I posted several weeks ago about an heirloom ring offered to me and my BF by my BFs mom. Well, on a recent trip (this weekend) to visit family, my uncle unexpectedly presented me with my great grandmothers' diamond ring to use as an engagement ring. It was not her engagement ring but an anniversary ring. We think it was made in the early to mid 20s. It is abosolutely AMAZING!!! It was appraised about 10 years ago and from the appraisal I know the following stats: Center stone is a 1.26ct OEC L SI 1, with a total of 6 side stones (two rounds set vertically and a tapered almost football shaped baguette on each side) totalling .40ct, set in platinum.

Amazingly, the ring fits me perfectly! I brought it home and CANNOT wait to wear it. Well, wear it for real...I have certainly tried it on a few MILLION times!!
 
That sounds so beautiful :love: !!! I have my heart set on a local estate stone thats roughly 130 years old and a K/L colour, I find colour doesn't matter as much when you have such a beautiful old stone, I don't notice the colour ... the beauty is just to distracting!

What did your boyfriend think of the ring? And do you think you have a better timeline now that you found the ring? I hope you get to wear it for real soon, I just can't wait to see this classic beauty ... do you have pics now? :Up_to_something:

How exciting! Having an heirloom ring passed down to you that youlove! I wish we had an heirloom ring in our family. Are you using it as your Ering? Will you be resetting it or leaving it as it? :appl:

That's fantastic news, I hope you post pictures. I have to ask though, do you think MIL will be offended when she hears about this new and better heirloom ring? If I recall correctly, your reasoning for not wanting her ring was not because you didn't like it or couldn't afford a new ring, but was because you had your dream ring picked out and had your heart set on that. But now there's this new ring, which is coincidentally another heirloom...I'd be concerned with hurting her feelings or it looking like you were lying about the reasons behind passing on her ring.
 
The ring is beautiful. My FMIL knows about the new ring and was really really happy for me. She hasn't seen it yet but I will be showing it her tomorrow. My BF seemed pretty happy when i showed it to him on Monday. He was glad that I had a ring that makes me happy, and thrilled about saving some money ;-) I went and tried on rings/stones at GOG last week. Believe me the AVC is amazing in person. But when this heirloom was in my hands I couldn't stop thinking about it. It was worn to my grandmother, great aunt, great uncle, mom and cousins weddings. Crazy enough my grandmother sized it down to wear to my mom's wedding, and the only person it now fits is ME. Oh, and the center OEC stone is set in a squarish pronged setting so it looks like a cushion.
 
Well I'm happy to hear everyone is on board with the decision and now you can put your ring budget towards the wedding!
 
I love how some things really work out in a serendipitous way! This ring sounds perfect for you- it's the one! Please post some pics! So glad to hear the BF and FMIL are also happy about this. Congrats!
