I’m looking at a 4.2ct pad colour sapphire which I’m very tempted by. I never buy heated sapphires but I just love the colour and clarity of this stone.

I’ve bought many times from the vendor so that’s not a concern. I’m just on the fence because of the heat treatment. $6,000 a lot of money to lay out on a stone without that additional rarity value - but it’s still a reasonable price for a heated pad of over 4 carats.

Looking for your thoughts. 1C4CD72F-31A8-4E24-AC34-65564E01BC8F.jpeg4B3F2E51-56D3-4006-85D0-4F4D74AD8CC2.jpeg459DD727-1323-454F-950A-3DE691B47DF3.jpeg

Color is lovely, and quite clean looking.

Cut is not ideal...as it’s fairly windowed down the middle and loses color there. Are you find with that?

Does it have a good lab report? An issue with pads is that some of them are béryllium treated which can only be tested by certain labs.

I only see color at the tips. Much too unevenly distributed for my liking, even though the 15%-20% of the face-up view with the saturated color looks exquisite.

Almost all pads have cutting issues because they are cut for weight not light return. Wouldn’t call that a window / fish eye, just not optimal. I actually rather like the colour zoning. It’s also remarkably brilliant for a sapphire.

I just wonder what else I could get for $6,000 which might appeal to a broader audience with more classic tastes.

I’m 100% sure it’s not otherwise treated. I trust this vendor and every lab report I’ve got from him has been corroborated when tested here.

The color complexion is exquisite, yes, but I agree, it doesn't worth $6,000.

I guess you guys are right. Bought this little 1.3ct unheated one instead for $600 to make myself feel better.

Shame about the cutting, even with the colour zoning I really liked that stone.

I know you’re right. There was just something about that stone that spoke to me.

But the one I bought is better value for money in the end.

I can not deny I love my carats!

But I’m trying to wean myself onto smaller better quality over giant wow factor. But then I keep clustering them together!!

this one is a beauty too. but its not a soft classic pad hue like the one you got. i think with the right skintone (overtone and undertone) this can be amazing

I don't want to spoil your happiness, the color of the stone on this picture may be not very accurate, look at the color of tweezers comparing to this picture below. Have you seen more pictures of this small pad? I like the color a lot and hope it is close to the picture IRL, but the color of the tweezers looks very strange and untrue.
Check this one out. Over 3ct. Unheated.

This is supposed to be the holy grail but oddly I really don’t like pads this saturated.

Good on you! When I first started buying gems I had a nasty habit of utterly FIXATING on one thing that I loved about the gem.......ignoring all the other factors that would ultimately make it a regrettable purchase. It's a good lesson!

@Musia you’re quite right to highlight that but in this case I’ve bought from this vendor many times, I’ve also got videos and photos in other light.

Also for my pad projects I usually use multiple small unheated stones and deliberately use stones of widely varying hues, partly to show the differences of what can be considered “pads” by different people. The only colours I avoid are brown modifiers and that very vibrant saturated colour above which doesn’t balance well.

Will post some comparison photos when I get the stone in hand.

Yes I do have a habit of doing that and have a fair few cheaper stones which I now look at and go “meh”. It’s all education!

Ok that 1 3 is my ideal color! Would you mind sharing the vendor? Trust is hard to determine in yelp reviews:)

Nice

It is lovely! And I bet the right setting would make it seem not so tiny, although it doesn't look small to me!

Looks like a nice wearable size to me too. What are you thinking about for the setting?

I am actually collecting for a multi colour sapphire bracelet and I wanted just one pad for it. I’ve got almost all the stones now. I just need a green and a teal - hard to find in unheated ceylons.

This is my inspiration for setting

Thud.

OMG that is amazing, what a fantastic idea and that box alone would make me happy!

I’ve been collecting for 9 months now. Some stones are only a few hundred dollars. Some quite a bit more. So varying quality. Size between 1 and 2.75ct mostly.

I wanted to showcase a variety of sapphire colours. But the greens are a challenge. I might even resort to snapping up one of the Natural Sapphire Co ones which are so overpriced - but I’m desperate to complete my set.

I’m trying to build up an usual collection of heirloom jewellery for my daughters. Because I’m totally spending the rest of their inheritance!
