Hello again, and no time no see, PSers! I used to be active here a couple of years ago and then I took a hard stop to curb my collecting of loose stones and to save up for setting/resetting the ones I had. It’s taken me a while, but I’ve finally finished almost all my projects.

I’ll be posting them gradually, but for now, this is my latest project which I collected yesterday. A 1.35 ct Burmese red spinel from Finewater Gems set in a a white gold halo. This spinel is not the ideal stoplight red but it is to me, a beautiful raspberry red without orange, pink or brown modifiers, just scarlet red which I love most. It’s not a perfect stone and has a couple of eye visible inclusions and surface nicks, which is why I took a while to decide whether to set it, but I’m glad I did because it feels like all the flaws have disappeared once set and now I can finally love it and have it proudly sit in my ring box as a treasure.

I’ll be back to show my other shinies!

It’s beautiful! The color is lovely and the setting really does it justice. Congratulations - can’t wait to see the rest!

I love the color!

What are the dimensions? It looks better than expected. Have you posted Gary's pictures somewhere?

Welcome back!

I’m terrible at keeping records but I think the dimensions are around 7 by 7.5, in that range. I don’t have Gary’s original photo but I remember the color is very much as photographed, especially in sunlight. And while the loose stone felt darker when it arrived, it has brightened after being set. Only proves that setting a stone can really do wonders for it.

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing more new rings!

I love raspberry reds and loved that stone when I saw it in Gary's site, thanks for sharing!

lovely with the super white diamonds!congrats!

Really beautiful the stone looks so glowy & bright!

That smouldering ember is gorgeous!
It is sometimes easier to overlook and ‘forget’ a stones little nicks and imperfections after they are set. Your ring is absolutely beautiful on you

Although I am completely befuddled by how this is raspberry red*, I love the scarlet red color and the simple, elegant setting that allows the color to really pop to its best effect. You've ring is absolutely beautiful!

*Raspberry makes me think of the fruit, which is always a softer or a more muted red, not an intense red.

Stunning! I love the stone set in this ring, and love the undergallery. Swoon!

Welcome back!
I can tell I have a problem because my brain just went *RED spinel!* and shorted for a second. I get so excited
I love the interior molten aspect it shows. Looks magic. Really beautiful red. I love how spinel comes in so many shades of red, red, red.
And you're right about the mount, it's perfect.

Thanks everyone! I’ve been wearing the ring nonstop since I got it and falling more in love with it each day!

Ah voce, I remember your red spinel rings, you really have some stoplight red ones! Reds are pretty hard to label (until today I do not know what pigeon’s blood should look like), but you’re right, to be more accurate, this spinel in indoor light reminds me not actually of fresh raspberries but of raspberry jam. This Is a photo of it taken on a gloomy overcast day.

Oh this is beautiful! The size & proportion of the halo stones are just perfect for your hand! Congrats & welcome back!

First of all, your spinel ring is gorgeous even on gloomy overcast days!

About the raspberry--Hahaha, I just realized the different color associations we have with the word could simply be a difference in our upbringing, and it amuses me. I'm a first-gen Asian American, and I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've had bread with any kind of jam, before age 18 and college. If I ever encountered a raspberry as a kid it would've been in fresh fruit form, not jam. Even today I would still say it's 25x more likely I have raspberry as fresh or frozen than as a jam, and if I eat it as a jam, it'd more likely be on a cookie or fruit tart than on bread. I tend to spread peanut butter or butter when I have bread, and never developed a sweet tooth for cookies or jam.

I agree with @TheGarnetGirl because the proportions of the halo stones are perfect for the spinel and for your hands. I can't wait to see what you'll be sharing with us next!

What a beautiful stone and setting.

I’m glad you set it because it looks amazing! The color in the first two pictures—the perfect red.
