate myself to go to the gym!

OK, off to get some real work done. It is kinda the first real day of 2019 from a work perspective since almost no one was here last week, and I was only in on Thursday.

Hi Kids!

Dee Jay, I might give my bangs another try; I can only get better at it, right? Oh no that you left with more bangs than you started with; I kind of think mine are too deep in to my hair too. You are right, it is only hair.
Your Sunday sounds about as thrilling as ours. Nice you have more places for your stuff at TR's now.
Good deal you got back to town early rather than dealing with bad roads or bad weather. I am never motivated to get up much earlier than normal but I like the extra time to relax or getting to work way early.

We are having good old hurricane force winds today. It's really whipping around out there.
The guys who were supposed to start on our floors today at 9; showed up at 3:15 and were here until after 6. Sigh. Not off to a good start. They got everything torn up and put the trim in the garage. They said they'd return at 9 am tomorrow. We will see on that.
Work was busy and my boss is already raising the bar for the year. I did manage to get out he's grumpy, no he doesn't hold people's hand and while yes we should ask for more from my employees you can only get so much blood out of a turnip. He did admit he would absolutely hate it if I left. I'll remember that if I get a bad review and don't get a raise.

Here is this morning's sunrise. Now that is a reason to get up a few minutes early.
Curby

Happy Tuesday kids!

Curby, did the flooring guys show up as scheduled today? Gorgeous sunrise!

Last night I headed back to TR's after work. This morning I slept a little later than yesterday but the traffic was still good. I'm afraid that I'm getting lulled into a false sense of traffic happiness, but TR thinks a certain piece of major construction got done around Thanksgiving and that's why my morning commute is better. That could be... but I'll believe it when it keeps happening for a long time!

Today I've got to get our annual and quarterly certifications ready to set up and hand out to employees on Thursday. Oh joy...

Arg. The new flooring has assorted colors so not lacing in well. The rest of our hardwood is in the background.
upload_2019-1-8_13-34-53.jpeg

Oh no! What can they do about that?!

upload_2019-1-8_17-47-37.png
upload_2019-1-8_17-48-36.png

What we worked out is Marty brought up the 1 + box we had left from when we built the house 6 years ago and they are blending it in with the boards in the hallway. They also are removing any of the light orangish boards. You can see it is kind of lighter in the hall but not as noticeable as before. Since the den has a transition and is running the opposite direction they are just using the assorted colors that comes with the box. The boards are same brand and color. The guy at the carpet store was rather indifferent and kind of like well what do you expect. Um if it was an issue why didn't he suggest we bring a box home first and look at it with our floor? Grr. He hires independent contractors. He should have the installers come look at the place rather than sending some store guy out to measure. He had our current floors listed as vinyl. Huh?

Hi Kids!

Dee Jay, I am glad the trip in from TR's is easier than expected. Traffic happiness is important.
How did handing out the certificates go with employees?
Thanks for the compliment about the sunrise. It certainly gets me out of bed in the morning to see if it's a pretty one. Easy entertainment.

I had a busy day at work but had to come home early.
Marty paged me home about 3 to cuss and discuss what to do with the flooring. This is how we discussed it:
upload_2019-1-8_17-56-9.png

Take care.
Curby

Happy Wednesday kids!

Curby, I like the floor idea and I think it will look just fine when they're done. LOL on the discussion process!

Yesterday I made it to the gym after work -- woo hoo! That's the good news... The bad news is I had time to do that because TR didn't come down since his water heater gave out. Fortunately he found the issue when there was not too much water on the floor in the basement, but it could have been a much bigger problem. Poor guy! He did get a new one and he and a neighbor installed it last night, with one quick trip to the store this morning for another coupling. Tragedy averted!

Today I am working working working. Then I've got BBBS, and after that I have to run by a client's house and pick up keys for a new listing. It's a busy day!
