My grandfather gave this ring to my grandmother around 1950 (not sure of the exact year). Both have passed away, so the ring was passed down to me. I am trying to get more information on it so I can get an appraisal. The more info I have (ie maker), the less the cost of the appraisal (I want to get it insured).
The 4 diamonds are real. There are 8 rubies. I cannot read inside the band but in looking at it under a microscope, it looks to say 14 or 18 k. There are additional numbers/letters, but they cannot be made out. Thank you in advance for any help.

Knowing who the maker is will not change the cost of an appraisal. If you search the forum for appraisers, you be able to see a list of trusted appraisers in your area. An appraisal for insurance purposes is not inexpensive as the appraiser will write up a full report for you to submit to your insurance company. Where I live, a solid appraisal is about $140 for the first item and $60 got each additional item included on the same report. If the reports are separate, each is av additional $140.

Hi Ohiofan1974, do you know the story of how your Grandfather came to acquire the ring? The opal looks very similar to milky white opal typical of South Australia. I'd be interested to know the outcome of your appraisal. Good luck!
