Hi everyone, I’m new here and was hoping someone could help. I purchased a diamond that was graded as very good cut but GIA, and excellent by IGI. But it received an HCA score of 1.2 (using the GIA specs). Does that mean this diamond is worth keeping? Can you possibly have a very good cut that still has just as much fire and brilliance as an excellent cut?

40.2 pavilion is why gia vg.
For a ring gia is right its not a great combo due to obstruction of the mains.
HCA score is based on it being a good combo for a pendant or earring.

Looks like the pavilion angle is a bit too shallow.

Whether any given diamond is "worth keeping" is very subjective. A lot depends on the price and what you intend to do with it.

Because the GIA Excellent cut grade range is very broad, many buyers today won't even consider a diamond that doesn't make the Ex grade, and some want additional assurances (e.g. light performance images) to verify that a GIA Ex is not an outlier with some performance issues.

Can you provide the link?

Thank you all so much for your feedback! Does the larger crown angle help make up for the smaller pavilion angle? To me the diamond seems to reflect a lot of light in person. But I am still within the return window so I can return it if it’s not worth keeping.
