FI and i are meeting with his priest tomorrow for our initial meeting and i wanted to bring him something. I would normally bring a batch of christmas cookies or something, but i am guessing that he might be burnt out on christmas cookies (and tins of popcorn....and fruitcakes....etc). So i am trying to come up with something that is a nice snack/treat, but that is a little healthier. Maybe something with fruit (fruit kabobs?) or something else that is still sweet, but not junk food. I can''t come up with anything!! any suggestions? I''m at a total loss!

How about a homemade trail mix - either the chex mix or the popcorn/nuts/M&M type mix?

What about some seasonal drink mixes...like wassall or spiced apple ciders, cocoas, teas can be herbal non decaf if you wanted to be safe. Individual packet things that are single serving and quick to refresh. Some biscotti or little tea scones from a local bakery. Displayed in a basket with maybe a mug or thermos.

In his office he may have access to hot water to make these. He could enjoy them long into the winter months. As the rest of the items would have a shelf life? I wonder if a call to his clerk could point you in the right direction?

You may also consider a small fragrant rosemary tree or Topiary from Lowes for example. For his desk top. Bringing in the greens has a wonderful meaning beyond Christmas and what we think normally think of. Laurel topiary would be cool.

I really cant think of a treat...realizing who the recipient is...silly huh? §

I saw your title and was sooo excited to recommend healthy dog treats....

Sorry!

Good luck tomorrow though!

If you go on the Food Network website, there''s a really yummy recipe for energy bars that comes from the "Healthy Eating with Ellie Krieger" show (I think that''s what it''s called, but if not it''s the one that''s close to that title). If you search for "energy bars" it should come up. It has all sorts of dried fruits, bran flour, etc. in it and it tastes SOOOO much better than store-bought energy bars. They can be individually wrapped and frozen, too. If you have a food processor, it takes about 1/2 hour to whip up a batch. I highly recommend them!

i made these homemade granola bar things a few months ago, i think i posted it in the wwt healthier recipes thread in FHH. if i recall correctly i got it off of cooking light. it basically was like granola cereal, flour, some brown sugar, coconut and some cocoa or something and you mix it all together, pour it into a baking dish and bake. then cut into squares. and the nutritionals were not that bad actually. and it had fiber and protein. anyway i''d do something like this. cooking light has some great ideas on their website with all the recipes. love that site.

otherwise maybe something like a big holiday coffee mug with a pound of specialty coffee? or similar mug with hot cocoa and some chocolate biscotti. biscotti is actually a not so bad for you treat.

What about some chocolate dipped fruit? Apple slices dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with nuts, dried apricots dipped in chocolate... just melt a bag of chocolate chips and dip them in it!

ladies thank you so much for your suggestions! i think i am going to go with an energy/granola bar type snack (one a little bit less expensive to make than the ones on the food network) thanks again!
